Was there any light at he end of the tunnel in regards to the small forwards?
They were out soft spot on Saturday night at AO.
Freddy may have made a difference, but we need some small forwards to come to the fore.
Tabs will be back at Peel this week, but he is not a need for us.

Jones of EP ruck (ex-Freo) after his knee injury can't do much except stand like a statue and try to hold off the oppo rucks and Max was able to jump over the top of him.
He got 52 in reserves the week before. The kid is a good Ruckman and was as a junior as well. He doesn't need to be playing reserves for Peel and he shouldn't be dismissed because he is more Nankervis/Darcy than Stanley/Jackson.

He seems a pretty good prospect to me but he'll be 24/25 before he's an AFL player IMO. I hope they dont keep dumping him at reserves though. Seems a complete waste of time

I said in an earlier post Knobel had a great leap, more a case of him taking advantage of his assets vs Jones. During the pre-season one of the assistant coaches interviewed (I think it was Corey) when asked the perennial question of who is looking good on the training track named Max as one of the rapid improvers over the summer.

My thoughts are this:

We have two genuine rucks - Knobel and Darcy and two decent second rucks - Treacy and The Unicorn.

Knobel needs to play league footy
IMO Reidy is surplus to requirements. He should be traded or delisted.

In two or three years we can draft another young ruck

Cooper Simpson didn’t play. Delearn didn’t really set world on fire (10 possessions, 0 tackles, 0 goals). He is way too raw for mine to debut anytime soon. Got some tricks and has taken a few almost hangers.

Cooper missed due to illness. He has also suffered injuries in his first two games. He pushed on through on both occasions but for mine was hampered. A breakout WAFL game and he will be in the mix. Otherwise nothing new I’m afraid.

I like Ethan Stanley though. Get him up and running on the other wing to Aharp very soon I hope.

Yes I’ve been quietly bull-ish on Stanley for a while. No particular insight just like the attributes he’s shown & the cut of his jibe.

Once we have a proper partner for Sharp, Chapman back, Darcy back & Dogga down forward we’ll start seeing what we’ve really got.

Hopefully Walters is just in a slump & hasn’t fallen off the cliff & we get Simpson or even Erasmus as a half forward.

I did even have the thought of leaving Treacy as 2nd ruck as it gets him into the game more and playing Jackson on a wing. He can run into the center at bounces to get involved while Sharp stays wide. Imagine him running back into defense to intercept & running forward to take marks inside 50 rather than being stationed forward. Such a nightmare matchup for opponents & I think he needs a roaming role to contest stoppage everywhere.

Amiss & Treacy can do the leadup role & maybe even Sturt if he ever gets back as he’s a smart leader & can slot them from anywhere.

Noddy was playing OK yesterday until he got injured and didnt come back after half time (still dont know what the injury was/is), his body keeps let him down not his attack on the ball
If you are a 21 year old who missed 6 weeks of sport due to a blood clot in your knee joint, that seemingly can't be explained except for bad luck from a knock to your knee, I think that would dent most people's capacity to play contact sport.

Snuffaluphagus and I specifically talked him up as Judd level last year so he better start delivering to save our blushes.

I get the impression Hawthorn will rue not taking him with their first selection in MSD.

He is a power athlete. Shake off the rustiness from a disrupted PS and let’s get him on the Wing.

Would love to see a list of all the players compared to Chris Judd by various AFL fans over the last 20 years.
Would make for hilarious reading
I remember Beau Muston famously being called the next Chris Judd by the famous draft watcher Colin Wisbey in 2005.....

But in the end, Judd himself was described as the 6-foot-tall Peter Matera....

And Peter Matera was the reincarnation of Robbie Flower.....

We could have a three way ruck rotation…Darcy rotating onto the bench

Judd? Surely you jest
Not Judd but we’ve been huge on him since day dot. I’m convinced there is a very good AFL player there and it sucks he was injured for half the preseason and start of the year. Like Draper, just had AFL traits.

I’m going to be very annoyed if we can’t turn him into a player or lose him this year

Never forget that game Matera played in the GF in 92. I didn't watch much footy at that point and I didn't hate the Eagles, was just mostly indifferent to them but I loved watching some of their players - Kemp was just lovely to watch, the precision of McKenna off half back and even Worsfold was good value when he put some of the big Vics like Dermie on their asses. I loved Mainwaring (knew him personally) and Heady was good to watch.

But Matera was something else that day. Just one of the great individual games of football.

One of my strongest memories as a kid. I was 10, Matera streaming down that wing and kicking goals was just magic. I still have a footy signed by him at Mum’s.

I was a kid (teenager) at the time and naively thought all the south’s and easts boys would want to come to play for Freo once we got a team. Nearly the entire spine of the 91 eagles team were from South’s (my team) Worsfold, Jackovich, Irving, Sumich. Plus Matera on the wing. I was sure we’d take the comp by the scruff of the neck and throttle it. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be, they’d all been Malthouse’d into the us vs them mentality which extended to Freo.

I think Knobel could be one of the best from the next gen.
Time he is 22-23 if he is not at Freo we will be gutted.
That is great recruiting. Right now we are mucking up structurally due to not having a first ruck ready to come in. Darcy is a match winner, but he hasn't won any form ya this season. Knobel should back himself.

I really rate Knobel, you wonder why we bothered flying Reidy to Adelaide if he wasn’t playing. I anticipate it was a good chance to see Knobel as the first ruck and he acquitted himself well.

I think they should both be playing WAFL seniors. Reidy learning more forward craft would be valuable.
