List Mgmt. Pick 69 - Lloyd Meek

Meek has been on our list in 2018-2020. Thats 3 years and No AFL games. Has played a fair bit of WAFL games.

2018 I can understand has he was only 18 or 19 years old.

2019, Played 9 or 10 Peel games then was injured.

2020 was stuffed as The freo players were not allowed to play for Peel due to Covid. Still..... Meek should of got a debut game last season.

Sean Darcy played 15 out of those 17 games in 2020. So he should of got a debut game either in round 3 or 4 when darcy was injured.

I am extremely bullish on this young man after his outing last week.
Loved his work at ground level on the follow up. Seems to have a great footy brain, makes quick decisions and has good hands.
Mobile, takes a mark and directed some taps really nicely.
Big test for him this week. If he holds his own and Darcy is still underdone, put him in Rd 1.

I am keen for Meek to make his debut in round 1.

He doesnt need to ruck 100% of the game. 50% would be fine. Lobb can ruck the other 50%.

Cox can pinch hit as well even if he only 193 cm.

Max Gawn is going to be a tough opponent regardless of which freo ruck will be on him.

How big is Meek ATM? I noticed him at training a couple of years back and he had legs like T-Rex. I remember thinking he didnt seem very mobile and would struggle to get off the ground so the footage from the other day really surprised me with his agility...

In terms of the ruck selected for round 1.....
I’d much rather Meek at his current output than a half-baked Sean Darcy
Darcy when not 100% can be a liability around the ground, Meek can contribute at ground level and provide a contest in ruck.

There is no substitute for game fitness and I personally feel Darcy needs some before returning

Will Sean Darcy be fully fit by round 1 ?

He may be fit in regards to being injury free, but he will certainly not be match fit. Meeks got a big couple of weeks coming up.
Fair enough. But given the choice..... I would pic Meek for his debut game in the MCG and let his friends and family be there to see it.

It's our only game at the MCG this season, unless we make finals.

Ironic saying that as Sean Darcy is a Geelong boy. Darcy made his AFL debut in round 15 in 2017 vs Geelong in Geelong.

The Meeks are/were Geelong supporters as well.

If you check, I think you weill find that Meek was in the rehab gang for a lot of last season.

Not confusing Meek with Scott Jones by any chance?

He looked solid in those highlights. I like that mark on the wing in that 1 minute 45 second mark,. He reminded me of Zac Clarke of 2009-12 with that marking on the wings.

I mean Zac Clarke played 21 dockers games in his 1st 3 seasons. 5 in 2009, 3 in 2010 and 13 in 2011. He still managed to play 101 games in total despite stiff competition from Sandilands, Jono Griffin and to a small degree in Jack Hannath.

Amazing that Meek has been on freos list for 3 years and remarkably hasnt played one dockers game. Sure you can say he was injured in the 2nd half of last season. I wished he got a dockers game or 2 in 2019 around the time Ross Lyon was sacked as Meek had solid form in the 2nd half of the WAFL season in 2019.
