Now that the trade period has finished, we turn our attention to the draft.

So, I thought I would ask the great minds of our board and devotees of the under 18 system to come up with some realistic options of who we might be likely to draft with our first pick.

Lets assume for argument purposes that we are drafting next best available with our first pick rather than drafting for needs.

Any ideas, options or guesses to be discussed all welcome :)

With Libba (who looks like a real player) and Wallis coming in next year I think we should take Talia if available. Don't need another KPF, but I think we'll take Talia or the best available (a possible slider?)

Robbie Hicks might be worth a look, but I'm just going on draft camp news might be available at 15 and we would need a crumbing forward thats good on both sides of the body

Two words. Ben Griffiths. Enormous, strong bodied, KPFs don't come around too often, and with 'injury worries' on him, will almost certainly slip to our pick. Besides which, he is the perfect replacement for BBB in a few years time. With Grant leading out of the goal-square, Jones at CHF, and Griffiths as the monster target down there, we could have a forward set-up as potent as Adelaide, Hawthorn and Brisbane in a few years time. Also, as our draft picks in previous years have shown us - particularly with KPPs - kids aren't guaranteed to make it. Better to have overkill than underkill imo. We should never assume that all our 18 year olds will eventually be genuine stars - the world just doesn't work that way.

Hey farlacious,

Currently Grant will be lucky if he is leading out of the goalsquare for Willy firsts let along the Bulldog team. If he does make it great yet will never be the star forward we hoped for not from what I've seen at Willy

Happy with that suggestion Farlacious. He's the Captain of the senior footy team at the school one of my sons attends, so I've had my eye on him for quite a while now. Has had a few injury concerns during the year, but moves well, has great hands and is one big unit for such a young kid. Go get him Doggies!

Which is why we need to draft Griffith. He can lead alright for a big unit, and he can take a massive grab - that much is guaranteed. He also has the right frame for AFL football. Wouldn't judge Grant too much so far. Tall kids can take alot of time to develop. Buddy and Roughy took a few years finding their feet, and from the interviews I've heard and read about Grant, it's not attitude that's his problem, it's building up his fitness base. Still, though, if Griffith isn't there, and Black is, I'd take him in a heartbeat.

This draft is deeper than the media is saying... Alot of good midfielders, not so many tall key position players early in the draft... Bit of talk that John Butcher who was a certain top two pick at the start of the season will fall back and maybe still be around at pick 15. Another Gippsland power player Kobe Stevens may still be around at pick 15, another good sized player who can play midfeild and forward and is a good lead up player. From what i saw of the National championships Talia doesnt look great

#15 -TALIA (i think this kid could be anything honestly seen this kid play ALOT this year his awarness is as good as ive seen for a kid his age i honestly think he will turn out to be better then hurley will be for essendon he can even play forward as CHF i honeslty think if we get him it will be a steal)

#31 - MOORE (trust me when i say this moore is so underated on bigfooty he is a good half foward player if he was able to show his potential he could resemble someone like a ryan o'keefe very good skills and a excellent ball reader)

#63 - DAW (thats face it this kid would be a gamble but i think hes worth a spot on our list he could be our liam jurrah he has to be a better option then leaving cam wight and skipper on our list they are doing nothing but rotting away in willy and were never going to be afl players next year this kid could be a massive cult hero and would attract a mass sudanesse support for our club)

Take Griffiths or Carlisle if you want a tall.

Leave Black for us :p He is a fragile 19 year old that just came up from country wa. He will not thrive moving across the country and leaving his large family network in Mandurah ;) If Black goes to Victoria, you will be plaugued with more "rumor: Aaron Black homesick threads " than Carlton did this year with Chris Yarran.

So pick him at your own risk :thumbsu:

Your underrating Moore as well. Were in the running to pick him up with our first round selection.

Thanks heaps for that Bulldogsman. Really top stuff :thumbsu:

Also, on a related topic, I have to congratulate you for the mock draft you did. Really superb effort and would have taken you a lot of time and research. I enjoyed reading it all. I really recommend other doggies supporters to have a read of it in the drafts and trading board if they have some spare time :)

EDIT: I forgot to mention that Grand Blue also did a fantastic mock draft in the drafts and trading board.

I think we should gamble on Daw with one our latter draft picks if he's still available.

I saw Daw up close at the state screening, very long legs. I agree if he is still around at the latter stage he would be worth a gamble. Cant say i've seen him play or heard much about him.:thumbsu::thumbsu:

Thanks Boy From Brasil, I've got uni holidays to thank for that.

Also some of you have mentioned Griffiths, yes he's talented but 5 games is the most he's been able to string together in the TAC cup over 3 years because of injury. He may even be there at our second pick.
