If I was in a workplace where the function censored the choice of humorous presentations in the way that the AFL does, I would be leaving as soon as I could, and certainly not attending any such function. A friend of mine was laughing about how ridiculous her work is. She went to work in a red dress. A guy who she's mates with sang the "The Lady in Red" when she walked into a room. That afternoon she was called in and a manager awkwardly apologised to her for what had occured. And the next day, the singer received an official warning for his behaviour.

I am a little sensitive about some things. As a female as I sometimes have a different sense of humour to males.

Although I can understand workplaces having rules.

All good though wasn't pointing the finger at you, just generally speaking, I will move on.

Nah, denigrating your employer for any reason (that’s not whistleblowing) is going too far. And a really bad idea. What good could possibly come out of it?

If the AFL want to play killjoys at a company function, then I guess that’s their prerogative - but I don’t get why this needed to be anything more than a quiet word behind closed doors on Monday morning. WTF do you need to plaster the antics of an umpire at an end-of-year function across the media?

What that company would need to do is employ a cultural consultant at $2,000 per day to try and figure out why the camaraderie and culture has waned.

‘Pulse surveys’ are the gotos that I’ve come across.

I’ve also come across using a ‘Cultural consultant’ for educating organisations about cultural customs to foster inclusion.

Didn’t realise that it was a thing to hire experts to come in and tell the boss why their staff hate them, and what they can do about it. What a fun gig! $2000 per day sounds fair - it needs to be expensive so the boss listens and pays attention (kinda like lawyers). Boss isn’t going to pay as much attention to the word of Jenny from accounts who would give the same advice for a fraction of the money.

For example, the term “political correctness” was dripping with an irony that got totally lost on many.
