So we wanting port to win tonight? On form GWS are playing better. I’d prob prefer to play current port over current gws
I see Port are at the shorter odds — $1.66 vs $2.17. Can’t see it myself.

So have they let the Pickett bump on Cripps go through to the keeper?

You reckon Michael Christian will be feeling charitable towards Melbourne?

Laura Kane is going to have to rein him in for the second week in a row “Michael, I know Kossie committed five citable offences, but how about you just pick the worst one and we focus on that?”

This might stir some up but the best result for us is if we play Carlton in the GF. They would be coming off 3 games and to be quite honest, I think we have them covered regardless. We would smash them in the GF, a much more difficult task if we play Brisbane
Both finals games Carlton have been poor in the second half. My guess is that they will be cooked by the time the GF comes around. Still l have nightmares from 1970, 1977 and 1979:(

So…. Is back to back straight sets an AFL first since the introduction of the final eight?

EDIT follow up question…. Have we ever had a “ double straight sets” exit with both top four teams going out? GWs a big chance to beat port.
Yes to the first one. The last team to do back to back is Sydney 1986-87.

And the second one has only happened once, in 2014 when both Geelong and Freo went out. Straight sets has been a lot more common since then: semis are 10-9 in favour of the QF loser compared to 26-2 from 2000-2013.

My preference will be to play Carlton in the Grand Final. The joy of winning that would supersede the heart ache of losing... It would be indescribable. Beating the Lions would be amazing, but incomparable. Who's with me on this?

I will take my chances and back in the team which has been the best all year.

Lets get over the line in the Prelim first though.

No hope Chrisso goes hard. Was surprised no mention of anything as yet.

Would prefer the Lions. I could reconcile it in my head if they went on to the flag. I couldn’t with Carlton.

The temptation of beating Carlton in a GF would be a dream come true, but it comes with too much risk.

If Carlton manage to beat Brisbane it will be their Grand Final.
We will make a mess of them.

GWS for me. They have to travel 3 times by plane just to get in and out of Adelaide atm. Then they have to fly back and forth to play us.

Not really.

Blake Acres marks 15 meters out directly in front with around 40 seconds on the clock - and he plays on and kicks the goal.

Collingwood would have taken 30 seconds off the clock before kicking that goal.
Yeh both sides had no idea how to run the clock down, something we do very well

When Lever took that mark with 1.30 left they should have been able to play keeping off for that time. An acres could have easily lost that with his play on decision

Same goes with Carlton travelling to Brisbane. Not so easy to recover quickly from interstate travel.
Hoping Carlton get up.
The ultimate win would be against them. Retribution

I have no fears whatsoever about either side. It's Brisbane that worries me
Same mate although being at the MCG I'm confident.
We need a bruising affair in today's game and also next week's other preliminary.
Only Adams missing is nothing to worry about I think.
Low grade so still a chance.

One thing is pretty clear. Voss has learnt from Fly to drill end game scenarios and tactics and Goodwin hasn't.

Yes Simon, you're dumber than Crazy Vossy.

I disagree. Both teams looked a mess in the last 10 minutes of the game. It's just that carlton looked a less of a mess. To me, drilling drtain routines is far less important than controlling the adrenaline. The Viney kick was an example. Did he have his brain engaged?

All this crap about practicising end of game routines is just the fly trying to mostly convince the team to calm down. Sure it's good that they all know to keep the ball in tight when we're in front and they practice it, but this isnt some form of US football with set plays.

The worst thing that players can do is panic and melb panicked more than carlton...I'd love to know what Gawn was thinking when he tried to tap the ball back in when it was going through a goal.

I think the control of panic is probably one of the major reasons that we won so many tight games. If you think about last week, we went too panicky when melb was coming home, but we did just kick the ball out from defence and invited their pressure. Pendles mentioned it in an interview at something that needed improving.

In fact, I think panic is melbourne's weakness....petracca just panics and kicks the ball long into the forward line. Oliver does the same. Gawn gets it in the ruck and then kicks it blindly instead of handballing it. The list goes on.

I tend to agree with this but I’m terrified of the possibility of losing the grand final to carlton of all clubs.

Those of a certain generation who have bled slowly over multiple grand final losses to Carlton - GF's in which we lead them by 8 goals (halftime), five goals ( halfway through the second term in muddy conditions) and four goals ( late in the third term with rain falling) are very traumatized and the younger generations don't quite understand given they have only seen Carlton as a laughing stock for most of the past two decades.

I agree but the 2 loses to Brisbane are still fresh in the mind

This is true Domie... I was on my way to greatness and was cut down in my prime. Now I want a premiership at any price....I'd be happy if we went the biff if necessary
