Eh, that was mostly all on Grimes who completely switched off during that play.

As much as it was Grimes losing Zurhaar at the stoppage, Sonsie is ball watching while his man Simpkin lays a block on Grimes, and Cotchin sees Zurhaar quite literally brush past him with no man on him.

Just a break down in communication, with Grimes being blocked far too easily by Simpkin, Sonsie ball watching and Cotchin too worried about JHF.

Watching the whole stoppage a couple of times, it is criminal the way Cotchin just watches Zurhaar waltz past him and the only thing Cotch tries to do is to weakly bumper-bar him. Cotchin should've seen Zurhaar free, and start manning him up.

Nank should have got front spot, Grimes should have been goal side, Cotch blocks Zurhaar with force and maggotts probably award a free, Pickett was the sweeper and would have nailed Zurhaar but Ziebell pushes Pickett in the back and there is the pathway/goal. Even tho 4th banana Miller still manages to bump him but a whisker late so no cigar. lets hope this nightmare dosen't happen again this year.

The pressure forward has a short lifespan, you get as many touches as a dog chasing cars, you can only do it for so long.

Just like Dan Rioli was reinvented in the backline itis time to reinvent Castagna. Elite endurance, agility, repeat sprints and tackling he is the perfect midfield tagger.

Should never have been brought back in as a forward, should stay in the VFL midfield until he earns a spot in our midfield

Jason Castagna (24 disposals, seven clearances, four tackles)

"Had a really good day in and around the contest. We used him as a mid to try and get his hands on the footy, and he clearly stood out in the contested areas of the game with 13 contested ball. He took a really important mark in our backline as well."

He'll never earn a spot in the midfield. His kicking is just too bad.

Actually it was his handball that was not up to scratch, he kicked the ball well enough. He was pretty good around the stoppages because the has great agility and speed and took the game on and got out of some tight spaces really well. But you need to be good by hand first and foremost which he has never been, plenty of inside mids can kick it long at least.

The only chance George has is if he goes back and learns to play midfield and improve his decision making under duress then bring some of that back to the seniors. He has had seasons where his pace and ability has served him pretty well, but the dreaded small pressure forward eventually turns skilled players (Rioli/Stack) into hacks. He is on the list for another year, so why not go back and work on deficiencies.

No composure, no footy smarts, shit skills by hand and foot. Will never be a midfielder.

Yep exactly what this team needs is an undersized, fumbly, poor kicking midfielder in the rotation.

Not suggesting he becomes a mid at AFL, no chance. But if he goes back and plays that role in the VFL and becomes a better player in the pressure of the midfield, which he did play well in on the weekend, then if he ever gets back to his forward flank he will be a better player having honed some skills somewhat.

Skills will always be his downfall, but you can improve your composure if you get amongst it more. The small forward role he has been playing is a killer and has killed everyone at Richmond who has been played there. Stack the latest, as a player who should be cemented in our senior side but has been asked to play the small forward role and has been reduced to half the player he was. Rioli as a forward. Cumberland looks like bucking the trend because he is an attacking weapon, finally.

No not as a mid, but back as a better all round player who could still play forward but with a bit more licence to play a more offensive game. It's a long shot but he is signed up so you may as well try something new. He does have some attributes or he would never have played 120 odd games.

Spot on, he will really benefit from an extended run in the midfield, playing at the lower level will give him more time and space to learn the game and the composure will come. Am really seeing this in Parkers game at VFL level.

Parker should really be in serious consideration this weekend, at least as the sub

Definitely should be trialing a Mancell or Banks for a midfield lockdown role, have never understood Dimma’s reluctance. Not sure we have many that could fill the role, perhaps it may be something George could consider to extend his time at the club.

I think our midfield might be better than last night suggested. Sonsie looks a player, his second Q after a dreadful first was excellent, really surprised me how nippy he was round the ball and he tackled pretty well.

Ross will only get better, but needs to up the aggression when he is in the midfield, needs to be first to the ball a bit more but still tracking well.

MRJ with another couple of kg's of muscle and another solid preseason will be a player who can hunt the ground ball. We were slow around the ball last night, Cotchin did not have an extra gear you need in finals where the speed ramps up. Does not have another year in him and I would think he knows it. MRJ will improve that.

I think a dark horse for the midfield is Cumberland. There is a lot of Dusty about him. The aggression, the breakaway pace (would be quicker). Good size, great agility. Seems too good not to utilise him where we need him most. Would love to see him train as a mid and like Dusty he can play forward as well.

Prestia is still a star. Martin if he stays.

Brisbane still seemed better inside.

Makes you wonder if we should have paid the extra to land Tom Mitchell.

More so after bringing in Tarrant.

Good to see Gibcus, sonsie, MRJ etc. Get a game even in losing team

If we somehow manage to get Taranto AND Hopper, then I think we’re set for a few years.

Taranto, Hopper, Ross, Sonsie, Prestia, Cotch(?) and Shorty is great and well balanced mix for the middle.

Mitchell is so average. Yes Brisbane's mids torched us because our mids are either old and slow or young and developing. That is the stage we are in. We were really admirable last night, but our mids besides Sonsie were destroyed. Neale was great, he's a Brownlow medalist for a reason and has had a great season. We may need to recruited mid, but it is part of the process of rebuilding. Next year those young mids will be in a far better place to take us forward than this year.

Also a brownlow winner and gets his hands on the ball. 28 ppg which was needed. Might have slowed the damage

Bringing in a senior defender but young mids was a strange way forward. Almost paid off

Mitchell was average this year and is being moved on at Hawks.
Prestia was the difference, but credit to Brisbane it was a great game.
