This is true Domie... I was on my way to greatness and was cut down in my prime. Now I want a premiership at any price....I'd be happy if we went the biff if necessary
The Weideman way - Murray of course.

I disagree. Both teams looked a mess in the last 10 minutes of the game. It's just that carlton looked a less of a mess. To me, drilling drtain routines is far less important than controlling the adrenaline. The Viney kick was an example. Did he have his brain engaged?

All this crap about practicising end of game routines is just the fly trying to mostly convince the team to calm down. Sure it's good that they all know to keep the ball in tight when we're in front and they practice it, but this isnt some form of US football with set plays.

The worst thing that players can do is panic and melb panicked more than carlton...I'd love to know what Gawn was thinking when he tried to tap the ball back in when it was going through a goal.

I think the control of panic is probably one of the major reasons that we won so many tight games. If you think about last week, we went too panicky when melb was coming home, but we did just kick the ball out from defence and invited their pressure. Pendles mentioned it in an interview at something that needed improving.

In fact, I think panic is melbourne's weakness....petracca just panics and kicks the ball long into the forward line. Oliver does the same. Gawn gets it in the ruck and then kicks it blindly instead of handballing it. The list goes on.
It's as simple as Melbourne didn't change their style between when they were leading against Blues versus being behind against us. It was the same way they'd played all match.

Blues against Swans played boundary line and tried to keep it congested when defending a lead. When coming back against Dee's they loaded up the corridor, went up the guts or for risky attacking 45 degree switches.

The individuals panicking is because they don't have a clear strategy and haven't practised what to do when the opposition go into full on attack mode. And same with the dumb decisions like Pickett having a ping rather than looking for a pass.

I guess it's all hypotheticals at the moment, considering we don't even know who we are playing and when for the Prelim & Blues haven't played Lions yet.

Some of us just can't comprehend there are Pie supporters wishing for a Pie v Blues GF.
Losing another GF to Carlton and giving them their 17th would be the mother of all football nightmares. I get that.

But it simply depends on which team you think we have the best shot at beating in the grand final doesn't it? For me that's Carlton on the back of getting their the hard way.

Not really.

Blake Acres marks 15 meters out directly in front with around 40 seconds on the clock - and he plays on and kicks the goal.

Collingwood would have taken 30 seconds off the clock before kicking that goal.

What if he took his 30 seconds and missed?

Easier to make that decision when you're in front but Carlton were behind and despite the close range the pressure would still have been immense if he had of taken a set shot.

I can understand why in that moment instinct and adrenaline took over and he took the opportunity to goal immediately.

Depends how severe your PTSD is, I guess.

Carlton will be smashed next week.
Limped over the line the last two weeks.

I keep hearing this, but they keep winning. Carlton are ruining all my September fun. I’m starting to have nightmares about them.

They've gotten lucky, thats for sure. But I'd be very surprised if that luck doesn't come to an end next week. I don't want to think of the alternative

coaches often get the sack for not making finals. A lot of the times, I think the whole club is to blame. But in Melbourne's case, I think they could have done much better with a better coach. They have a handful of brilliant players but they dont really play as a team. I'd get rid of goodwin but melbourne obviously cant do that. They're in a weird spot.
Maybe he should just change his name to Expectedscorewin!

If DeGoey did what Pickett just did he'd be hanged, drawn and quartered.
Pickett won't because he plays for Melbourne, or commentators won't touch it because they fear of being called racist lol

But absolutely dirty to throw upper shoulder on someone's head

i still think that practicising the game plan mostly reduces anxiety so players feel that they are on the same page. In the first 15 minutes, the demons went fast down the middle and were killing carlton. Simple plan, all teams use it to score fast. The backs pushing up and keeping it near the boundary is done by everyone as a defensive strategy. But the key point is that these general strategies reduce anxiety. They work but everyone needs to play their part and concentrate and keep their heads. These strategies aren't a magic cure.

The problem occurs when the team knows that they need to keep the ball in close like Viney......but he panics. Not because of lack of practice but lack of discipline...lack of control of adrenaline....lack of trust in the coach's tactics... stuff in the head. They could practice all week on these "Strategies" but melbourne players would still deal with anxiety by just blasting the ball...

And Cozhee is a prime example. So emotional and out of control. He doesn't need more practice in strategy.....he needs a shrink
