Very classy move by the club to guide him to life membership.
Gaff is currently sitting on 298 AFL games as under the qualification guidelines official AFL pre-season matches are taken into account, along with representative games. Gaff played 18 pre-season games, one game for Victoria and one International Rules game against Ireland.

Andrew Brayshaw breathes a sigh of relief

One of the premier wingers in his prime with his death by 100 cuts mantra.

Showed incredible loyalty to the WCE rejecting norfs lucrative long term, multi million dollar offer.

Sadly a mix of injury (which he kept pushing through, during our injury crisis years) and the AwFLs constant tweaking of the rules to make the game quick saw gaffs influence and ability to accumulate and be damaging with the ball sharply decline.

Gaffy. Quite possibly his generations Priddis. Maligned and undervalued by many but a key pillar of the club for many years.

"Death by 1000 Cuts" was the moniker frequently ascribed to Gaff's play style and indeed he has probably suffered that fate himself in a long, slow decline from the peak of his abilities.

Left it all out there for the club and one huge left hook away from being a premiership player for the club.

Thank you Andrew!

Freo supporters are still sooking about him.
That’s the way they are bred

Anyway enough about the purples.

Thankyou to Andrew Gaff for some incredible seasons. Quality wingman that never stopped running.

All the best in retirement Gaffy.

One of only three players to ever wear the No.3 for West Coast and he belongs with the other 2 that wore it

Different style of player whose identifying trait was his capacity to run further than Forrest Gump. Was pivotal to our kick mark game style developed under Simpson with his gut running to provide a link between defence an attack

Always prepared to sit under the high ball and took some fearful hits as a result. Never shirked a contest despite his relatively light frame

Unfortunately the game and his lack of pace caught up with him. But in a rough period when players dropped likes flies he continued to play through pain when warm bodies were needed, arguably to his own detriment

Never sought the limelight preferring to work diligently behind the scenes to get the best out of himself.

Hopefully the young group he’s leaving behind have learned something from his work ethic

Enjoy retirement.

Freo fans hate Gaff because he broke someone's jaw, and fair enough.

Freo fans hate Harley because he refuses to roll over. They fear what he represents, a reborn West Coast. AND FAIR ENOUGH đź’Ş

On Gaffy though thanks for the long service

Was the premier wingman in the comp at one stage. Ran all day and his neat disposal used to cut up opposition, where the death by 1000 cuts descriptor came in to it.

Reinvented himself as an inside mid later in his career. Also to his detriment he played through injury due to the injury crisis at the club, which bought about his own end quicker.

Thanks for the loyalty and dedication Gaffy, enjoy retirement, you earned it.

His first game when he came on as sub for Lecca and Aaron Edwards goes to be a tough guy and knocks him over. Gaffy gets up dusts himself of with no ****s and went about it.

Hilarious that anyone would still gripe about Gaff's hit on Brayshaw. Yep, it was a total brain fart. But it cost him a premiership. It's pretty much the biggest penalty you could give a player. Unlike Barry Hall, who smacked Matt Maguire in the guts, got away scott free and won a Grand Final the following week.

Pick 4 Welcome Andrew Gaff

4. WEST COAST - Andrew Gaff
Height:
182cm
Weight: 78kg
DOB: 16/06/92
Club: Oakleigh Chargers (Vic)
Draft range: 4-5
Gaff is not so much an excitement machine as he is an accumulator who finds and distributes the ball from the first minute to the last. He won the three-kilometre race at the draft combine in 10 minutes and finished equal second in the beep test with 15.3. He's not flashy; he's just effective. You see 200, or even 300 no-fuss games written all over him.

Good call from the night he was drafted

Re: Pick 4 Welcome Andrew Gaff

Welcome Gaffy, hopefully you kick out one of the many plodders in our midfield next season

It’s the circle of life as an AFL footballer - you eventually become what you replaced

What a legend, toiled away to beat his opponent routinely, and often playing under duress. Has given so much to the club, hope we can send him out in style!

Was so good in our premiership year and a big part of getting the team to the pointy end of the season in great form.
Will always be a shame he missed out on the premiership but was nonetheless pivotal in that achievement.

Grats Gaff; on a career better than most, and thanks for your contributions over the years.
