So in other words. Resting for their Gf against us
Looking like both us and Port are keeping out anyone with a niggle in prep for next week.

More risky for them. Playing away and a chance to lose. Good for us if that happens, but I'm actually wanting them to win. Blues get a win here and they're a real chance to make finals.

A lot has been said about Cartons "resurgence" but it has been against sides that are poor.
Port will put them to the sword if they take the game even half serious.
To be clear, I don't rate Carlton at all. But I hope the cockiness of Port comes back to bite them on the bum. I hope those players they have 'rested' struggle to get into the game the following week because they missed a week of footy they really shouldn't have 😉

Lobb dropped by the Dogs, Darcy comes in. Was a head scratcher of a signing and nothing this year has made sense of it.

Grundy
Lobb
McStay

Similarish money and two out of three already look to be boneheaded decisions. I hope we’re the outlier.

The Grundy one made and still makes sense to me. Gawn was having trouble seeing out a season and they felt he'd be effective forward. Turns out they were wrong, but Gawn's on the slide anyway and may have had a poor year as sole ruck as well.

McStay for us made complete sense. We are missing a key forward, unless we wanted to gamble that Krueger would be it. I'm confident on McStay working out. He has a long history of doing what we need from him.

Lobb just didn't make sense. The Dogs had other parts of the field to improve. Naughton was already an established key forward and JUH clearly ready to take a leap. I guess the reasoning is they wanted a second ruck? Didn't need to spend what they did for that. When they signed him I thought maybe they'd move Naughton to defence, but nope.

Remember in the lead up to the Kings Birthday game when Simon Goodwin repeatedly said "we value Grundy , he's happy to be somewhere that values him" as a subtle dig at us???

Well Goodwin, how are you valuing Grundy now ? We never dropped him .

Beware the big man whose main selling point is small man stuff.
beware a ruckman masquerading as a forward too.

Grundy has arguably been better than Gawn in the ruck, but that’s mainly due to Gawn’s lack of continuity in there. Problem is Gawn has kicked goals as a ruck and Melbourne thought they could turn him into a forward. End result the have a poor forward and turned the ruck from a strength into a break even.

In trying to outsmart the competition, they outsmarted themselves.

Apparently to work on his forward craft, which he was never much good at anyway.
Good forwards take big, contested marks.
Grundy has a history of dropping soda’s and contested chances against short people.
He will have to do a hell of a lot of work in the VFL to change a decade of poor forward craft.

I understand the thinking.

"Why have one top line ruckman when you can have two!?"

Here's the problem. Grundy hasn't actually been a good ruckman since 2019. He played one good quarter on ANZAC Day last year...on one leg. That's it. That's what he's done in the last 3 years (in terms of justifying his contract size and length).
He was Great in RD 1 in 2020 but yeah sincce then he never got back to his Dominant Form he had before that

They needed/need a forward who can play second ruck and weren't planning on it being a first year kid. And Lobb actually had his only decent year last year. That second ruck position is a really hard one to fill.

It was incredibly poor list management by them. They should have been into Cameron (or a Frampton type), not a #1 ruck with no forward craft like Grundy
