Article on Fox Sports from August talking about highly underrated assistants says this about Yze

Not many used the football better by foot than Adem Yze during his 14-season career at Melbourne — and that’s part of the reason why he was first brought to Hawthorn. After starting his time at the Hawks as a specialist goal kicking coach in 2011, Yze has worked as a development coach and overseen a line, before moving into his current role as head of match day strategy and opposition, where he is one of eight coaches working under Alastair Clarkson.

Yze looks after Hawthorn’s opposition preparation where his communication skills help him deliver a clear message of how the Hawks plan to beat their opponents each weekend. One player said Yze’s ability to connect with players make it easier to execute what he wants, while his pristine foot skills — he has six or seven different kicks, like a bowler has different deliveries — have helped every player on the list improve their kicking. His influence has also been felt at junior level, where he is heavily involved with suburban club Ashburton Redbacks.

Just reading this here makes me think he's a good fit. Also watching the video from nine news makes me think he's got the job doesn't say he interviewed says he is getting a feel for the place.

Ideally next week, so the new coach can have some input into decisions on players.

Ideally today

I’m not too fussed about the trade week stuff as I have faith in Justin Reid but it’s been 3 weeks since Pyke quit and I think they would have had ample time to replace him.

Why would yze leave hawthorn and his home state to be an assistant coach or head of strategy coach? He already does this where he is now. Hes here for the top job imo.

Oh I can think of another promotion that should be available, and Yze would be suited too.

I’m not so sure about Reid.
We giving off a chunk next yr for a spud to play elsewhere.

Seems he reacted to players going as well rather than impact.
Look at Greenwood and Keath he ain gonna do that again especially when it rolls along at board meetings.

It is better than paying full AFL salary to play SANFL footy.

Or worse still play AFL and leave Stengle out. Then retire at the end of the year.

Yeah of coarse I’m pissed about Eddie and his coarse.
I’m pissed about Jenkins and his end up esp when Noble was probably here.
It like insider trading.

We got the best years out of both.

Their contracts probably a bit too young.

I have no opinions on Yze one way or the other but I don't really get the strategy area that many are talking about as the main focus. I think this is perfect for the assistant coaches or senior assistant to deal with. When we brought in Pyke, this was an area he was strong in and whilst it didn't feel that way over the past couple of seasons, that was his strength at WCE and what we credited him for in 2016 and 2017. Pyke's let down was his player management skills from all reports and I think that's what should be our main focus of whoever our new coach is. If he can't talk to the players, make those personal connections and know how to motivate them/get them thinking on unison then it won't matter how brilliant he is tactically as it just won't work.

Yze might just be the guy that can talk to the players like this and make those personal connections, I don't know. I just think the reasons many are liking coach x or y are for the wrong reasons as those areas won't be the main reason whether the coach suceeds or fails.
I think strategic analysis vs game day strategist are completely different things and Pyke definitely lacked the latter skill.

Alot of people can take information in a relaxed environment, study it and formulate a plan.

Not many people can make strategic moves under immense pressure, with no time with the game on the line. It takes an extremely strong mind, strategic thinker, who oozes football nous and has alot of courage to sometimes do the thing which isn't statically the right move. Somehow these moves end up winning the game and these guys are considered geniuses.

Pyke would make a great senior assistant. With the pressure off and time to analyse I think he could be very useful. He strikes me as a numbers guy, someone who would be excellent in scouting teams and coming up with strategic options. A game day strategist, he is not.

We need someone who can engage with all the players for sure, however I argue that we haven't had a game day strategist since Blight.

Gut feel says Yze is more this person than Nick's. I say this because I've seen him make genius like moves in the field in a spilt second. Granted this doesn't always translate but he also has served an apprenticeship under arguably the greatest coach of the modern era.

I'm on board the Yze train for sure.
