Their midfield is cooked. Danger gone. Thompson is 35. Crouch can't get on the field; who is left? Weak backline. Decent ruck but good forward line.

Cats have a forward built around Hawkins, great midfield with Danger and up and coming backline anchored by AA Q9.
Add in the two first rounders from you blokes and things aren't as bad as you make out. :)

Im sorry "manboob" but you have absolutely zero clue. Adelaide having a weak midfield... pft Sloane who will steal votes from Dangerfield in the brownlow this year, Crouch when he returns will draw comparison to Dangerfield just with a better kick, Thompson still has another good year in him after averaging 26 disposals a game (which was 2 more then any Geelong player), Douglas who was in career best from beating players like Dangerfield in the B&F before being injured and not to mention young guns like M.Crouch and Knight. The Crows defence is also very solid and works a lot better as a group then Geelongs and is only going to continue getting better with the likes of young guns like Laird, Talia, Smith and Lever. Their forward line is also one of the best in the comp so mix that with one of the best Ruckmen going around and i cant possibly see Geelong doing better then Adelaide next season. Not to mention with the extra cap space i wouldn't be surprised if the crows land a big name like Bennell or a young gun like Freeman

Problem with Carlton was everything but that trade. So many of their draft picks didn't come on. Their trades were on the whole crap. Fev blew up. And they got shit coaches.

If they kept Kennedy and used that pick 3, they probably would have spudded up the pick and Kennedy wouldn't be the reigning Coleman medalist.

West coast rarely lose out in trades ...we are a shrewd recruitment team...for his criticisms Trevor Nesbit and recruitment team don't budge ...it was jk or nothing .....

I made the statement that the Judd trade would hurt Carlton and I was scoffed at by blues fans in sportal forums ....We had the last laugh and we are still laughing

I still don't think it hurt them. At least they made some finals with Judd. Without Judd, how much longer are they the laughing stock and how many good players leave?

One thing we know, it turned out well for us. Our decline was inevitable with the issues with Cousins, Kerr's injuries and our lack of a forward line. Losing Judd too dropped us to the bottom and got us some stars. Combined with the fruits of the trade, we are where we are now largely because of it.

Yeah they had to do it .....but they paid overs and traded overs also

For us losing Judd was no biggie ...I,doubt we would have win another flag with him ....

I feel for crows fans and club today ...they've lost truer hope for a flag

Why comment on a team you know nothing about. You say Adelaide have a weak backline? Adelaide has the frameworks of one of the most ominous backlines for the next decade.

Daniel Talia 23, AA key defender, one of the best lock down defender in the game. (Rance is excellent and has more attacking flair.)
Rory Laird 21, named in the AA squad of 40.
Jake Lever 19, arguably the best key defender to come out of last years draft.
Add to that AA Brodie Smith 23 and Luke Brown 23 a really solid small lock down defender.

Our midfield without Danger is not as strong, that is not debatable! But we still have a great quartet in Scott Thompson is 32, Richie Douglas 28, Rory Sloane 25, Brad Crouch 21. Add to that 2 first round draft picks over the next two years from you boys... :) and our next 2 first round draft picks and I'm sure our midfield will be fine.

Danger is worth a strong first round pick 6-12 and a pick 24-30.

He is not really worth more than that due to age (25).

Danger will offer 4 very good years before declining at 29/30. 4 years with a smell of a flag for Geelong is worth a pick 6-12. That player wont be as good as danger based on odds but will play twice as long given he will have 10 years in the system.

The pick 24-30 offsets the risk factor they pick a dud.

Why would Dangerfield decline at 29? I would expect at least 6 good seasons from Dangerfield and he will be able to finish his career as a forward if need be so might be able to drag it out even longer.

I think you're massively overrating draft picks versus proven performance.

Gee I would not want to draft a player in the prime of his career, coming off another All Australian year and another high showing in the Brownlow Medal...

This is one of the most ridiculous posts I've ever read. So much so I had to agree with a Power supporter. On the open market Dangerfield is worth as Melbourne offered last year Pick 2 & 3.

What the Crows will want is one pick between 5-10 and another between 11-15. If you don't think that is a realistic claim, then you need to get your ear-sight checked my friend.

Name players potentially better than Dangerfield in the next 5 years.
1) Nate Fyfe
.....
2) .... Patrick Dangerfield. Geelong are getting a true champion on and off the field!

If he goes into the draft and says he'll only sign with the Cats there would be no good reason for any other club to pick him .Come pick 9 we do. We get Danger. Crows get zilch. That said the most likely scenario is a deal will be negotiated. But there is a risk to the Crows in matching providing Danger makes it abundantly clear to the other Melbourne clubs he won't sign with them.

How did that work out for Nick Stevens?

Lol.

The crows are in their window. If they don't get at least cockatoo, they should blow up the deal. A draft pick that may not pay off for five years may be too late for someone like tex walker or Eddie betts.

I don't really understand the Dees fans getting in a tiz about this. There is no world in which Dangerfield ever plays for them or ever would.

Imagine how much we'd have beaten you by if he did.

Sorry for causing offence there ironman.

Things have changed since Judd style trade. That showed giving up 2 strong picks (pick / Kennedy) is not such a smart move.

What you might be forgetting is that he has already played 2/3 of his best seasons like Judd had. You think what he produces now is what he will produce at 29...Based on odds, delusional. Geelong's recruiters...a lot smarter than you... will bank on 3 years of hot form. They will pay for three years hot form in their trade negotiations. They will hope he produces after that...hope. Judd at 29/30 was no Judd at 24/25.

Treloar (3 years younger) is 'arguably' worth more on the trade table not because he is as good as Danger but because he has more 'peak' years left. I'm not sure if you can understand that. Your Dangervision glasses are blinding you. Danger couldn't make Adelaide win a flag and will only be one of several pieces required to win Geelong a flag.

You need midfield depth not two guns ....who wins in 2020? GWS or gcs ........dogs
No one predicted North and West Coast would be playing off in a prelim 12 months ago, let alone five years ago.

For all we know Geelong could nail the next 3 drafts, grab another two elite talent from Free Agency and then start another dynasty.

Yea, for all we know Melbourne could make the finals within the decade.

The Cats won't mortgage their future to get PD, and nor should they. Cockatoo, for example, will not be leaving.

You don't trade your future for a guy who, while elite, is 25+ and in all likelihood, will struggle to put in another two years as good as 2015. How many players are top 5 for more than 3 years in their career?

PD wants home and that suits us but the club won't be as desperate as any of the Cats/Crows fans on here.

Personally, I am going to remain calm and let it unfold.

Peace

So it's OK for you campaigners to go banging on about the Cats but when the shoe is on the other foot? Your defence has routinely been smashed this year; the end.

Adelaide will bounce back easily from the loss of Dangerfield , they will match the offer and get a huge bounty from the Cats for him.

And if the Cats say "Alright, have the guy who said he doesn't want to play for you anymore" and the Crows get stuck on the line for 800k to a guy who doesn't want to be there? What's to say he doesn't walk away from the game?

The Cats have done a solid job with list management, if you haven't noticed. They're not going to mortgage the future for him.

You continue to miss the point. If Danger says he won't sign with the Blues and is adamant he won't, how would the Blues 'get him'?

Your are kidding aren't you, when you nominate for the draft you do realise what he agrees to don't you?

You do realise what the consequences of that action would be

Was that a serious statement or were you just taking the piss
