Opinion Paddy Dow, can you see a pathway for him to break into our best 22 or are we resigned to losing him?

What are Dow's chances of breaking into the best 22?

Hayes can definitely play on a wing and also HB, which could release Doc to a wing
I don't think that adding Hayes makes it more difficult for Dow. Dow has half a season to prove himself as a Carlton player. That is despite the fact that even if it is deemed that he isn't a Carlton player, he might do very well at another club that is missing a inside midfielder. We have significant talent in that space and if he isn't considered good enough then we should be able to trade for draft picks that may help us get talented key defenders or forwards. I only hope he works hard and smartly. He seems a good kid and his footy future depends on it.

They don't play similar roles, you're quite right.

I don't see Dow as someone who plays on instinct.
Always seems worried, anxious... like he is second guessing himself, which will slow anyone down, in any sport.

He's never looks like he feels at home with us and oddly, I've never viewed him as a Carlton player. Harsh? Yeah, sorry.

Can't remember exactly but was his favourite team as a supporter North?
If so, that's where he needs to go so he can finally forget all those easy goals he missed playing for us.

Before we became a good team this year, we were considered a rabble and had been considered a rabble since the early 2000’s. I am sure there are lots of AFL players, who grew up as Carlton supporters, that would have run as far away as they could from playing for Carlton during those times.

Paddy Dow watching old Wayne Carey highlights and years of good North Melbourne football growing up is one thing. Paddy Dow playing for this North Melbourne side is another.

His grandfather was a North player…

His grandfather was a North player…

I didn’t know that. Probably a good reason for his support growing up.

I reckon if Paddy Dow requests to leave Carlton, he could likely nominate Richmond to play with his brother.

If he requests a trade to North at the end of the year I think we just go for it and cop the future second or whatever they are offering. I suspect his trade value will blow out again if he's on the list another year and goes out of contract.

He'd play out at least a couple of seasons there - if he pushes further, great, but he might just be a transitional player while they are trying to steady the ship. Who knows? Maybe being at Carlton has head****ed him and he will actually do well elsewhere.

the McKay brothers have openly stated that they do not want to be on the same team.
would take the minimum amount of thinking to figure this well might have been the case - try to comprehend their lives together as virtual identical twins - I'm tipping the more they can distance themselves in certain areas the better they'd like it.......

Simplest explanation would be that they are both happy where they are and want to kill speculation - even if they might one day like to play in the same side.

I am pretty sure i have heard that. I stand with BluStreak on this one.
Yep, in the lead up to their draft they both stated that they would prefer different clubs.

The pressure on Dow is ridiculous. He comes in to replace Kennedy - clearly not a like for like, and in no way can he do what Kennedy does. His game was fair. Lewis Young was very rusty at the start of the season, and still has his dumb dumb moments, yet because we are so paper thin with our backline stocks, nothing is said about him. Stocker has been average and very rusty but he gets a reprieve. I know Dow has more games under his belt, but some people expect him to come out and annihilate the opposition when he hasn't played a senior. game all year. It's ludicrous.

I don't think that's right.

Simply, if the choice is a fit Dow or a fit Kennedy, Bam Bam wins every day of the year on current exposed form.

Can't play Dow simply for the sake of playing him when there are limited spots.

That's just life sometimes.
