Toast Pick 28 - Fraser McInnes

Wrapped with McInnes. Can never hurt to have young talls capable of rucking pushing through. Will surely see the end of Lynch in a few years.

Boy we have some impressive talls coming through. Particularly if we draft Manson or Turnbridge in the PSD/rookie draft as we should.

Dodged a big ass bullet with Talia. There's a reason he slipped so far.

Schade however would've been nice, but guess home grown talent is always a priority.

Looks like we selected a kpd with a bit of versatility which is not a bad thing.

Reading the drafts reports he had an injury interupted season but played seniors WAFL late but not the under 18's
So he could be a bit of a slider in the draft due to a lower profile outside of WA.

Seems to also have a bit of a knock regarding his impact on games given his bulk at junior level which is a bit of a worry though

196cm and moves well? Sounds good.

Furthermore, I'm taking it as a good sign that he missed footy with injury. If he was healthy maybe he would've gone a lot higher?

I know RE and myself both rated him as the best tall defender in the draft pool talent wise. Really happy with the pick and as it turns out we could have had both the two players i tipped us to take and the two i wanted.

Never seen him play, but it's good to know he is rated highly by those who have....

And it's great to get a player (Newman) who was wanted by seemingly every BF Eagles fan from a fair way out. Well done us:thumbsu:

Nepotism calls are ****ing stupid. It's basically translation for "I didn't read a single phantom draft before today".

In the last 1-3 months or so I've seen McInnes range between 11-14 and 30. His highlights, though only 45 seconds long, look great.

For those wanting a bit of an idea of him, Perth Football manager Darren Solomon has this to say about him:

"Fraser is very similar to O'Meara off the field in that he leaves no stone unturned in preparing himself for footy. Good on the ground, good in the air and has a really good work-rate. For a big guy he has great defensive attributes which will really help him".

I like the sound of his professionalism and work-rate for a big guy.

I know you can't tell much from 48 seconds of edited footage, but his body and the way he moves and kicks reminds of Phil Davis. Davis also had an injury interrupted draft year iirc.

NEPOTISM...is it me or does Fraser look like a Troy Simmons clone ? geez I hope not.

Seriously you like to speak a lot of shite.

Fraser Mcinnes is a outstanding selection I always thought GWS would take him.
Played mainly as a key defender, is a great overhead mark, wonderful left foot kick and has great pace, that video doesn't show much of it.
He is a running rebounding defender in the Jako mould.

Yes he can play foward and pinch hit in the ruck, but is mainly a backman that can play a number of positions.
He is easily the best defender in this draft, and I rate as top ten talent.

If he hadn't missed the championship due to injury and had played on Patton like brad wirra wanted, he would of been a top ten pick.

Being at WCE he will be given time to develop behind some already good defenders, and offer us some good depth in kpd talent.

He has a high ceiling, and will put pressure on our other defenders.

Re: Pick 28 - Fraser McInness

Two ex-Trinity boys :)

Did Newman graduate from Trinity? It's incredible the amount of players Trinity College has provided for the AFL, I think that with these two the number would be 20. No other WA boys school could lay claim to more I wouldn't have thought.

In terms of McInnes, Glassy and Lynch ain't gonna be around forever. I like the pick. Go Eagles.

This is a good selection as is Newman. It's no boring player selection and like Newman has risks. That video doesn't show him at full pace, infact he rebounds really well and can running carry a bit (more than McKenzie).

Really like to hear a rap like that.

A taller Scott Lucas, nice side step, left footer and looks good overhead.

Certainly doesn't look cumbersome for someone 196cm.:thumbsu:

Solid selection and Newman adds a bit of creativity around the packs and can kick a goal.

Looking forward to the rookie draft now, pick up a Turnbridge, Nelson, Manson and even a L Davis / Medhurst and the draft looks decent for not many picks.
