I was going to post this on the Dees forum decided against it.

Gawn is on par with Cox for the best ruckman I have seen in my lifetime, absolutely amazing and one of the rare ruck these days that can lift a team over the line.

I always had an issue with Grundy because at times he just didn't impact the game especially with the high profile he had.

Could never go forward and make an impact and alot of the time he would get hit outs that didn't do anything, the odd one was sensational, mostly they were just being hit infront of him.

Always an oversized midfielder that was over paid.

I'm just absolutely amazed a team with a player like Gawn took Grundy.

And says a lot about the character of Gawn to go along with it

Amazing leader, credit to him standing by Grundy aswell, I just don't get how alot of Collingwood supporters knew it wasn't going to work but Melbourne FC thought it could.

How is that possible?

They might have been thinking that at 32 Gawn needs a bit of support these days but he seems to be at his best when he’s one out and shouldering it all. Which leaves Brodie as the most expensive decoy key forward in history

This. Gawn was struggling to get through the season, that's why he needed support. People can laugh at the Grundy signing, but the fact is Melbourne have a healthy Gawn that was able to go out and play like he did against Brisbane. Grundy taking the first ruck load during the season is a significant part of that.

To be clear, I don't rate Carlton at all. But I hope the cockiness of Port comes back to bite them on the bum. I hope those players they have 'rested' struggle to get into the game the following week because they missed a week of footy they really shouldn't have 😉
As it turns out Carton won!!
I haven't watched the match yet.

Grundy played well when Gawn was injured. So Dee's should keep Grundy and trade us Gawn.
Actually imagine if somehow Grundy was traded back for a similar pick to what we got and Melbourne covered half his contract. Besides literally messing with the poor guys head it would be one of the best trades of all time haha.

Would effectively be like we loaned him to Melbourne in return for $X over his remaining contract length, less whatever $ we paid of this years contract.

I actually think Mason has gone passed him in their past two clashes! He physically monsters him at the centre bounces. :)

Melbourne is saying all the supportive things about Grundy, but I think only a Gawn injury brings him back in at this stage.
Supportive?
2 weeks ago…it was “he’s at a place that now values him”…

To now “he has to go back to the VFL and work on his forward craft”….

It didn’t even last a season before they turned on him.

Situation changed. They thought Gawn could have more impact forward. That's the part that's failed, so they need to try Grundy forward instead.

My view: they always had this option in mind. Play Grundy first ruck most of the year and see how it goes. Worst case this protects Gawn's body and makes it more likely he'll be healthy later in the year.

"‘clearly the best team we’ve played", says flog coach after they get thrashed by a team coached by another flog who happens to be his brother.

Clearly the best team they’ve played? Last 4 games they’ve beaten North, drawn with Swans, just got over Melbourne and been thrashed by Port. Not nearly the best team. They’ll only win one of the next 4 and will miss the 8.

they got sucked in by that 5 goal game that Gawn had a while back, thought they had a forward on their hands, but a big difference between a ruck moving forward in match creating a mismatch and actually playing as a permanent forward.

I'd rather eat my own arm than watch that game. I still don't rate Carlton. And it sure does look like Port's cockiness did come back to bite them on the bum.

Hopefully it continues this week too.
Just wanted to see if Port lost or Cartoon won.

Hard to believe that Port took the Blues lightly. Some of the "rested" were necessary. Dixon for one. Some were simply omissions, eg. with Duursmar returning. Don't know their list well enough to know about the others.

I think they felt it was necessary. Two biggest games of the year in the next two weeks. Decided if they didn't keep some of these players out they'd be little chance of getting up for those big games.
