Geelong Falcons

Tom Anastasopoulos

Forward

176cm, 66kg

If you’re tasked with manning Anastasopoulos for the day, you’re in for a long shift. The lean, speedy forward runs his opponent to the ground and hits the scoreboard whilst doing so.

With an athletics background, Anastasopoulos has proven he is a nightmare to play against with a strong football IQ and effective ball use inside forward 50, he’ll either damage on the scoreboard or in offensive transition. Anastasopoulos has had an incredible efficiency rate of 12.1 in his scoring shots, proving he can score from set shots or open play.

Anastasopoulos brings energy inside forward 50 and creates intense pressure for defenders trying to exit. With such a lean figure, Anastasopoulos does struggle at times around the contest, lacking some strength to break through opponents.

2023 AFL Draft: Which Vic Country prospects are going under the radar?

There is a paywalled article about Tom in the Geelong Advertiser where he talks about how going back to school football stalled his progress this year.

Tom Anastasopoulos started the year with a bang.
The endurance animal, known to his teammates as ‘Tommy A’, ran rings around his opponents in the opening month, bursting onto the AFL draft scene with 12 goals in his first four games for the Geelong Falcons.
However, Anastasopoulos had a hiccup after that strong start.
Attending Geelong College, Anastasopoulos had to play Associated Public Schools (APS) football when their season began and jump from playing school footy to Falcons throughout the year.
While he kicked six goals in his very first game of the year for Geelong College, he returned to the Falcons during the school holidays and found it difficult to adjust to the extra speed and talent in the Coates Talent League.

With the nickname chat, his Christian name is a 50/50 chance at having ‘Taso’ (tah-so) as the shorter alternative.

The other is that his name is Thoma, in Greek you actually pronounce the ‘Th’ as you would in the word Three.

It's a tricky one for the Average White Bogan to pronounce, but less prone to embarrassment than our man Thanasi's surname.

That’s exactly who I was thinking of.
