MRP / Trib. Panel set to punish Broughton's slide

For all those with Twitter you can follow @AFLTribunal for the running commentary tonight.

Broughton should get off or if he does cop one week, the AFL needs to be consistent with the rules. Maybe another memo should go out to all clubs and let them know the MRP will ping you for attacks on the ball like Broughts did.
I will personal bombard the AFL Media and Journo's of all instances every week for the rest of the year to make.a point.

Whatley hates us and is clueless - oneeyed Geelong supporter

His credibility peters towards zero. Clearly not 1/2 way b/t Thomas and Goodes as he suggested.

-----

Would like to know what they expect players to do with their legs when they do go low like Broughton did to gather the ball. Idiots the lot of 'em. Mark Fraser. Whateley. MRP. AFL. They can all GGF'ed.

If Broughton goes for that, then the MRP is a complete joke.

What is he supposed to do, slide in head first?

He clearly got to the ball first and Swallow should have gotten out of his way.

I think that's what they like to see now. Players get rewarded for putting their head down and charging directly at the opposition.

Players get rewarded for being second to the ball, sitting on top and pushing the ball under their opponent while pinning their arms, this causing a stoppage which is what the rule was designed to prevent.

Players now get rewarded for finding an opportunity to throw themselves against a player going hard at the ball who has gone to ground to do so.

I suppose the AFL is trying to take the contact out of the game but all they are ending up with is players finding new ways to exploit the rules and putting themselves at risk of injury in the process.

[Comment From Seppo Seppo: ]
I dont't know much about football but it seems he should get off.

Lol, Seppo was that you?

Andrew Tinney tables GC medical report: Swallow suffered left angle injury, high-grade ATFL, ligament strain, awaiting scan results, thought at that stage would miss 1-2 games

Well maybe he shouldn't have played on the rest of the game then

Not that it should matter, Gary Rohan broke his leg!

If GC medical staff are implying Broughton deserves a suspension for causing injury then by logical extension they should also be suspended for sending an injured player out there.

Andrew Tinney said injury was not a freak accident but direct consequence of way Broughton chose to go for football. Knew Swallow was very close but instead of choosing to contest football on his feet chose to go to ground, then led with his feet, secured the football but in the process took out the legs of his opponent

Tinney for AFL: LIndsay Thomas case not a precedent

Aren't lots of players very close in a centre bounce?!

He's gonna get done.

Broughtons defence by a representative about to begin, although it seems pointless as they have already made up their minds.

Obviously precedent isn't allowed because that would force them to treat cases consistently instead of choosing punishments by whether they feel like making an example of someone or not.

The AFL has about as much sporting integrity as the WWE.

In fairness, opposition medical staff always have to present a report and they do so as it is. BUT, they should also have stated that he was good enough to stay on the ground which would be mitigating for Broughts under the circumstances.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!! This is a farce!

Of course it's a farce, when was it ever not a farce? I don't see what the big surprise is.

Also, precedent has never been accepted in the tribunal, why would it be? It would show even more clearly how stupid and inconsistent they are.

 ... in case anybody needs it.

Tribunal chairman on AFL memos on sliding: not part of laws of game, not part of guidelines that form the material which applies to MRP and to Tribunal. Rules and guidelines do not state that sliding is a reportable offence or constitutes rough conduct
