we've been pretty bad in finals post 2011 too

and made 2 prelim finals in that time. difference in expectations i guess, they must dream about being as good as us

BT still beating the same "Geelong playing home finals at Simonds" drum he was beating yesterday on Talking Footy, even saying there was talk that the Geelong-Richmond final would be played at Simonds.

Must've been the voices in his head saying that, as the AFL weren't even committed on Geelong playing against GWS here in a final, let alone against the Tigers.

Could pluck a hundred comments out given the salt displayed but this is just a hoot

Selwood gets a lot of love for someone who has been pretty middling his entire career. The only standout attribute about him is he gets knocked out. Terrible record in finals and terrible captain. Amazed how much love he gets.

Terrible captain oh Lordy.

Was bored, so decided to look through the preview thread for our last match against the Tigers on the Tigers board. Some absolute gold there:

Gonna earn your money this week carrying the whole team at geelol... dangerfield

Not even Taylor. He's still playing, but he's finished.

Unfortunately gonna miss at least the first half of this game. Hoping to be home by the time Jack kicks his 20th goal in the first minute of the third quarter.

We would beat them at full strength.

WE ARE BETTER THAN THEY ARE!!!

I think this might be the game that highlights just how many Cats players might be at the end of their careers.

Harry Taylor: I thought he was finished at the end of last year. Close to a liability now. Constantly fumbles and loses his feet. Amazingly, I think he still has another year to go on his contract (could be wrong).

They've been papering over the cracks for some time, whole Club needs a knock down rebuild.

On another note werent Menzel and Fatlop meant to be out for 3 to 4 weeks? Cats are rushing back players they are desperate.
This will backfire massively

even our vfl side would beat this geelong side. coaching staff should just be focusing on freo next week.

clangerfield is shit. every disposal will be a turnover straight into our backlines hands, let him run wild.

well if half your selfish side full of grandpas went and retired like they should do then you could hurry up and start your rebuild instead of wasting everyones time trying to win another flag with 2 decent players and old shit everywhere else on the list.

Some gems from the preview thread for next Friday on the Tiggers board...

I have a feeling we won't lose in finals. We are the best team at the MCG in the AFL.

Hawk fan getting nervous...

Although all my family members are all Richmond supporting wogs who enjoyed the 70s and early 80s (huge rivalry), I truly hope you guys pump Geelong.

You are a much better side than them, and shouldn't crumble. It is time for Richmond to deliver.

We need you guys firing to keep our record in tact as the best club of the modern era.

The handbags with their handouts are no force against our teams insane connection. This team is as plastic as they come. We drafted and developed our best players whilst Freelong were gifted Danger, Touhy, Henderson, Smith.... A champion team beats a team of champions as we saw last year. Luckily this year we are a champion team of champions. I go into this game with insane connection with the tiger faithful and supremely confident.

After speaking to a few Richmond fans at work this week I am absolutely stunned at how confident they are! The only difference between this final and a few weeks ago is we have our key forward and our second and third best midfielders back, and the game will be at the MCG. The MCG is not an unfamiliar ground to Geelong and there will still be 30-40k Cats fans there so it is not like we will have no support.

Can someone give me a real reason why they are so confident about winning the match?

Delusion, plain and simple.

Their superb recent record in finals?

Most delusional supporter base I've come across ... and that extends to worldwide.

Selwood, Duncan, Hawkins, Blicavs and possibly Cockatoo in, to a side that beat Richmond handily last time. That is 3 best and fairest winners and Duncan (probably best of lot these days).

If we lose this, we have well and truly earned finals bottler tag. We should be very short priced favourites.

Very big night for the club.

Normal AFL supporters having faith in their team. Just like us....

Haha, good point. Maybe I am too consumed by the Geelong bubble where we are cautious in certain situations (playing anyone outside the eight, playing Sydney or Collingwood regardless of where they are, playing against a side that trounced us last time we met). We are the club where the lid is traditionally firmly on.

Anything can happen next week, we all know that, but on paper Geelong are firm favourites and rightly so. I just want to know what would suggest Richmond are in with a shot?

Did they miss the bit where he nearly kicked 6 goals on the leagues 'premiere defender'?

Honestly, I think crack has taken over heroin as the drug of choice in Richmond. They're smoking an awful lot of it.

To put it into perspective: we consider a season with 'just' one finals victory as a failure.

A Richmond season ending with one finals victory would make it their most successful season in 16 years....

For what it's worth, I'm confident re next week, however if I was to give some reasons as to why Richmond are backed in, I'd give the following..

1. MCG may suit them more than us as they have more room to move the ball around. We hemmed them in beautifully at KP.
2. Our form after byes.
3. Competition is so close, that if we are off and they play close to their optimum then we'll lose.
4. Their overall form for the season has been consistent so it stands to reason they will be up for the game.
5. Momentum/emotion running with their club.

You could mount plenty of reasons for why they can't win too.

"Dustin Martin is comfortably the best player in the competition right now"

Went on to say Dangerfield is a superstar but Martin has him covered.

I'm sorry Terry you twit but.

Dangerfield leads Martin in the following categories.

Tackles +3
Tackles i50 +1
Disposal effientcy +3%
Contested possessions +5
Turn overs -1.5
Contested Marks
Marks inside 50
Clearances

Things Martin leads Danger on
Kicks
Uncontested possessions
Uncontested marks
Inside 50 +.5
Meters Gained +70

IMO All of the categories Danger has over Martin are a lot more impostant, he wins his own ball, does everything the hard way.

What we do know is that Dusty's season has been possibly the most consistent on record in terms of brilliance and dominance.
He could amass 40 Brownlow votes this year. IIRC, when Couch won his, he may have scored 22, but Williams won one with 17 votes

Not many to steal votes from D. Martin in the Tigers squad, I'd have thought.

Martin is clearly #1 for clangers in the league, too. I think this is rather important.

Delusional as always mate. Cant accept reality so they overcompensate with shocking arrogance.
