This isn't fantasy football where if you select the best 22 footballers you automatically have the best team

This way of thinking is truly high school kick to kick stuff

High school kick to kick stuff is your method of thinking. Using current win/loss ratio in an entirely different year, against entirely different opposition to assume Adelaide are better without Dangerfield... sorry, but that's childs play.
Hawthorn are a harder to beat side without Franklin, Sydney are more predictable with Franklin
An entirely different side an entirely different position.

Dangerfield is one of those individualist players like Franklin or Ablett Snr

Nope he really isn't. Even comparing Franklin to Snr is Naïve on your behalf.

I'm dumbfounded and I assumed you were football knowledgeable.

Then what is your position?

Do you deny that Adelaide have improved?
Improved? Yea they have a new coach, new game plan... Seedsman, one, two or three others... and?

You still assume off the back of this it's all due to Dangerfield leaving? Lol.

The question is not whether they can win a premiership, the question is whether they are a better side

The evidence shows they clearly are

Again, schoolyard logic. Adelaide may have improved this season, but unless you think that adding Dangerfield to this week's side in place of a Reilly O'Brien, David Mackay or Richie Douglas would be a downgrade, your post is just absolute nonsense.

Well it would be a downgrade if he was playing instead of Reilly O'Brien, because then we'd be going in without a ruckman.

You cats fans are the strangest people.

I find this hilarious - this is proof or evidence of absolutely nothing. Why a Saints supporters would be so desperately grasping for straws I have no idea.
Cause grasping for memory of any success they've had in most people's lifetimes yields bupkis.

Thus ,engaging is stuff like this gives their life meaning. And its a little club envy too.

GO Catters

The point he's making that you seem incapable of grasping is that changes to our side between 2015/2016, namely the natural improvement of players like Seedsman, Atkins, Lyons, Hartigan and the Crouch brothers exceeds the benefit that Dangerfield brought to our 2015 side. Does this make us better without him? Not necessarily, but it's also not a definite that he would make us better.

The argument you are putting forward is that we would be better if we had both this improvement and Dangerfield in our side. While that is most probably true, it is possibly a superficial way of looking at things.

Consider that in 2015 and prior to that, we were far too reliant on Dangerfield's explosiveness to win clearances and contested ball for us, and so opposition teams could counter our play by putting a heavy tag onto Danger, as we were lacklustre on the outside by comparison.

Without Dangerfield's inside grunt, Don Pyke and the rest of our coaching team have had to figure out another style in which we can play, namely the fast-paced, slingshot football, combining inside work with more outside play, which has given rise to the recruitment/improvement of players who thrive in this style, such as Seedsman, Brad Crouch and Atkins.

If Dangerfield hadn't left, would we have developed this new gameplan? Hence, would we be better playing the 2015 gameplan with Dangerfield in 2016, expecting natural improvement from youngsters? Would our other midfielders have cohered as well with Dangerfield? Sloane for instance is having the best season of his career without Dangerfield. If, as an analogy, you put the two best individual tennis players in a doubles match, they won't necessarily beat the third and fourth best, because of how these individuals function together as a team. Of course they might, but it's not a definite proposition as you would have us believe.

We can't know of the combined effect of the Crows adopting their 2016 style with Dangerfield in the 2016 side, as they are independent events, so why are you so concerned about dealing with this unknowable hypothetical? Perhaps you are correct and we misused him, or perhaps we did not have the personnel to play our current style last year. It's not a case of you are right and Ian is wrong, or vice versa.

Also, perhaps most importantly, why do you and your fellow supporters (particularly the ones who inhabited our team's board late last year) care so much about Adelaide's fortunes without Dangerfield?

What are we even arguing about here?

Dangerfield is currently the best player in AFL and along with Fyfe probably the most valuable too.
Geelong got a steal with this draft, Adelaide's team is undoubtedly weakened from it.
Dangerfield is an absolute game breaker, his disposals may occasionally lack accuracy (still above average amongst other inside midfielders) but they are penetrating and damaging.

I thought the above statements were established already?

We're not really arguing about anything, Nakia is just trying to spread around the sort of gloating that belongs on the Geelong board in a Dangerfield love thread
Try again. Your supporters assume you're better off without Dangerfield... we'll test that theory out in cut-throat finals football.

Shame this is now part 2.
Saved a lot of Crows posters who exclaimed they'd be better without Dangerfield.

What even is point of this comment... This is both ignorant and unclassy.

Man has been pondering that question since the Internet. Don't mind me I've had a few tonight.

Difference being that both sides were great beforehand whilst the Crows were and still are merely above average.

Average being sides 9-12. So no, they can't win one without PD. Not this year.

Average being sides 9-12... Sorta like the Cats last year, right? Sorta like the average sides your lot had your pants pulled down by this year.. Saints (9th), Pies (12th) and Blues (14th) sides in fact.. and only just got out of jail against an insipid Tigers outfit (13th)... Jeez that's pretty average if you ask me, how many champion teams lose that many games to pus in a single year? Especially teams with the single greatest player in the game?

On that basis, how can the almighty Cats claim to be anything more than "merely above average" ??

We haven't lost to a bottom 8 team all year... In fact not since Walshy passed away.. even after losing the almighty messiah, best player in the universe with a draw that made yours look like a walk in the park.

But I guess we're only merely above average

Glad we cleared that up :thumbsu:

P.S. We may have lost to 3 average sides, but at least we didn't shit the bed... At home... With top 2 up for grabs

Oh dear, you really are a pathetic little troll aren't you?

Got slayed so look for the most juvenile way to respond in a thinly veiled attempt to keep your dignity intact. Whatever helps you sleep at night buddy, or makes you feel better about that abomination who stares back at you in the mirror :drunk:

Shitting the bed would in fact be the case if we hadn't lost to the form team of the comp, off multiple 6 day breaks, including a showdown, and another where we couldn't even warm down before shotgunning it out of Perth - a circumstance that's never happened in footy, ever.

Were you at either game? Did you bare witness to how utterly spent we were from the 3rd qtr of the Showdown, or from the word go against a team who had just consecutively demolished the greatest team of all time, and GWS on their home turf...

And if you had half a brain you would realise even if we had won, we still would have finished 3rd due to your boys having a virtual bye to round the year out.. Wonderful try though, keep up the abysmal work, you'll make sense one day :thumbsu:

Run along now buttercup, spend the night trying to come up with a response that displays even a slight degree of intelligence and objectivity ;)

Nothing really to debate when in your attempts to call me out over a comment from the previous incarnation you took me out of context. What were you saying about intelligence again....

The context was that when Ablett left Geelong (2010) and Buddy left Hawthorn (2013) both sides were great. The Geelong 2007-11 side was great as has this Hawthorn side proved to be.
The premise of the argument being that those sides them were able to win a flag without their best player because they were at the time a great side. Adelaide circa 2015 was not and as such is why the following season would not and will not win the premiership with its best player now departed.

This as much as it may which you has nothing to do with Geelong 2015 and 2016. We merely only need to be above average to win the flag this year, as do all other contenders as there is no stand out team. Being above average looks like being good enough.

Nice melt though ;)

I didn't take you out of context at all, I merely debated your ill-conceived notion of us being merely above average.

Perhaps respond in English next time, your post is barely legible.. What were you saying about intelligence again?

The fact you are basing your entire argument on a scenario that has not even taken place yet (to quote you "why the following season would not and will not win the premiership with its best player now departed.") just shows how much you're scraping the barrel. Teams less talented than those Geelong and Hawthorn teams you mentioned have won Premierships (multiple, back to back premierships in fact) without their best players on the park.. Go back and check the history books you might learn a thing or two.

That last paragraph is illegible, again, in English next time.

Not ill conceived. You are above average.
Teams less talented have indeed won premierships. Adelaide in 2016 will not be one of them.

Quite simply because beating NM which you should do secures an away semi in Sydney. If you fluke an upset win you then play on the MCG against either Geelong or Hawthorn who both have your measure.

You would want to be right about that.......

Have Adelaide ever beaten a Sydney team in Sydney in a final against all odds... Yes, emphatically.

Have Adelaide ever beaten Hawks at the MCG in a final.. Yes, emphatically.

Have Adelaide ever beaten Geelong in a final.. Yes, we have.

I absolutely salivate at the prospect of facing Geelong at the MCG in a prelim, you won't have the narrow wings of AO or that backwater, shit-tip, cow paddock you call a "home ground" to suffocate our rapid transition, end to end style. I can't wait to play your lot at the MCG.. Using your logic, lesser teams than us have beaten your almighty heroes there this year ;)

Furthermore, we'll expose the mediocrity that is your list/underbelly. You are nothing more than a fading superpower, previously built on the back of F/S selections (a privilege we've never been afforded) who are since long gone. A club who have sacrificed any possibility of sustained success for the next decade by blatantly piling all your eggs in the PD basket, not to mention the others you poached last year. A club who now relies on key forwards like Kersten for example, that's your future.. :drunk:

We'll have a chat in another 3-5 years time and see where our lists are at... I can guarantee you, you won't be the one smiling. Without your great white hope PD in a few years your list is going to look pretty damn abysmal. I hope you have a brilliant succession plan, you don't appear to have one now considering how much you rely on him, its sickening how obvious it is.

We've lost one in our last 6 at the 'G btw... The opponents, the Hawks by 3 points... HARDLY says they have our measure. They only scraped in by 5 points against us in a prelim at you guessed it - the same MCG. The same ground we had smashed them at in a final in the past, after losing both games to them during the home and away season. The same ground we beat NM at in a GF, after losing to them TWICE in a season..

You obviously haven't been watching footy long enough to understand that anything that happens pre-September 1 means nothing for finalists. Your argument is completely irrelevant.

But keep polishing that crystal ball of yours, almighty oracle
