Last series for the two old guys unless they find some form.

Obviously you're not an Aussie selector.

Next series is in the West Indies.
Need experienced heads on an overseas tour.
Then there is the Ashes series.
Can't throw young players into the cauldron of the Ashes.

WG Grace was still playing Test cricket aged 50.

I'd order the bath chair for Ricky now. Chap might as well be comfortable in the slips as his grandkids watch him from the pavilion.

My team if I was selector

David Warner
Ed Cowan
Shane watson
Usman kahwaja
Michael Clarke
Matthew Wade w/k
Dan christan
Peter Siddle
James Pattison
Nathan Lyon
Ryan Harris
12th man : Mitchell starc

What there gonna do

Shane watson
David Warner
Usman Khawaja
Ricky ponting
Michael Clarke
Brad haddin
Michael hussey
Peter Siddle
James pattison
Nathan Lyon
Ryan Harris
12TH Man:Mitchell Starc

That is why we start playing young guys now. We won't win a test match in England if Ponting or Hussey are still in the side. I am 100% confident of that.

How much relevance does a test cricketer playing till he is 50 in a non- professional era in the late 1800's have.

I hope you are wrong because the pain won't end while Ponting is in the side.

My team if I was selector

David Warner
Ed Cowan
Shane watson
Tim Paine
Michael Clarke
Matthew Wade w/k
Dan christan
Peter Siddle
James Pattison
Nathan Lyon
Ryan Harris

Mate you would be a hopeless selector because you don't even know Tim Paine is out for 4 months. :D

David Warner
Ed Cowan
Usman Khawaja
Richard Ponting (because Shaun Marsh is unfit)
Michael Clarke
Shane Watson
Matthew Wade (+)
Peter Siddle
James Pattinson
Ryan Harris
Nathan Lyon
12th - Michael Hogan

I like Warner and Cowan up the top because it reminds me of Sehwag/Gambhir...one bloke playing his shots and sending the field back, one nudging and nurdling to tick it over and feed the strike to the big dog.

Shaun Marsh (if ever fit) to replace Ponting if he fails in the first few tests. Only kept him in over Hussey because I fear for our slip cordon otherwise.

I like this a lot. Although Harris has me worried. What happens if he gets injured in the first session of the opening day.

With Shaun Marsh out, here is my Boxing Day Test XI

David Warner
Shane Watson
Usman Khawaja
Ricky
Michael Clarke
Daniel Christian
Matthew Wade
Peter Siddle
James Pattinson
Nathan Lyon
Jayde Herrick

why is it shitty ? you telling me McGrath and Warne were the finished article when they first played test cricket ?. How many first class games had they played ?The selectors to their credit saw they had some skills that would translate well to the test enviroment and picked them early.

NZ picked Dan Vetorri as an 18 yr old on potential. India picked Tendulker at 16
Good grief.

If you don't understand why this is a shitty argument – that we should pick young guys and just keep playing them regardless of performance, because that's what happened with Warne, McGrath and Tendulkar – then I honestly CBF explaining it to you.

Warner
Cowan ( if Watson unfit)
khawaja
Punter
Clarke
Hussey
Haddin
Pattinson
Starc
Siddle
Lyon

Marsh out...ok. New team.

I'm not sure about Harris but we may have to play him at some stage to get some game time into him as early as possible for the sake of the rest of the series given there's no FC matches for quite while. The old Catch 22. Lacking some fitness but there no-where to get it other than in a Test match. If not play Bollinger, who'd go just as well anyway. Both have great Test records. Will either player though Christian has to play as cover just in case of calamity.

My 12.....

Warner
Cowans
Khawaja
Watson
Clarke
Christian
Wade
Harris
Siddle
Pattinson
Lyon
Bollinger

Anyone who made 100 on that wicket has stated their credentials.

Admittedly it was NZ, but their attack was solid.

I can't wait to see Warner up against SA or England. I get the feeling he'd love the fight.

He's a good package, being a gun fielder as well.

Some people think he was only picked because he's a poster boy – that he was picked to "put bums on seats".

Some people think Tom Cooper, Ed Cowan, Wes Robinson, Rob Quiney and Peter Forrest were more deserving of selection.

He was picked because (contrary to popular opinion on here) the selectors of the Australian Test XI aren't complete and utter ****wits, and can recognize talented players. Surprising, innit?

Should Warner be in the side?

Was it a mistake to pick him in Hobart?

With the pulling power (poster boy status) of Ponting and Hussey the selectors will stick with them. Hughes being out now means Warner is the logical choice. Not changing my tune. Remember the 100 times I told you. His selection is something I was against because of why he was groomed since before he played FC. Now with so many injuries and out of form players (plus the selectors seeming unwilling to give a 29 year old Cowan a chance) he's in. I would pick him if I was in charge. If both Watson and Marsh played then no.

Hey Stats – was it a mistake to pick him in Hobart?

Last week, you preferred Quiney, Robinson, Cowan, Forrest and Cooper. Warner has now leapfrogged those guys, I take it?

Tell me Stats, when you say that you would pick him, would you be picking him on merit or to put bums on seats?
