Pass mark for each club in 2013

As I said on the GWS board, we cannot afford to open our 2nd season the way the Suns opened their 2nd season (their final third of the season was pretty good though).

We have to be competitive from round 1, some early 100 pt defeats would be disastrous for the rest of the season.

For me, it's not about wins or avoiding the wooden spoon, it's about competitiveness with a still developing squad.

A pass mark for the Bombers is simply this:

Make the finals, and be competitive in the first week.
This is the bare minimum, any less and there'll be a lot of dissatisfaction and unsettledness at Bomberland.

And fans could be forgiven for wanting more than this considering the position of the club right now.

I wonder what odds you get for Geelong to miss finals? Who are their top line players now besides Selwood and Hawkins?

I don't think you can double two bets of similar type? Given that Haw, Styd, WC, Coll, Ade are seeming shoo ins on these boards, Freo with a good chance also, Cats are one of 5 maybe 8 teams if GC, Port or Bris get about trying for 2 spots. Their draw doesn't help I suspect either.

Might have a flutter, need to find a good multi.

Big pressure on the tigers, bombers, kangaroos and blues. All need to make finals imo and no way they will all make it. Brad Scott, James Hird and hardwick could all be in trouble, don't know who would replace them though if any of those coaches were moved on?

Bartell
Johnson
Enright
Taylor
Kelly
Macintosh and perhaps Caddy

Still pretty good imo, and they have a very even best 22 as well.
A lot of flogs will argue some of those are past it or will be next year. Right or wrong the likelihood of it is equal to the likelihood of guys like Duncan, Christensen and T. Hunt taking their games to another level.

If Duncan or Christensen can get their output up to averaging 25 possessions a game they will join the top teir of midfielders such is the quality of their ball use.

Adelaide- Top 8 is a pass. Top 4 is a bonus. Anything less is a fail. Hopefully they fail.

Brisbane Lions- If I were a Lions supporter, I'd consider anything in the bottom 10 a fail. It's time for Brisbane to step up.

Carlton- The expectation is for them to finish top 4. I don't think they will, but their fans will not be too happy, and rightfully so, if they finish much lower.

Collingwood- Top 2. They're going to have a dynasty soon.

Essendon- You'd think that anything less than top 8 would be a fail. They should have a better run with injuries in 2013.

Fremantle- I'm going to say top 4. Fremantle cannot settle for mediocrity this season. They'll need their big men on the ground though.

Gold Coast- They should be pushing for the upper half of the bottom 10, even pushing for finals. Another repeated horrible season wouldn't be acceptable. They had a heap of injuries this year in 2012, so they should be able to achieve this.

GWS Giants- Avoiding bottom would be ideal, but I think that, with GWS, a pass mark shouldn't be defined by how many wins they have, but the overall improvement of their players.

Geelong- They ought to make the finals, although I don't think they will. If they do, they'd want to give it everything they've got and not lose in an embarrassing fashion like they did against Fremantle.

Hawthorn- This is really the last season for the Hawks to win the flag, and they shouldn't aim for anything less. Having said that, I personally don't think they won't finish top 8.

Melbourne- Like GC, they should be aiming for the upper half of the bottom 10 or even the top 8 itself. Another season of horrendous mediocrity shouldn't be allowed to happen.

North Melbourne- Barring a mountain of injuries, Norf should be challenging for a top 4 position, although any top 8 position would be fine too, as long as they took their game up a notch in the finals.

Port Adelaide- We probably won't have a very good year next year. Not a horrible year, just not great. I'd expect us to be in the top half of the bottom 10, perhaps even pushing for a finals spot (lol). If we're not going to make the finals, then I don't want to see us play mature age plodders over unblooded youngsters in order to win 1 or 2 more games.

Richmond- in the off-season, the Tigers are a top 4 side. In this off-season, I think that it's justified. Richmond should finish top 4. Top 8 would suffice methinks, but they shouldn't settle for it.

St. Kilda- Avoid bottoming out would be ideal. I honestly cannot gauge where St. Kilda will finish next year. Their 2012 wasn't horrible, in fact, if just a few close games went their way, they would have finished significantly higher. Perhaps one last push at the top 8.

Sydney- top 2. as a reigning premier, anything less is a fail.

Western Bulldogs- Bulldogs are shit atm and shouldn't bother counting their 3 or 4 wins and saying "well, that's a pass". They should be looking at their players and seeing how they are improving and how they can improve more.

West Coast- they are a top 4 side. there's a lot of competition at the upper end of the ladder though, so top 8 wouldn't be a fail.

Second year club with so many second year players, yeah we will struggle to win many games this year. I'm thinking the same as this year and then see rapid improvement from 2014.

Anything short of a top 4 is a fail, and would be a huge disappointment for the club.

No team in recent times has had two consecutive years of injuries running deep into the list (possibly Fremantle excepted)

Surprised so many holding high hopes for North and Richmond. A standard run of injury could have them in a bit of trouble.

Don't think there will be too many pats on the back for a 7 - 8 finish at the CFC.

Top 4 is the aim..........................just don't tell anyone.

Top 4 may well be the aim but I don't think the aim is the same as the pass mark.

If we were to finish 5th we would consider the season a 'pass', at the very least.

If I'm right, it looks like you've nominated 12 teams for the 8 as a pass mark.
This seems about right. We're going to have a very entertaining 2013 me thinks.

Brisbane doesn't seem to have a top 8 list yet. If their fans demand that kind of improvement they might be disappointed. I think they will realistically finish 9 - 11.

I don't think it's likely that Richmond will finish top 4. It is possible but fans should settle for top 8 and a promising finals campaign.

If West Coast don't make top 4, that's a fail. They'v e been thereabouts for a little while and they must not stagnate again.

Love your work though mate! :)
