I've never previously been a fan of bringing Choco back in any capacity but honestly we've lost our way as a football club so badly that I'm now in favour of it. This vanilla franchise we've been turned into will never win a premiership ever in any of our lifetimes. A major paradigm shift is needed and it is needed quickly.

Choco would call out the last ten years for what it was straight up, can see him doing that.

Who knows but I’d entertain him in the role he does now.

He doesn’t think much of Ken as a coach, that much I have heard.

Having Choco back working in the same role with someone like Carr or Schofield would be high risk high reward, he's got a real track record doing what he does now and I'd imagine would instill some much needed old school Port Adelaide back into the club.

But considering how crazy things supposedly got towards the end last time with him it'd be living dangerously.

Am certain players like JHF, Butters, Georgiades would benefit hugely though.

I see no problem with living dangerously - it'd be a welcome change from the safe options of the last 12 years, and it might actually make people like me become interested in the club again. Our club is more stale than at any time in its history, so bringing someone like Choco back to the club would be like a breath of fresh air.

I think bringing him back in the role he's in now under a Carr or Schoey could potentially work very well. The club is indeed the most stagnant it's ever been, almost from top to bottom.

Hayden Skipworth building a strong resume.
Currently senior assistant at Collingwood and midfield coach is my current favourite.

I will listen to anyone not currently associated with our present structure. Anyone.

Daniel Giansiracusa pretty well qualified.

If Carr is getting Hinkleyfied as some suggest, I'm throwing Dean Cox's name into the hat.

He’s been an assistant with Syd for some time now under John Longmire.

I've changed my vote from Carr to other although Schofield is appealing.

There are a lot of young coaches with strong resumes out there.

I would like the head coach to be able to bring in assistants from outside too.

The more I look at it Carr is building a connection to the players, it will be a smoother transition.

There is no way while Koch is there will they put a broom through the place.

Carr will get his shot - and I reckon next year.

You have to remember he knows Tredders, Schofield, Monty etc… he’d be well aware of what’s going on at Port, he’d be biding his time.

I won’t paint him with the Ken brush just yet.

Think of it like a famous winery. The house style is set by the owners, it’s adhered too with tinkering around the edges and input by the head winemaker and team.

When Ken goes it all shifts - because Dixon will be gone too, i reckon Dixon is gone end of year, then maybe Ken too, his game plan won’t work with the other guys.

If Carr is going to set his stamp then he might suggest Boak moves on, like any new boss he’d want to make a mark.

Bringing Choco back would be akin to having a scorched earth start everything from scratch policy, and I don't think that is necessary yet as the list is still good enough to salvage something if the correct decision is made re hinkley.

That is unfortunately still a very big IF given the extremely weak individuals currently in control of the club, but I'm still hoping WGT can achieve something behind the scenes, particularly if he can get support from some of the other board members who have been there in the better days.

Back to Choco, there is no doubt he can be a polarising figure who lost the plot big time in his last few seasons at Alberton, and as pointed out by JBC there were clouds over his departures from both GWS and Richmond, particularly the latter where he apparently went from being originally anointed as Sheedy's successor to a thankyou, but no thankyou!

Getting rid of hinkley is paramount to any on field improvement and I would have no issue with his successor being Josh Carr or Power Lil's fav Schoey, and if whoever the new coach is they want Choco as a mentor I would have no problem with that, as long as it is their decision and it's not forced on them.

I don't think being a good assistant coach automatically makes you a good senior coach, the skill sets required are quite different. Also, I don't think being an assistant coach at a successful club, even more than one successful club, makes you a good assistant coach - you could just be in the right place at the right time.

Yes but the assistant coach of the year in 2022 Ill bet was a really good one because that was a tough year. In fact even without checking who he is I think we should target him as our next head coach.

(Ftr my post was a joke and I do agree with you here)

Unlike Hinkley, I can't see Choco or Schofield smiling and laughing after losing a game that's for sure.

When Choco was at Port he used to instruct the players to wait until they were behind closed doors after the match if they wanted to have a chat and a laugh with an opposition who was a mate, relative etc - because he didn't want the fans to see it because it would make them irate.

At least with Choco you know he will try absolutely everything to make the team win, he won't just accept mediocrity for being what it is.
