Prediction Our next coach

I have posted here before and will post again.

I would take Ken Hinkley in a heartbeat.

Not gonna get us a flag. But if you told me we would have him for 5 seasons from 2026-30 I would take it if we have 2 finishes of 5th place spots in 2026-8 which means 3 years we get Elim finals wins then 2 years of 9th to 12th and flick him after that then yeah.

Or if Ken Hinkley hangs around for 12 seasons and gives us similar finals success like he did at Port Adelaide from 2013-24. That is 3 or 4 preliminary finals and 5 or 6 finals wins in 12 seasons, then I am keen for that stability.

Ken is a ****ing dud

Stfu about Ken ****ing Hinkley ffs

Ken Hinkley would be a massive upgrade. I like the fact he gets stuck into opposition players from time to time. He’s arrogant and a prick. It’s perfect. Hinkley has taken Port, a club with similar issues to us, two team town, not locally or nationally favoured to very high positions on the ladder. He’s convinced numerous players to join the club, and has picked holes in the list to try and correct them. I think our list is better than Port Adelaide’s. Yet we have continuously finished below them.

John Longmire would be far further down my list. He gets gifted top picks every year and an elite list. It would be a culture shock to move to a club that isn’t favoured by the AFL and given huge drafting advantages and salary cap concessions.

Ken hinkley please

I think it's proven beyond a doubt he ain't winning a premiership.

So why waste more time.

His stubbornness, defeicance & arrogance he is simply not a man you want running the show.

The only coach on paper to perform worse than Justin Longmuir so far this season.

I’m pretty certain Geelong is a much better team than Collingwood as well.

Anyone else got the feeling Port is going to be quite sh**e with this coaching handover hanging over their head and Hinkley is going to leave earlier than planned? He might be available quicker than people think.

But Sydney doesn’t have salary cap concessions! If you’re stupid enough to believe the AFL anyway - they probably just renamed COLA despite not changing anything else and then said COLA doesn’t exist anymore.

We don't need a sensitive new age guy, we need a caring understanding nineties type.

Think we’ll need to just find the best assistant coach in the country that’s willing to coach us, preferably someone working under a premiership coach currently.

A old school ex-senior coach who’s a but of w**ker is probably something we need in the coaches box as well. A new coach without proper support will go the same way as JL.

Think the list is good enough that it won’t be the problem when trying to find a new coach tbh. It’d be seen as the best list available for a new senior coach in quite some time if you exclude the coaching handover situations. It’s just whether a new coach is willing to move to WA or not. If the new senior coach can bring quality assistants with him that’d give them extra marks too.

We need to bring in people who know how to win AFL premiership’s and in particular premiership’s from out west.
Not necessarily the coach but he needs to surrounded by experienced people.

The likes of John Worsfold or Adam Simpson as general football manager who have done it before from out west would be huge.

Someone like Horse would be awesome as the next coach or I can’t believe I am saying it but would take Luke Beveridge over JLo.

If it’s a first year coach it has to be surrounded by senior experienced assistants none of this ex Fremantle people who have no experience in what it takes of winning a premiership at AFL lvl.

Simpson would add value.

I do find it intriguing Simspon hasn't left WA yet, almost unprecedented for a Vic coach.

Why is he hanging around?

I’d say it doesn’t work when the senior coach is practically being pushed out, like Malthouse/Buckley handover.
It worked for Sydney because Roos was going to leave anyway, that was a genuine handover to a long time assistant.

You have different ambitions to most other posters here. You seem resigned to the fact that Freo will never win a flag and are content to just play finals. Everyone else here wants to aim higher.
Listen here. I originally predicted that Justin Longmuir was gonna last between 5 to 8 years at our club.

This is his 6th season and on current form, he won't coach the dockers beyond this season.

I couldn't see Justin Longmuir to coach this club to a flag. I was happy to be proven wrong.

I just think in this instance a lot of Port Adelaide fans have wanted Hinkley gone for years. If they aren’t doing well this year (and a 91 point loss is a bad start) I think it’ll get quite ugly with those same fans demanding Hinkley leave immediately.

We won't get Kingsley but by all accounts Montgomery who is one of their assistants, is an AFL coach in waiting. It's going to be someone shiny new like him I think rather than a recycled senior coach
We shouldn’t be scared of a new coach, with new eyes. Have to take risks sometimes.

Under Brad Scott at Essendon, they play a game style where they keep the ball in motion at all costs and are not afraid to attack. I just get the feeling AFL house wants teams to play this way.

Our next coach should embrace this style of play.

Looks as hard a cats head, he's the type we need.
I'm really tired of mumbles, I cant imagine how the players go trying to amp themselves up after listening to JL.

Montgomery is probably the favourite unless someone else sacks their coach first. You want someone from a team that’s performing well and is also learning off a good coach.

If the year plays out like our history and JLo’s overall career would suggest and he gets the boot, for the love of god do a proper and exhaustive recruitment process.

Get external people likely Buckley and Longmire involved in the process, so we actually have a chance at picking the best available candidate not just whatever the jabronis in charge at the club’s personal favourite is (looking at you Garlick and Beveridge if the media is to be believed).

Otherwise we’ll continue being an irrelevant joke.

Writings on the wall.

I feel for JL, but you can't hide the lack of results..
You can make excuses, there is also a time when the penny has to drop.
The players seem to love the guy, though the bandaid needs to ripped off, sooner rather than later.

My biggest concern is we will end up winning a few games & end up finishing 9th, JL will sign for another year, & we will waste another season fapping about.
