Orrrazio only got the opportunities because who he knew, if I am not mistaken his father became the Essendon scout or list manager or something in that vein a year or few before he was selected. Don’t get me wrong he played National Junior Footy for SA, but without really being a star contributor for Norwood. Had elite speed, but really hadn’t jumped off the page and screamed pick me. A speculative selection that strengthens my theory if the right make up is put in the right environment, they will exceed all expectations!

Maybe, still point stands. Didn’t do anything to scream SELECT ME, so to say he was overlooked for Impey is a massive stretch!

Has to be something behind the scenes with Hartung. Played a couple of bloody good games for the Hawks last year and even though he barely has a defensive bone in his body you don't just throw away players who've demonstrated the offensive capabilities he's done at AFL level at a young stage of his career. Then for clubs to steer well clear of him as a DFA was odd too, guess we'll see how he goes at North but my tip is he'll be a pretty effective footballer more than worthy of a spot on any list in the comp. Surely has to be some hidden black flag like attitude / teamwork or something.

Barry, who kicked the Power’s first goal in their two-point JLT Community Series loss to West Coast in Perth, carries the lowest profile of those with AFL experience to arrive at Alberton Oval this year. But it was Barry, who played five games with Melbourne in 2014, who was clearly the most impressive of those to step out for Port Adelaide on Sunday.

The 23-year-old demonstrated talent and an eagerness against the Eagles that could reap rewards for both Barry and his new club.

As Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley said after the clash, Barry “did some really nice things”. “That’s what he has been doing all pre-season, which is great for Dom. Hopefully that leads to more opportunities for him moving forward,” Hinkley said.

Late in November, Port Adelaide selected Barry with pick 61 in the national draft.That could prove a bargain should Barry carry the form he showed against West Coast into the season proper.The former Demon topped Port Adelaide’s possession tally with 20 disposals, nine of those touches contested, and also laid four tackles.

Can cover Polec Rd 1 and possibly take Amon's spot if he plays like this. That game already make Impey look like a big waste of time, they a very similar players and the same age. Basically replaced Impey with a pick 61.

Barry seems more mature and balanced than Impey after earlier struggles.

They are interesting comparisons. Had Impey taken last or this year off to clear his head and come back like Barry has it would be interesting to see whether that would have helped him. They both seem to be very similar type players and the fact we can replace him with a pick half the value or less by recruiting a mature aged player but not a player actually any older than Impey, all we actually lose out on his actual game experience not necessarily anything else. Barry could well make us think, that's exactly what we wanted from Impey! Let's hope so.

While Im also excited about his performance on the weekend, I think its important to remember that it was one practice match. Lets maybe wait until round 10 or so before we fall into the trap of our friends down the road and proclaim him as the second coming.

To be honest watching us of late have never wished for more pace with the ball in hand. Composure, someone to kick to and blocking/shepherding, yes.

Obviously injury concerns but Polec and Motlop are leaders in the AFL in this department.

It would have been nice to get our best and settled team in round one but it looks like it's going to be one of those messy years.

Ive always liked Barry... from my first season doing SuperCoach I had him in my side, and the few games he played that year were good for my team.
I was pleased to see he had a reasonable game on the weekend. I hope that he gets the opportunity to add to the 5 AFL games he currently has next to his name.

Nah he is a known product not an 18 year old kid. He has a couple seasons at Melbourne before going home and then a season in the SANFL so there is a record of his ability playing against men. The last 18 year old kid we have taken is the one who if he plays in 2018 is a big bonus.

It doesn't change Barry was our last pick. Don't get me wrong, I believe we knew what we were getting with the pick, but we bet he would be available later in the draft. At the least, we thought 17 AFL teams didn't have him in high account.
