He will be fine.
Has had a mixed start 5 games in but the signs are good on wha we have seen.
Will get better as he plays more games
Looks a good average player. Hes exceeded my expectations so far. Anyone who thought the Dogs were playing Patty Cripps in their ressies and then traded him for a lowly pick... Mammamia

He is no star and was never going to be. But right now, he is in our best 22 and in the age bracket we lack.
He gets his 20+ disposals a game and a few clearances. Not sure what else we can expect trading for a guy with a 3rd round pick.

Expectations were obviously set very high after his first 30 disposal game.
Along with all the hype he got prior to getting him to the club. He is actually just a good ordinary player.

we paid two first rounders for A.T v pick 43 for Lippa. Early days but he will be serviceable and came for free really.
Serviceable players don't win premierships. They just help make up the numbers. We have a plethora of serviceable and slightly less than serviceable players. This is all too obvious when we have a couple of players out injured and we appear to be scraping the bottom of the barrel finding replacements.

Have a good look at the list in the VFL. You cant fix a squad in one summer. He should be playing, end of story. You gonna replace him with some hack with less upside and claim it us a good call because they are two years younger. Strange

I wasn't suggesting replacing him. I am simply saying he is no more than serviceable and is unlikely to play a pivotal role in establishing a winning midfield group.

This is just completely incorrect.

Look at the 2010 list

Plenty of serviceable players and ‘duds’ on that

22 disposals at 77%, 3 tackles, 5 inside 50s, 4 clearances, 270m gained… from 72% match time

How are people meh about this? It’s a solid contribution against a top 4 team
Stats are awesome if you're into fantasy Football....

The real issue here isn't Lippa's ability.

It's the long-term state of our midfield. We've been blessed with one of the best midfields for over a decade, which becomes pretty easy to take for granted after a while. Now with Pendlebury and Sidebottom in the twilight of their careers, a chunk of our midfields hopes lie with bunch of mostly mid-draft kids, some defenders/forwards who can rotate in for patches and an extremely tough inside mid with an elite work rate and a poor kick. Plus one genuinely elite kid and his big brother who is becoming far more than handy on a wing.

It's a long way from the heady days of having multiple AA worthy midfielders playing together.

Not all of this crop of kids we've drafted will make it. What's worrying is that we need to A. come up with enough draft capital to target elite junior mids and the develop them and/or B. look to free agency when we're still feeling the pain of the clearance sale debacle. All these options mean at least a modicum of long term pain before true gain, from what I can see.

Lippa isn't a symptom of all that. He isn't a superstar but he's good enough to be a part of the solution, he's a good age and is a model pro. The problem lies in who will be playing alongside him in about four years from now.

Great post Dynamo.

I still miss Dane Swan.

Who is our next Gen midfield?
I realise the temptation to say Nic Daicos, but I think I want him ultimately pushing forward and hitting the scoreboard.
Dare we build around degoey?
I don’t yet see it in Macrae.
McInnes I am hopeful.
Can Bianco be a Licuria? I think that’s just hope.

I find I think about key position deficiencies so much that I neglect to think about the future of our mids.

I agree, Lippa has a role in the mix. But i feel we are turning a great outside player into an inside player as we have tried with Sidey.

Nick Daicos is definitely a midfielder. He is 100% a natural midfielder. His ability to accumulate and make good decisions by both hand and foot should not be up forward, it belongs in the middle.

Daicos, De Goey, McInnes and Lippa are good. I reckon some of the other kids will be handy in the middle too, namely Macrae, Draper and Poulter. Josh Daicos is already a top shelf wingman. We need another inside bull, that's for sure

nope, I didnt. You were pretty emphatic. At 23 he is not young enough and should fill gaps only. However, I and many others think he is in our best 22 for a few years and pumping games into kids with less ceiling isnt the right option.
Most important of all the others, seemingly the coaches and list management staff think so too.

You could very well end up correct but I dont underestimate the importance B grade players can make as the classy players develop and also once those classy players become elite, you need serviceable players. For our list, I view him as someone who can be a positive influence on the young draftees over the next few drafts as we search for some elite mids. Optimistic but hoping he becomes Scott Burns type of ranking, above average but not elite.
