He is our future. Nice pace attack we're building up.

Patto_Man
Cummins
Hazelwood/Starc

Plus Putland, Cutting, McDermot and afew others coming through

Anyone who can take 6 wickets on debut against SA in SA deserves an automatic spot next time he's fit. Yes he needs to show shield form, but I'm guessing the coaching staff can see what hes producing in the nets and it must be decent if hes always in contention after just one game.

I wouldn't pick him until he gets through a season of shield cricket. That goes for Hazelwood as well.

Agree with this post, though I just edited it for the thread.

He wont have much of a career if he continues with his half side on half front on bowling action.

Pretty much is splitting his vertebrae in half

Cummins is an automatic selection because he is an awesome bowler. He doesn't need to perform at Shield cricket to prove that, the reason he needs to play Shield is to build up fitness.

An injured Cummins would have won us the game in Adelaide. We lacked an aggressive fast bowler with variation.

Would of won if Pattinson wasn't Injured

Patto is neither aggressive or has variation. On flat pitches Siddle is a better bowler. On green wickets Patto is a better bowler.

But yes we probably would have won as he would have taken the load of Siddle. But that is not the point. Cummins' talent exceeds the general selection requirements we put on players, he's whats called a teenage prodigy.

If only we had a batsmen equivalent of Cummins, we would not have to worry about Ponting's replacement.

Pattinson not aggressive?? Sorry bud but you've lost all credibility with that comment.

He just bowls the same stuff over and over again. Whenever he tries something new he is made to look ordinary. So he has to stick with that good line and length. If you call that aggressive then I guess you don't know what aggressive fast bowling is.

You need to get your eyes checked mate. I think you've been watching a different James Pattinson to me.

lets look at why they picked him in the first place. it was on the back of 20/20 form and the notion that hilditch and chappell needed something desperate to hang their hat on something. he shouldn't be an automatic pick because he hasn't got the tank and they should over look what ever he doe in 20/20 cricket and realise he can't through 5 days of cricket yet

Only flaw in your argument, he can.

His bowling is more effective at longer forms too, in T20 he has to master the yorker (which he hasn't) and he is wayward most of the time due to the short format, so he can't build up any pressure or rhythm.

He needs to sacrifice T20 for First-Class cricket whenever he can.

so that's why he has broken down twice playing 5 day cricket. shield final and a test match. because he can

his action is a problem. take those blinkers off before you post on here

Excuse me but you need to remember why you made this thread.

Sure most likely he will break down again, but he will win you the match as well.

It is a matter of fitness, not performance.

So how can a bloke break down in a Test match and still win the game for you? Scratching my head over that one (as well as your gay Bigfooty name).

You don't follow cricket very well do you? See his Test match debut. He suffered the ankle problem before the 2nd innings.

then why are you telling us he can get through 5 days of cricket when he can't

Im not at all. You are the one criticizing his selection based on form. He will always be an automatic selection as long as he's fit.

You haters will just have to deal with it.

who said we hate the kid. their were other quicks ahead of him. pattinson, hazelwood, cutting and so on and so forth. he was picked because the selectors that were on their way were just looking out for their own interests and look what has happened since. the kid has played virtually no cricket at all

lol

When I said "he can", I meant he can perform at Test cricket.

His selection was a gamble, but it payed off, he single-handedly won us the match and established himself as a future star. Now he is guaranteed an automatic selection as long as he's fit.

Should've never been picked - was a vanity selection from that w***er Hilditch and that knob Nielsen to try and claim they'd unearthed a gem as their parting gift; to gloss over how shit they'd been. Then we send him out with a busted ankle and give him a jab?

Idiots.

And Quicks under 23 should not be allowed to play Twenty20 Cricket, it doesn't condition the body for extended periods of Cricket, and, as Patto said, puts huge strain on them due to the variations and constant intensity required. Wrap them in cotton wool, keep them away from that mickey mouse shit until they're match-hardened.

Patto and Cummins both have massive potential, and could be a lethal pairing, but it wont matter if they can't get and stay fit.
