At the start of the year / end of last season everyone thought he was gone.

Fast forward a season, and here we have a critical cog in the Hawthorn make-up. One who had a stella, yet un-praised GF:

26 possessions, including 15 kicks and 11 handballs
8 marks
3 tackles
5 clearances
and perhaps most importantly - 5 assists.

He presented well all day, he played hard and fair, he won critical ball when it was there to be won, and he went toe-to-toe with Ablett in the last (and got on top with some ripping runs/clearances).

Here's a thread to the lad we thought was gone before it all started!

GREAT STUFF OSSIE!

Agreed - one of the best on the big day.

I wonder if a flag makes it easier for him to drift back up north when GC17 gets going............

I was just thinking that. A great year from Ozzie. He always had the talent, he just needed to get his body and his mind right. Tick on both counts and look what you get - a cracking GF performance.

Most improved 2008 for mine. And what a year to do it.

If he goes I will miss him but at least as a premiership player he has currency and would be going to a club with some serious picks to throw around.

Having said that, why would you want to leave a premiership side on the verge of a great era at 26 to go to a side that is unlikely to win a flag before your 30?

i was waiting for someone to make a thread on how good osborne was in the GF - thanks for that. he had a very underrated game in the GF and has had a terrific season. well done ossie.

:Da bit of a quiet acheiver.I saw a photo of him with jeff and the cup and he was giving jeff a quizzical look.I don't know why.But ozzy seems like hes at a great age. I thought he was amazing.kind of forgotten in a superstar team but I think he plays a huge part in our team.

Oz played a ripping match in the one that matters.. Went a little unnoticed because of the consistancy hes shown over the season. Should be rewarded with a good result in the Crimmins medal. A massive turnaround this season, gone from one of the last blokes picked to being right up there with a lot of hawk supporter's favourites. Would hate to see him head to the GC, but at his age and the club's position why would you??

Have had that sinking feeling that he may head North, hope it's wrong cause we love the ozz-man.

I'll put my hand up and say pre season i had him in the gun. I reckon i even said we couldn't win a flag with Ossie ,Laddo and Tim Clarke in the side . Pretty embarrassed now but it's these second tier players stepping up that get's teams to the next level. Well done Ossie ,great season.

The difference between Ozzy and the other two is that Ozzy has always had the guts to fight well out of his height/weight range - now he has the skill set to do it he's become a very exciting player.

Not everyone! Maybe some wannabe Mike Sheahans on this board were laying boots into him, but not everyone.

I had my doubt about him going into the start of the season but be shut me up. Great player, great season.

There are some in this place who should be eating humble pie.

To those to whom I refer: I mention members of a premiership team in one of the most memorable Grand Finals -

Ozzie

Laddo

Clint

Going back a season or so -

Chance

I rest my case.

Nicely pointed out. :thumbsu: Been a big Ozzie fan for years. Great to see everyone finally embracing him as a champion

I put my hand up, I bagged Clint for getting caught in possession too much earlier in the year. Ellis too. *kicks self*
Both amongst our best in the Granny, Young in spite of missing half the game. Absolutely tore'em up in the first half!!
Laddo, Ozzie and Changa have always been my mans though.

Gee what a turnaround

he was probably my favourite player 3 years ago and he's frustrated the .......xck out of me in 06 and 07. Thought he always had the talent and athletism to be a good player for us but thought he would never get over his silly acts thought he was on his lasrt chance this year

Got better as the year went by and by the end is probably in our top ten players at the club. Great game in the granny.

Really pleased he's seen the light and making good on all that talent

Bring on Ellis next year!

Should come on in leaps and bounds.
Played a great game in the GF,
I was bagged a few weeks ago by one of the mods for saying he was in our best 22.
I hope he continues to improve and make us all proud next.

Agree with you bigbol069!:thumbsu: Always been an Ozzie fan (just like our coaching panel!!!). He does the hard things that need to be done with little fuss. Was a undisciplined at times (and wasn't alone) but i think he has rectified that now. :thumbsu:
