In 2027, the average AFL player salary will be 519K - which is 34% higher than in 2022. That is the last year of the CBA but the TV deal apparently has 5% annual escalation so you would expect that to flow through the next CBA at the very least.

So another way of looking at it, $1.8M in 2027 AFL salary dollars is worth about $1.34M in 2022 dollars.

Every chance we are still well set up for free agency top shelf players in the next couple of years.

Daicos's, JDG, Moore would all be on unders compared to industry average
Free agents in general I don’t doubt, but the most expensive ever is a different story. I’d be chuffed if proven wrong, but at it stands it is hard to imagine we could find the room for one that will be almost impossible to extract anyway.

Long every day of the week. And twice on Sundays. He is younger and a bigger body than Sully. I often see Pendles coaching him onfield. Reckon Pendles has taken him under his wing. He will be a good player
Long is slow and Fumbly and disposal ain’t good
However he’s big and his pressure tackling and intent is good

Since we are good at stealing potential recruits from other clubs, why not double down?

The Giants keeping Derksen this year might be a blessing in disguise. Why not get in his ear now and try to lure him when he’s out of contract next year?

Might only cost us a late 2nd/early 3rd.

Talk of LDU is absolute pie in the sky with the deals for Houston and Perryman plus the impending re-contracting of Maynard and Hill.

The only caveat is of course someone like Noble this year requesting a move. The catch is I’m not convinced it would be popular on here to land LDU if it meant sacrificing say IQ.

They’ll need to in order to pay the 95% cap floor.
The hard nosed list manager in me thinks this would be excellent business.

Our backline is now absolutely stacked. Take two first round picks for Quaynor and bring in the free agent.

Good for list balance, good for the now and good for the future.

Why is everyone saying Dev nominated us?

Did he actually? I can't find it anywhere or heard it
He didn’t and we aren’t pursuing him, Leppa comfirmed.

Makes sense from a list management perspective but I think we’ll struggle to get two firsts for Quaynor after sport struggled to get that for Houston.

You've still got your training wheels on. TradeDraft has ~153,000 posts. Stop being so bloody lazy.
In all fairness to Apex though he hasn't got a Apex thoughts thread has he

Anything of substance ?
  • No more trades coming in
  • Membery will have a medical at the club.
  • Club is backing Fin for next season saying everyone doesn’t have a fast start to their career.
  • Coaches will discuss more on Tomlinson after the trade period.

The link of the podcast will be up soon. I’ll post it or someone will. :)

Only way I could see that happening is with a major exodus (including Maynard), which would be ... not good
You would backend it though for 3-4 years time when JDG/Moore/Maynard are 32/33 and no longer commanding peak contracts. Apart from Daicos, we don't have many under 25s that will command big contracts so we can use that talent gap to attract a FA in that age bracket.
