And this my naive friend PhatBoy is why you don't make a poll about anything Richmond related.
Tiger bay nuffies responding by insulting GAJ.

Oh for ****s sake what a wank hahahahaha

I have never ever come across any other sport - even NBA where ‘because championships’ dominated comparison discussions - where there is such a high concentration of people who want to determine a player’s entire worth off what happens in grand finals.

Rugby league NEVER ever sees this come up. As long as you’ve proven you can play well when it counts, being best onfield in a GF is utterly irrelevant. Hell, the second best player I had seen prior to Thurston and Smith was Brad Fittler (behind Andrew Johns). In 31 origins and I think 5 grand finals, Fittler was never once named best on ground.

He did however regularly feature among the best 3-4 on the field in big games thus proving his home and away efforts weren’t a fluke or produced because of lack of pressure. That’s enough surely.

Prior to Martin’s second medal I never once heard anyone claim that Hodge or McLeod were the best in the business. Rated highly yes but not ‘well they have these two medals to show that they’re above and beyond.’

One of Dusty's medals was given out of infatuation, not because he was the best player on the day.

I'd say two of those medals were.

I’m gonna assume you mean the first one. I actually thought he earned that - Houli kept them in the game, Martin won it.

The second one could have been raffled to anyone

My biggest problem with it is that rating players solely on medals removes any system for rating a player who performs at a certain level but was outplayed by someone who played even better.

Johnson on 2011 was better than Johnson 2007 but he didn’t get a trophy for it

Perspective is a funny thing.

I thought Houli was far better for 90% of the game than Martin, but respect your pov.

Some arguable GOATs Ty Cobb and Ted Williams

At their positions Dick Effin Butkis and Dan Marino

Charles Barkley and Elgin Baylor (look him up)

what do they all have in common?

Brilliance in one series or one game does not mean greatness. It means great in that one game or one year. Greatness is sustained higher performances over a span of time.

IMHO

“I had sport on today but I am sad to say I often miss our games now. I just know what to expect and all I do is become outraged. Particularly when it is Geelong. I don’t even need to have watched the game to know exactly how it played out.
After the doxing of PRguy17 I will be careful. The AFL is a word that rhymes with erupt.
I really want the AFL to go broke. It is the only way fix the rot.”

On the main board re Tom Stewart

" To me this is not far off the 2022 version of Lockett on Caven "

You have to be kidding - from memory Caven went on that Andrew Denton show - and they gave him a baseball bat - and they had a dummy made up of Lockett and he belted the craap out of it

Pity Balmey isnt still our Football manager - because he could escort Tom to the tribunal for knocking out a Richmond bloke - alah Balmey style - how ironic

It’s not even in the Milburn league Bump…**** me posters on Bigfooty obviously haven’t got long term memories or they are on school holidays

So now apparently Stewart deserves to go to prison over his bump...

Tigger nuffs have truly lost it over this one :tearsofjoy: :

"Heres stewarts comments direct from the afl app.

When I spoke to him post-game, he said 'I've just made a horrible error and I feel terrible about it. I ran past the ball and I chose to bump, I didn't mean to do it but gee it was terrible execution and I'm going to pay the price for it'.

He took him out intentionaly.

In a court of law - intention to cause grievest bodly harm is a crime.

If the afl is serious about protecting the players head stewart should get 12 weeks or it should immediately be refered to the law as a criminal offence for the courts to deal with it."

Yep, the AFL should definitely make up new laws to make this guy feel better

I wonder if they said the same when Houli coward punched Jed Lamb? Remember Richmond got then PM Turnbull to vouch for Houli's character and got the suspension reduced to TWO WEEKS! For a king hit from behind! We even have coward punch laws in this state!

Yep, this was absolutely disgraceful.
