If the year plays out like our history and JLo’s overall career would suggest and he gets the boot, for the love of god do a proper and exhaustive recruitment process.

Get external people likely Buckley and Longmire involved in the process, so we actually have a chance at picking the best available candidate not just whatever the jabronis in charge at the club’s personal favourite is (looking at you Garlick and Beveridge if the media is to be believed).

Otherwise we’ll continue being an irrelevant joke.

I agree with you except those two mentioned in Buckley and Longmire I'd want as potential candidates

I don't understand people wanting Buckley... Especially when people are saying "His coaching style is similar to JL's"

JL was Buckley's assistant coach? Of course it's going to be similar

Monty probably the pick of the bunch of current assistants although I’m nowadays sceptical of “highly rated” assistants.
Otherwise someone like Horse would be a good fit imo. This young group needs someone with authority who doesn’t **** around

I definitely don't want Buckley. He can coach, but his style is very similar to JL.

Yeah but he’s spent his career on the fruitless pursuit of a flag

Just like us

If the club hasn't reached out to Longmire yet the whole place needs firing. Proven, doesn't miss finals, experience being non-Vic and the respect to bring in the assistants he wants

And I love seeing a good spray down the phone from the box. Not many have done that as well and Horse in recent times.

I think if you look at the successes over the last few years it is getting the fresh ideas in, not your recycled head coach. We have unfortunately struck coal with JL but I think it's the right approach to target the up and coming assistants.

No to Longmire, Beveridge, Buckley, Simpson etc.

Kingsley despite sounding like a total meathead has GWS playing good footy. Yze not bad stylistically at least.

Simmo I would 100% try to poach as an assitant. Has been there done that even if Mitchell was a big contributor to 2018.

Agree with whoever further up in the thread says the AFL has a style they want the game played like and will bend the rules to make it work, we've seen this with Ross.

Has anyone suggested Simon Garlick? His speeches at club awards nights, season launches etc, seem to inspire the players (and fans) more than the coach. The latter seems to hate speaking in public, which to me, is a key criteria for the head coach of an AFL footy club.

I love what JLO brought as a player, but I don’t think head coach is his calling, if anything, he seems to be getting less confident as the seasons progress. This can’t be good for the playing group.

Need someone who has been the senior coach before, in our history only Ross met that criteria (if not for poor goal kicking he would have won a flag for us)

Stupid question - can a coach be replaced during the season by an external suitor? Or would an assistant have to take the reigns for the rest of the year?

No point sacking JL in 4 weeks with Grayham coaching for the rest of the year.

Why a senior coach when previous posts seem to suggest that senior coaches don’t have a great record winning premierships at second clubs?

If we lose the derby JLo should go and Graham should coach the rest of the season IMO.

I don't know John Longmire but he was born in NSW so the Swans were a good fit. Mid-50's, been in the game almost 40 years and 14 years as Swans coach so he could easily be worth $10+ million dollars and unlikely to be interested in uprooting his life to the other side of the country and the challenge of coaching Freo.
