Has to be Cockatoo and their first rounder or something along those lines

I agree. They can carve up "two first rounders" in lots of different ways, but it is in that ballpark.

I know Adelaide supporters want more and Geelong less, so it must be close to right.

Personally, I'd like steak knives as well - a Murdoch, say. I think that's what AFC will be asking for.

I think the only other way would be to try running a trade deal past Ken Woods and see if he agrees, and the flow-on could be Adelaide not matching. It just needs to really stand up. Instead of two firsts for Danger, Geelong may rather do a first and Murdoch for Mackay and get Danger as a free agent.

Another slant on the trades + players theme:

ADEL: Cat's 1st round, 2015, 2016 + Murdoch
CATS: Danger + one of: Lyon, Grigg, Kedge (apprehensive to give Kedge away but if he's not going to get a game at AFC...)

Or...

ADEL:Cat's 1st round, 2015, 2016 + Cockatoo
CATS: Danger + CEY

Problems: Cats have enough inside, slower mids already, so difficult to see them valuing Lyon, CEY, Grigg. Kedge on the other hand, i rate, obviously much higher than AFC selectors. Handy player that can tag, go forward, on-ball. Injury prone but elite fitness if you can get him right. Also Cats 98% unlikely to part with Cockatoo but Danger + CEY is paying overs AFC for Murdoch imo.

Adelaide are in an exceptionally strong position on this trade FFS PD turned down a 10 million deal to go to another Victorian club he is desperate to get to Geeling and Geelong only if a deal can't be reached he hits the PSD. If he wasn't so intent on getting to one location we would be under pressure to actually lose some ground

Geelong would be mad to give up Cockatoo, and quite frankly I can't see it happening. It's not in Adelaide's best interest to have Paddy go to the draft, so they're going to have to bend a little in the deal. Not demand an outrageous price, and shoot themselves in the foot. Both clubs are far more sensible than what their supporters seem to be, so I expect an equitable deal to be done.

You can't just get potential Brownlow medalist for nothing

Depending on what draft picks are on offer will determine the quality of the player but agree Geelong will have a number of untouchables which is fair enough and you would think he is one

I don't see any way he'll go to the draft if his management is smart. They'll hold off signing anything, if it doesn't look like Geelong and Adelaide are going to come to a deal Dangerfield will end up at his next preferred club that can get a deal done.

On this talk that there's 0% chance of any contracted Geelong players being involved in a trade for Dangerfield, particularly any players who have re-signed with the Cats this year..

Obviously contracted players are traded all the time, although of course any move hinges on (a) the value the existing club places on their player relative to the one they hope to bring in and (b) the player in question giving their consent to the deal. Whether that's an issue or not depends on the player and their determination to stay at their existing club.

With respect to the latter point, I thought I'd have a look back and see if I could find any examples of players being traded in the same year that they signed a contract with their previous club, and funnily enough this was one of the first to pop up:

"In 2007 Kennedy committed to a new 2 year contract with the Carlton Football Club. However on 11 October, it was announced that he had agreed to return to his native state and play for the West Coast Eagles,[10] thus enabling Carlton to secure the services of top midfielder Chris Judd in a trade."

Further, reports at the time were that Kennedy himself was initially reluctant to leave Carlton and it was only after West Coast contacted him directly and sold the club to him that he agreed to be part of the trade.

As in any trade; money, lifestyle, opportunity and success will all play a role in the decision for a contracted player. Who knows, maybe the Crows turn around to Cockatoo/Gregson/Lang etc, offer them 30% more than Geelong are willing to offer them, and despite not being unhappy at Geelong they become quite amicable to the idea of a move.

Is it unlikely that contracted players will be involved in the deal? Yes. Would they all be untouchable and unequivocally off the table? I wouldn't have thought so, certainly not when a player of Dangerfield's calibre is the payoff for Geelong. Certainly worth discussing in here because I'm sure it'll come up in conversation between David Noble, Stephen Wells and their respective teams at some stage during negotiations.

All it needs to be is a normal fair trade that happens 20 times during trade week. We are not looking for Hawkins, Selwood, Motlop and your next two first rounders.
I agree, and that's been my point all along. But some people seem to think we should have to trade like that to get him. I've said several times now that I think both clubs will do a fair deal between each other.

What you fail to understand is that danger is useless to us without a strong squad
So by giving up 3 players we are weaker and it's not in our best interest
There will be no trade, so you crowbots should get ready
Danger offer will not get matched

Just because computer warriors say they should doesn't mean it happens

There is a reason why gill knows about the danger situation

You changed your prediction yet?

Here's a sneaky deal - Adelaide doesn't stop Paddy and gets pick 13 as compo. Then we trade pick 9 for one of Adelaide's fringe players. You end up with picks 9, 12, 13. We end up with Paddy and a fringe player from the crows.

So Geelong get Dangerfield AND a fringe player for pick 9? Nice try :thumbsu:

I would say those two you mentioned and picks may be an acceptable option. Like I said every club has untouchables which can't and will not be brought into the equation

It will get done in draft picks and one player. Geelong won't trade multiple AFL standard players, with retirements they don't have enough of those in the cupboard. I don't think too many Geelong supporters would hurt about throwing Murdoch in so he is not going to be enough. Gregson is the guy shaping to be the modern day Moloney. Supporters would kick up more about him. The sneaky player the crows should have a look at is Gore, I'd roll the dice on him before your Murdoch and GHS types.

The draft is a worse outcome for Danger than it is for Adelaide. No way he risks the draft which means Adelaide has a good hand. If Geelong dont cough up The Hawks or the Pies will and Danger will go to his second preference rather than run the Brisbane/Carlton/Melbourne draft gauntlet. Which means of course Geelong will pony up.

I'll let this scenario play out then come back after it's all done and admit I was wrong and give you all a pat on the back if the Crows match the offer. ;)

The Crows have no idea what the offer is, and like I said, it's not only impossible, they're clutching at straws as a result of media speculation.
I had no idea Steve Hocking posted on BF, hi Steve.
