When I said "he can", I meant he can perform at Test cricket.

His selection was a gamble, but it payed off, he single-handedly won us the match and established himself as a future star. Now he is guaranteed an automatic selection as long as he's fit.

Hmm, I wouldn't really say that. His 6 for in the second dig was obviously important but in general it was our last innings batting effort that was crucial I'd say.

And no way in the wide bloody world is he an automatic selection when fit, there's no quick in the country that qualifies as this at the moment imo (except perhaps for Patto).

And so you're a Tomic fan hey? Didn't know he had one! :D

Don't judge, he was going well last year :(

Another point I would like to say is injuries are unavoidable for a fast bowler at such a young age. Better he is injured now and not 2 years on from now.

Following on from that point, better to be injured after a Test than after a Shield match. A better contribution at least.

Yeah well he's going to get injured yes. I would say a better idea would be to do a biomechanical analysis (or whatever the **** it's called) and figure out now if he needs to remodel his action, otherwise he'll still be getting injured 2 years from now.

And I'd rather an opening bowler break down for the Vics in a Shield match, not in the Test side that's for sure, the stakes are much higher and you need to be sure you can rely on your bowlers to get through the 5 days.

He just bowls the same stuff over and over again. Whenever he tries something new he is made to look ordinary. So he has to stick with that good line and length. If you call that aggressive then I guess you don't know what aggressive fast bowling is.
You must have hated watching Glenn Mcgrath ey?

Needs to do whatever Dennis Lillee did in 1973 and 1974. No talk of international cricket, full treatment and work his way back through grade cricket.

That's how it should be for any sportsman who's prone to injuries. Another such example is Rafael Nadal. He took a long break starting last year's Wimbledon till the end of the Australian Open this year and then worked his way up playing small clay tournaments. There is no point in rushing a come back and then getting out inured again. Time is on his side, he needs to recover fully before making a comeback. In the meantime stay fit physically, the talent won't go away so soon.

Is Cummins the new Bruce Reid?

And be banned from ever playing one-dayers or T20.

This would make the most sense. Just play cricket and work your way back up.

How realistic thou? Big ask thou he goes from a professional cricketer on thousands of dollars to basically unemployed playing grade cricket with no guarantee of a return. Considering the stone dead markets at the moment the lure of the IPL or get rich quick tournament then looks attractive.

Also if he forgets international cricket for a while and is uncontracted then CA are in no position to tell him what to do.
