I am going to zig here, in all the time I have followed Collingwood we have had the best side in 3 of those years (can clearly recall from about 1973), 1990, 2010 and 2011 and we won 2 of those flags. For most of the other years we weren't even top 5 best side yet made the grand final many times. Shows our heart, just like this year.

This season was my favourite of all the years I have followed Collingwood, even the premiership years, I dont look at yesterday as a failure. I look at it as we played our of our skins way above ourselves and almost won it. It was heroic and i love this team so much.

Next year will be a lot harder task to maintain our position given our game plan will be analysed inside and out by the other coaches but i have faith. Macrae has shown us what we can do, and we can do it again!!

Go Pies!
We were the best side in 1970.

Some say we have failed because we haven't gone on to win that shiny cup.
Others say we've had a great season and fallen just short.
I'm a bit of both.
The really disappointing ones are years like 1970 & 2011 where we should probably have won.
Only one team can claim the ultimate prize in any given year, so there are 17 that have missed out.
On the other hand we have gone from 17th to top 4, and played exciting footy that's great to watch.
So much more to enjoy than last year.
So we accept the negatives & savour the positives.

We're in good hands with Fly.
I'm looking forward to what he'll come up with next year, because he won't be a one trick pony.

It was a magnificent season but the reality is footy is all about bragging rights when it all boils down. We are the best, We won the flag. We have the most flags, the biggest membership etc.... It's hard to feel comforted by the many euphoric moments because nobody outside of our club gives a stuff. We won't impress too many by recalling a round 14 home and away game in a couple of years when Geelong or Sydney have won two more premierships or Richmond pop up and grab their fourth in six or so years.

well domie, I would have been happy over the last handfull of decades for the club to do its best, not only the players but the support crew and the adminstration. I would say that if that had happened, we would be bragging about more premierships.

Good post.

Carlton developed a losing mentality cause they tanked for a few years in order to get early draft picks. Where McRae wanted to win from the get go. That's a winning mentality and why we should be proud.

Band aid and rookie list type key forwards are not the answer.

Richmond and Geelong already had a gun Key forward before they added a second one with Lynch and Cameron.
We cannot even get one.

Mcstay is not the answer. I’m speechless at his recruitment.

We need to focus a tonne of effort into getting Ben King or a similar status gun key forward. Maybe Naughton who we should have targeted in Stephenson‘s draft.

Until this happens we are hoping for miracles.
We simply don't have the draft capital or salary cap to afford one because of the choices we have made in the previous administration. And if Grundy doesn't leave we won't have for the next 5 years.

5 years people that is what the Grundy situation is costing us, having to crawl towards a properly balanced list is 5 years away because of his contract.

According to Caro, the Collingwood board was split on the Grundy contract, half of them wanted to trade Grundy rather than pay that exorbitant amount of money.

How exactly does Caro know how the Board votes on this or any other issue?

I have been a BF member since 2010 and I can't recall ever going to an opposition thread to troll.

What pleasure they get is hard for me to understand, don't see the point knowing the hurt they must be feeling.

What a sad lot.
I'm the same. I don't see the point of going to another board and kicking someone I don't even know. I don't see where the enjoyment is. The supporters didn't actually play the game, why bash em?

So proud of our club last night, but I'm in mourning today for the un-played GF we had stolen from us.
The missed shots and turnovers, the hand passes that did not quite get there, the switch which was intercepted.
All these things are part of the game. No side is perfect. Sydney had their clangers when we bought the heat.

But the unpaid push in the back against Papley, the untacken mark paid to Papley and the resultant goal are nothing but incompetence on behalf of the umpire.
There is no suitable mechanism to punish these campaigners.

I wish for him abject misery and total failure for the rest of his life.

Picking between Geelong and the Swans is like having to choose between syphilis or herpes.

Neither, thanks. Perhaps Swans if there were no Papley / Buddy flogs.

Not sure I'll even watch it.
Just hope that the winner gets done for salary cap rotting and then has the cup taken off them with history books only recording an * ala NRL and Melbourne Storm- then everyone wins in 2022!

Had quite a few generic Facey ’Pies lose by a point’ posts pop up today. Funnily enough a lot of Carlton people involved, weird to try and troll a side with such heart and never give in attributes when your a clueless tanking rabble that can’t even make finals.

It is a list management "football" decision. I really really really hope that the board has NO impact on this decision. With de goey they might argue the "brand". THey might argue the appeal of the club to women. Not how good a player he is.

Wilson is going to make broad sweeping statements to make out that she is relevant. I would hope that the board isnt talking to her....

When will the AFL world see her for what she is? - A muck-raking gossip with no idea how to analyse a game of football.

Be surprised if she has any idea how the Board votes on anything.

Geelong beat Collingwood 3 times in 2011. The correct team won that flag.

Yeah???

What's your opinion of Malthouse leaving an obviously injured Ried (who could barely limp let alone run) on a Rampaging Hawkins when he had Chris Tarrant who could easily be switched.

You got gifted a GF by a vindictive old man who only wanted to cause his own club grief and heartache.

Carlton fans are so broken by the events of Round 23 they're looking for any way to get back at us. That warms the heart.

The difference is we have respect from the AFL world, even if opposition fans hate us.

No one respects Carlton. They only had success off the back of cheating. They've been a laughing stock for years and will remain so.

Geelong won the gf by 38 points. After Podsiadly (probably our #1 key forward) busted his shoulder and was subbed out in the second qtr. it was close for 3 qtrs and then it was a demolition in the last when the game was on the line.

Geelong won the other 2 games against Collingwood that year, including a 96 point thrashing.

That is about as comprehensive a year-long beating of 1 team over another as it gets.

But yeah, it was all due to your coach trying to lose.
