Crows traded down thinking cockatoo would be available, didn't think he would crack the top ten. Tried to save face after by claiming they wanted lever the whole time

I was under the assumption that it was the other way around, but I guess we don't know.

Just thought at the time, the trade seemed pointless unless geelong didn't think they'd get there man at 14 or so.

What?

The eagles were always going to take Cockatoo with their pick.

Geelong became that dead set keen on him and traded ahead of the eagles to take him from under their nose

It wasn't pointless for Geelong, they moved from 14 to 10 and got the player they wanted

Crows assumed cockatoo would be available at 14 and got an upgrade on their second pick

Backfired slightly, but they spun it to a positive

They claimed outside run was their priority going into the draft. Cockatoo was a bolter, no one quite knew where he would land

Lever was touted as a possible top 10 selection, only slid a little due to his knee reco, so they're more than happy with how it has worked out

You mean a two time premiership player who we traded to make salary cap room for you guessed it. Comparing Cocky to Travis hahah

Just pointing out the flaw in the argument that the Cats wouldn't entertain the thought of trading a player purely because you gave them the #5 guernsey.

And trading Varcoe didn't free up any salary cap room for Dangerfield, he was traded out to bring Mitch Clark in who would no doubt be on as much, if not more coin than Travis.

Oh but it did create cap space. Varcoe was upwards of 500k as a premiership player. Clark is on a heavily performance based contract (hasn't done much of that in 2015 btw) which would be lucky to be 300k.

I reckon first rounder both years is enough.
You get 10 ish instead of 16ish plus a first rounder next year.
Maybe a player like gregson could be thrown in.
Cant see a player being chucked in, we have to many spots to fill as it is. Gregson signed for a couple years during the year with Cockatoo, this years and next years first rounders will get it done.

You do realise we didn't draft a single player fitting the "outside run" category you speak of... Go back and look at the players we selected - one hbf and the rest were KP/3rd tall types...

Don't pretend to know our drafting strategies, we were all over Lever and Rutten retiring sealed the deal.
