i'm not as keen on savage as others are, i'd rather persist with guys like lucas and buckley as uncontested players than savage(clearly savage is the better player) I guess it probably depends on what savage is on a fringe player at the hawks couldn't command much salary in a team that up til recently all took pay cuts to stay together.

If we could nab the hawks buddy compo for hampson (doubtful) it would make getting doc a lot easier and realistically doc is the one we really have a chance at getting.

Assuming we put an offer into daisy on Friday and because he is a restricted free agent and Collingwood have 3 days to match does that include the weekend? or will we have to wait til Wednesday to officially welcome Thomas?

I think it is 72 hours from when the paperwork is lodged. I assume the Free Agency period started on Friday to get the initial movements out of the way so that it would not hold up the rest of the Trade Period with clubs having to wait until it was confirmed before they could move on other players. That should mean the weekend counts and the Pies need to confirm by tomorrow.

Pretty sure it is 3 days after he accepts and the paperwork is lodged with the AFL which has not happened yet.

Rw for mine is untouchable. Is clearly our best ruck.

Hampson would and should score a first rounder. Prime age for a ruck and is a first round pick.

Rw is our no1 ruck as proven by our late season game plan

Haha I love your confidence. If we get a pick inside 30 for Hammer I would be shocked.
I'm also not real keen on Savage. Just seems to be a run of the mill type play, something we have plenty of

Sounds right to me. In Betts case, Carlton came straight out and said we're not matching Adelaide's offer and therefore it's a done deal.

In Thomas' case, I suppose Collingwood are taking the full 3 days to decide whether to match Carlton's offer or not.

What would Geelong want for the other Menzel?
(Surely couldn't demand too high a price)

Everyone knows the risk

Everyone also knows the reward

Just a thought

If they did, would anyone be surprised?

Good question, he is the forgotten man at the Cats during all the potential trades talk. His history of injury would probably put most teams off making any offer and the Cats would seem harsh if they offered him up for trade given the amount of rehab he has been through, however we could make an offer to let him play with his brother saving the Cats any embarrasment.

Should cost a first round pick if healthy and we would not be prepared to pay that sort of price. What he is worth right now (late second round/early third round) would be an insult to the Cats so it is unlikely. Would be exciting to have them both at the club though.

It is true Collingwood have 3 days to match our offer. But that 3 day period hasn't started yet as Thomas has not lodged the papers to nominate a move to Carlton yet. However, the deal wasn't expected to be done until after the weekend according to the Herald Sun and The Age. Should happen tomorrow.

Laidler - menzel swap?

The trade would obviously be inadequate if D Menzel was fully fit

Spot on and be rest assured they will take the full 3 days to respond even though it is highly unlikely they will match our offer.

Hurry up Monday!!

Why the delay in lodging the paperwork?

I am sure the offer was made and accepted prior to Friday.

Would be hilarious if they matched our offer and we back out.

Not sure why but all media outlets didn't expect anything to happen on Friday. Expect something to happen tomorrow. If nothing happens, that's when it might start to look a like fishy.

If the papers were lodged on Friday I am sure we would all know by now.

The paperwork could NOT be lodged before Friday as Friday was when the free agency trade period officially started.

Just looking at the genetics, the Menzel parents must be getting around in calipers.
