With Kennedy saying he wants to go to Carlton id say he will be a priority for hem now, can see them going after Devon Smith too as they are in love with ex GWS players
Really odd I would have thought. I thought Carlton would be all over pick 3 for pick 4 and rocky.[/Q

Dodongo initially thought it was strange he chose Port because Dodongo thought Rockliff was one of the players that hated Voss for being 'too hard' on them when Rockliff was in his 'too cool for school' days and was one of the players trying to push Voss out the door. But looking at that then, and Rockliff now, it shows how much he's matured to put that behind him. Good for him Dodongo says!

I think it just shows how little we actually know about what goes on in the club. We are talking about things that happened last year but all we really know is that we posted lots of rumours and now we are referring to them like they were actually facts.

Yeah mine info at Port was 700k over 4 years with a small amount of wiggle room left(About a week ago).

I do hope that's been bumped up to 800k

Yep ..It's about the same..my info was 720k pa over 4

Depends on what Port are paying. He could be essentially picking up an extra average Australian wage. Even if you're picking up $650k a year, an extra $50k -$80k per year over 3 or 4 years is a lot of money.
Aside from that, there is a lot of assumption around this "loyalty" word. Is the club disloyal, or Tom? Who is expected to be loyal, and at what cost? Why do people assume Tom has been loyal or that the club owes him, or vice versa?
This year was always going to be about him improving or regaining his value. Last year he was out the door if we could find a taker, there was none. The whole redemption narrative this year was about getting a buyer. Looks like we got one.
Your last sentence makes a good read turn putrid.
Pretty sure there was a genuine turnaround from rocky and fagan saying we want him to stay was not just part of some scam to get him out of here .
However i do consider both parties whete willing to give it a go for a year and strive to improve his worth as a player and then renegotiated at the end of 2017. But there is no way all the feel good stories about him was just a pitch.

..

Trouble is...atm Carltons next pick is 38 ....They still need to accommodate Gold Coast for Saad and GWS for Kennedy & Smith looks like the futures picks market...Rocky to Port sort of stuffs the replacement for Gibbs should the trade to Adelaide go ahead...

I agree. Have also heard Zorko saying how desperately he wanted Rocky to stay and Dayne Beams and some of the young midfielders saying how supportive and helpful he had been this year. He also was awarded the Players Player Award at the best and fairest night. I genuinely fear that if the players think Rocky has been screwed over we could end up losing more young players again in the future. I hope I am wrong but this doesn’t feel good to me.

All of this does not require you to move on one of the only quality experianced players you have. Sure we will move on and quite likely continue to improve. Opportunities will be taken by guys like Berry and Keays and thats great. He will leave a hole though and I hope this is as well thought out as many of us seem to think it is. #hopewecantrustthefagnob
Embrace change my fellow lion.

As long as Rockliff makes it clear he wants to go, then our young ones should cope and understand. .

Just the same, wouldn't hurt for the coaches to reinforce the loyalty angle.....could use the Tigers as an example. Martin chose to stay.

(Could end up being another FIGJAM situation;))

Don't have too much of a problem if he leaves. Our centre clearances have been terrible for years so something needs to change in there. We still have maturity in the middle. But if he is getting 720k per annum over 4 years, then it would be bloody frustrating to lose Band 1 for only 80 k (if band 1 is 800k).

Unless we've got a busy trade period planned this year or next, I'm not seeing much in the way of positives here.
Pretty bloody disappointing all round if you ask me, particularly for a rubbish pick.

Just when we need experience players we can’t wait to turf them out the door.

Shit form by the club and by Tom IMO.

Looking forward to a new midfield dynamic and a consistent and restrained approach to managing our list and salary cap. Onward and upward.

Bit of irony in him ending up at Port considering the events leading up to his drafting too.

What the hell does it matter what the tigers do? Thats their culture - ours is happy to have the players player leave . the young ones picked rocky as their best in ground more times then anyone else so it obviously means they respect him. I sure hope Hodge can fill those shoes cause its a big loss. And given Fagan has been working on on that for a while and hasn't done anything to retain the onfield leader it could rebound ugly. Real ugly.

I will start this by saying I wish Rockliff all the best and don't begrudge him seeking the best terms for himself and family what will no doubt be his Final contract. But need to remind myself how emotionally attached a lot of fans get to certain players, as from my perspective it is a logical decision to let him go and hopefully bring in some more talent, whether a teenager with no ceiling or hopefully even a seasoned midfielder.

In my mind if we gain Cameron and bring in some young mids we are building a team that can contend, and if Tom's departure means we win 6 games next year instead of 8 that's fine with me, as sometimes tough decisions need to be made for long term gain.

Can't beleive i am about to say this. But i agree. I have always been a rocky fan (blindly sometimes). But i feel this is a great move by tom and the club. Change things up. Free some cap space. Who knows could be a big name that hasn't come out yet that we maybe able to acquire. Man im gonna miss him.

4 years ago who would of thought we would be lining up round 1 without rockliff redden and hanley?
