We should be aiming for premierships, we were well and truly capable of that this year. Every year there should be 17 disappointed clubs. Pride suggests we are happy with what we achieved which is nothing. Carlton and their loser mentality would be proud of what they achieved because they are pathetic.
Just because you follow the Black and White, doesn’t mean your attitude to life requires the same stark contrast.

It definitely was a great season despite not winning the GF.

You say that Franklin was playing too far from goal so Moore went to Reid who spent much of his time upfield in the ruck? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. In the second half, Murphy seemed to quieten Franklin after the latter had proven too tall for Maynard.

I can't believe how well Hickey played against our rucks. Reid was always going to be a significant force in the ruck, but Hickey made Cameron look third rate in the ruck. This was an area of the game in which I thought Cox would give us an advantage. We were fortunate that Reid had to be replaced due to injury. Unsurprisingly we were more competitive once he was gone, perhaps also due to Kreuger replacing Cox and injecting some venom into the contests.
Hickey is in the top 5 rucks in the game and he cost the swans a packet of chips. Grundy cost us a million a year and wouldn’t make the top 5 rucks on his last 2 years.
Good serviceable ruckman are available cheaply every year and smart teams use them to compliment their team not build a team around a ruck on a million a year.
We need to rectify this.

It was a magnificent season but the reality is footy is all about bragging rights when it all boils down. We are the best, We won the flag. We have the most flags, the biggest membership etc.... It's hard to feel comforted by the many euphoric moments because nobody outside of our club gives a stuff. We won't impress too many by recalling a round 14 home and away game in a couple of years when Geelong or Sydney have won two more premierships or Richmond pop up and grab their fourth in six or so years.

I don't care much what others think of Collingwood but my Richmond/Carlton/Melbourne supporting mates are full of respect for how we played this year.

I understand your point about premierships being the ultimate bragging right, I'd love a few more.

There is still a lot of hatred out there. I deserve what I get by venturing onto opposition boards at a time like this but I find their genuine vitriolic hatred more comforting than the respect you talk of. I love what Fly has done but I don't want to become everyone's second team or have them wishing us success. I want to be a ruthless club who win when it matters. I think Fly has the same objective.

David King and Kane Cornes are always calling us brave and admirable but basically think we are lucky and not good enough despite our finals performance. That patronizing shit makes me feel sick.

When you are bragging do you keep it quiet that you can’t watch televised games?

Nope. Why? I'm not embarrassed to say I am so emotionally engaged with my team I struggle to watch them on on tv. Why are so many posters obsessed with my way of coping and what does it have to do with my passion for the club? I've watched hundreds of games live and attended many of them on crutches for a number of years. I don't usually brag about that but I am quite proud of the fact that I kept turning up on one leg. There were no lifts or escalators back in those days either.

I hate Geelong without a doubt and seeing dangerflog, duck wood and the rest of their smug team with a cup in their hands will make me puke but at the same time seeing flog papley with a medal and cup makes me more sick. Undecided who I want to win but have no interest in watching it

Papley was unbearable yesterday from a Collingwood standpoint but if he was in our team we would all absolutely love him similar player to Toby Green.
Has got a good game and mongrel in him, what’s not to like?

Hope he gets Geelong a new one next week.

Been banging on about this for many moons , rucks have minimal influence on games , unless you are in the Gawn , Dempsey , Simon Madden , Moore bracket of class , give me a classy mid or power forward as a $million dollar a year marquee player who impacts the outcome of a match consistently , the day Grundy is off our books , will be a day of great joy as the shackles of monetary burden is removed from the neck of our Club , we will breathe freely again.

It's impossible not to feel twangs of anguish about micro-decisions that could have changed the outcome.

Jack Crisp, arguably the best player on the ground, when he did the instinctive thing at the last stoppage with 15 seconds on the clock and turned to his right so that he could snap it on his left boot (and the ball dribbled to the top of the goal square)... if he had have turned left instead of right, he had Nick Daicos on his own, and could have snapped a goal from 25 out. I don't blame Crisp in any way, in the moment he did the right thing to just try to get it on the boot... but like I said, micro-decisions.

Band aid and rookie list type key forwards are not the answer.

Richmond and Geelong already had a gun Key forward before they added a second one with Lynch and Cameron.
We cannot even get one.

Mcstay is not the answer. I’m speechless at his recruitment.

We need to focus a tonne of effort into getting Ben King or a similar status gun key forward. Maybe Naughton who we should have targeted in Stephenson‘s draft.

Until this happens we are hoping for miracles.

McCrae’s on the job, and therefore the club is in good hands.

That’s the only comfort we have, everything else is beyond our influence or control.

We’re just along for the ride.

The what ifness of micro moments and how our lives might be different is a universal constant for Pies fans.

We survive despite it and look forward to the sunny uplands of a dynasty under Fly

Like Daicos kicking OOTF with scores tied, two minutes to go v Cats.
One point would likely have been enough.

I go and have gone to games for decades but also find it difficult to watch games at home. I had a specially made foot stool (short young kid) that I took to games at Vic Park.

At the ground I watch for matchups, interchange bench, look at positioning of players before and after the ball.

TV cameras and commentators don't give me what I look for in a game.

At home and if the game is tight, I can't watch but fortunately watch with friends and their cheers or groans keep me involved and go back and watch with them if the cheers are more than the groans.

Rarely watch replay of a loss.

Mrs Side is partial to anger-ironing when we are getting thumped. Her passive-aggressive unseen message to the team is, “you are going so sh1t, I would rather iron than watch”.

I have also done that in previous years and amazing how much you get through. Very therapeutic.:)

A measure of this year’s success is the substantial pile in the laundry. All I have to is point that out and someone will end today’s pain for me.

My mother claimed my father would go and prune stuff, chop down trees etc - her Irish exaggeration lives on in family folklore

The history of the Collingwood Football Club in Finals reads like a Greek Tragedy.... However, how many supporters truly believed we would actually make the 8? I wouldn't change this year for anything... With many deficiencies and less talent than the top teams Fly and his team proved their game plan and process stacks up against the best teams. With some astute recruiting to fill the deficiencies hopefully we come back bigger and better next year.

Fly has restored the love and pride a lot of us have in our club. His press conferences have been a breath of fresh air to what we have witnessed over the past 20 years from gnarly and vindictive to the repetitive. It has been wonderful year where the Board and the President has been neither seen or heard...

Despite the outcome I wouldn't change this year for anything. The club is relevant again without the arrogance

I am going to zig here, in all the time I have followed Collingwood we have had the best side in 3 of those years (can clearly recall from about 1973), 1990, 2010 and 2011 and we won 2 of those flags. For most of the other years we weren't even top 5 best side yet made the grand final many times. Shows our heart, just like this year.

This season was my favourite of all the years I have followed Collingwood, even the premiership years, I dont look at yesterday as a failure. I look at it as we played our of our skins way above ourselves and almost won it. It was heroic and i love this team so much.

Next year will be a lot harder task to maintain our position given our game plan will be analysed inside and out by the other coaches but i have faith. Macrae has shown us what we can do, and we can do it again!!

Go Pies!

Problem is most of these gun key forwards never pick us. I’m not keen on mcstay either but by the looks of it with our tight salary cap and the fact that we can’t seem to attract key forwards I guess it’s better then nothing

A good TV commentary would quickly give you the major matchups before the first bounce - Ch 7 didn't yesterday other than to mention after the bounce that Maynard had started in the middle. There was lots of pre game speculation as to who was matching up Buddy, Reid etc that I'd have thought a commentator worth his money would be ready with those details the moment the teams move into position for the bounce. Then the match ups should be updated the moment they change. Eventually the viewer is told much of this stuff, but not before their heads have been filled with also sorts of nonsense that doesn't really add to the viewing experience.

Our game plan is really simple but hard to coach against and we execute it really well, good luck to sides trying counter it in the future, especially after we add a few more list needs over summer

Other teams can analyse our game plan all they like - good luck to them.

They will find it much harder (impossible) to analyse the spirit, pride and will to win that Fly has instilled.
