This will probably be a difficult scenario for some here to accept but what if he's gay? To assume a woman would be what Ollie is solely after is a bit neanderthal. Not saying I think he is gay but never assume.

That was my thought too. I can understand how hard it would be to come out when all the questions in the media assume heterosexuality.

That's not making any assumption as to Ollie's specific situation. I simply don't know, nor care.

Oliver Wines is like a 1980's Port Adelaide player in that he has magnificent hands. He has the best hands in our side and he will end up playing 300 games for us and won't be going anywhere, anytime.
Agree 100%
Ollie wont be leaving Port as he loves the Club and, as he said, he loves his brothers at the Club.
Plus, he will be our next Captain.

The time is coming where Ollie has to become a man, grow a beard and return to build barns with the rest of the Echucish.

"'Tis a nice barn, but 'tis no pool English"

Don't assume that all men are overly interested in getting a root. I have known the odd young man that had plenty going for them that would have killed with the ladies, but weren't interested in the time/ emotional commitment of a relationship. He could be Gay, he could be straight and focusing on football and life, or he could be slaying it like Leo 'discreetly'. Now that I have thought about it though, how good would it be if he was gay? Literally the toughest bloke in the league that it would change people's perceptions of being homosexual (as I assume there is a substantial crossover between homophobes and football fans). And if anyone had a problem with it, we get to be the rebels giving the middle finger to everyone else as per usual.

I'm sure he does OK. Probably has half of Adelaide throwing their G-strings/Y-fronts at him.

Beat you to it m80. ;)

Tredders on sports news was talking about Boak maybe missing and Ollie being Captain this weekend. He joked that Trav reckons Ollie is already staging a takeover. Sounds like Ollie is definitely in line and Trav is pretty comfortable with it. :thumbsu::)

OLLIE Wines will captain Port Adelaide for the first time after skipper Travis Boak was ruled out of Saturday's game against the Brisbane Lions with a hamstring injury.

Well deserved Ollie.

How freakish, his childhood best mate Jack Viney is also an AFL captain.

Just to put bed wetter minds at ease, remember when Dangerfield flatly refused anything to do with the captaincy of the crows, preferring instead to focus on football or whatever, when it was obviously because he was leaving and didn't want to start something he knew he wouldn't finish? Well this would suggest the club ran the idea of captaining the club this week past Ollie before leaking it publicly and that he's well and truly up for it. Had he made similar noises to those of Dangerfield it would be a slightly less encouraging sign. Ollie tends to finish things he starts.

Calling it now, Ollie will be the captain next year.

You can see that he's making a big effort to fix his kicking and be a goal kicking midfield. For the club's sake I hope he never descends back to the efficiency levels of the past two years, particularly if he is to be our captain in the future.

We've gotten him some much-needed help. Ebert going back into the midfield has been overdue and SPP is obviously a wrecking ball.

Last year it felt like he was doing it all on his own, what with many of our centre square setups featuring Sam Gray and Ah Chee.

Well if he is gay,i would be willing to take one for the team. I'm in Alberton so he doesn't have to go far for training.

Don't know when these comments were made but from an article Rucci put out today ...

“When I came over, I probably did not see myself staying in Adelaide for more than two years,” Wines told The Advertiser.

“Now, I can’t see myself leaving.

“I came over as an 18-year-old from interstate not knowing too many people. But I was fortunate to arrive along with other interstate draftees — and a lot of country Victorians.

“So we have become a family among ourselves. I’ve got 42 best mates here — and love supporting them, being around them everyday and love being at a pretty special place.

“At this stage, I don’t have any reason to leave Port Adelaide. I love it here, I love our fans, I love the city of Adelaide — and, most importantly, I love the club I play for and the people who make this club what it is.”
