Prime Train bringing in a few people down at cathedral today, a few soft drinks sold and a great day was had by all. Exciting times over at the nest, looks like their neighbours have dug themselves a little bit of a hole, should be an intriguing game round 1. One teams playing for the 4 points and the other playing for…. well… dirty money.
what was the score?

Fantastic to see Prime Train submerging himself in to the club culture, the club rooms were buzzing, he’s ready to go. Thanks to the Gateway for putting Tommy boy up, the service was lovely.

Would it be fair to say the salary cap rules are black and white, so to speak.
Mate get over it. There has been 3 pages now of mostly you banging on about it.

Yes they got caught red handed, yes they only got a tap on the wrist. But every other team in the top 5 are over yearly, so no point carrying on.

Lets get back to talking about the up coming season

Your clubs professional bookkeeper will have put the accommodation into the salary cup column right ?

Nah mate, apparently if you claim ignorance and blame it on innocent volunteers you can get away with a slap on the wrist. Keep your eyes peeled, I feel there’s going to be another layer, I’ll be contacting the league about the light penalty, I know of 25 other people who will do the same. The uproar around Albury Wodonga and surrounding towns has been quite telling. I’ll be penning letters until I get some noise.

righto then. Go pen the letters and come back once you hear back from whoever you pen them to. Give us some peace

So why wouldn't Wangaratta just tell every paid player that they are not required till round 3 , save a heap of payments to help with the fine and play a heap of kids.

Penalty seems strange as it gives them no incentive to compete in rounds 1 & 2. Surely -8 points is the way to go.

Plenty of incentive round 1.

They still wouldn’t want Rovers to go 4 points ahead of them especially as they are the biggest threat to displace one the top 3 sides. It might add a bit of spice to the round one Easter Clash

I’m hearing Wang was warned multiple times about breeches. Let’s just agree that most clubs breech but Wang was unlucky to be caught.
Hypothetical here. Piss off the salary cap, if your club is good enough to attract good sponsors who wanna put in good money then great. Keep the points system in and tighten up crossing between clubs and fine tune a few things

They were warned mid year. Ignored it and were so arrogant they still went after Corowa and and Myrts players. Getting rid of the cap is a bit unfair on Corowa and Myrtleford isn’t it? You’ve got a powerhouse club in the Albury CBD and Yarra got a thriving city to themselves to draw from.

I somewhat agree here. Single club towns “should” be able to draw almost everyone in the community to sponsor them. Locals in multiple club towns know where their loyalties lie. If a town cant generate sponsors for their club in said single club town, somethings not right

Isn't there a cluster of clubs around corowa, so really not a 1 club town

How do the smaller clubs compete, 125k might be their max? Do you want a two tiered comp where's there's a greater divide than now?

For major leagues or all leagues ?

Take the cap away and more clubs will go to the wall. Either by overspending to stay on the park or pull-up stumps cause they can’t afford to put a team on the park.

Not every club has the luxury of major sponsors in the town.

Some clubs don’t even have a town.

Plus. Removing a salary cap would instantly overnight had 20% to many average footballers wages. Cause some club will always pay overs.

Edit. As mentioned below. And it’s a good idea.
I have no issue on offering assistance to help bringing juniors back to play when they move away. But their club juniors

1000% agree with this statement. I’m sure a lot of clubs have the $$ to boost there list a bit but the system rewards player retention. Can afford to leagally offer incentives for juniors to return from melb ect.

What do we think the players will do when there’s no cap? I think they will ask for more and more money to play. I don’t expect players to play for nothing but geez some of the $ they are asking for has become the main issue.

That’s exactly my point.

Lucky they aren’t on performance contracts
