Arguments for and against sending Naughton back but at the very least I think it's a good idea to do it every so often. Even if it's just for a full quarter to get his hands on it a few times and build his confidence back up before sending him forward again. His marking looks like it's getting worse every game.

So near, yet so far away. How frustrating and sad it is to see Roughead playing a blinder as a key position defender for the pies. Next draft we need to go really hard for a quality tall defender and a quality tall forward. we should have won this game, but the kicking for goal and forward entry is a real worry. Forward coach is an issue, imo. hence the need for a review of the whole coaching panel. i think the season is over for us, unfortunately. tank, get a low draft pick and use it for trade bait for quality backman and or forward. go hard for another tall forward/backman. we need these two key positions filled if we are to be competitive into the future.
 
Thought the pies were very beatable tonight. They were playing very poorly. Grundy and Degoey won the game for them.

We really need to find a way to capitalize when we have the game on our terms. Too often we go long periods of dominating the play with zero return. Our mids really lack penetration with their kicking.

Same thing l would give to see him use his non preferred side. Teams have worked him out so dont hard tag him. His kicking has no penetration and his handballs are floaters. Also be good is he could run when defending. Along with Wood and Cordy l beleive the 3 most overated people in the side.

Sorry? CORDY is over-rated? How low must you rate Cordy if you rate him lower than the general footy community does? He must be close to being the most anonymous 50 game player in the AFL.

I for one have never rated him. He's weak in aerial contests, gives his opponents acres of space and is playing key position because there is little else available.

Overall I'll take that game as a positive. Can't blame the coaching staff for this loss, this one is on the players.

Our forward coach or football head has to start taking some heat for our forward woes.

Showed no fight? During THAT game? That is a solid contender for stupidest comment of the year. The only thing they had today was fight!!! There were at least 3 occasions the Pies looked like they were about to destroy us, and the Dogs wrestled control back against the flow - the hardest thing to do in modern footy. And this was against the Pies - a team that has built their entire gameplan on pressure.

Goal kicking is terrible. We all know that. We've all been saying that for years. Nothing wrong with our endeavour though - especially during THAT game! If anything, the fact we kept coming despite the constantly deflating goalkicking efforts makes their fight even MORE commendable.

Fair dinkum. Anyone would think it's easy to keep the Pies from swarming all over you. It's not. The boys fought hard for 4 whole quarters. But alas, they pissed it away.
 
My thoughts on today, we aren’t far away. Forward line needs an slight adjustment. An experienced key position forward (doesn’t need to be a star, a 30-40 goal type would do the job) a small forward with speed and goal nous. An experienced kpd and for the love of god play Lewis young.

We lost the game, pies didn’t win it.

I think we as a club jump at shadows too much and that’s why we are struggling so much to develop key position players, a bad game they get dumped. Schache had two shockers and got dumped back in today 3 goals but we won’t see what he can actually be till he gets to that 50-75 game mark, same with Lewis young.

Now yes you can learn things in the vfl but at some point you have to back your talls in and persist with them, as long as the work rate and effort is there. Some players need to learn through adversity and it helps them add strings to their bows
 
The goal kicking was disgraceful as usual.

The midfield was much better today but in both games now against Collingwood Grundys dominance means they were generally on the back foot. If English can become a decent ruckman the midfield will be the best in the comp, they’re forced to go into most stoppages with a defensive mindset.

Has been since we pushed him back after 2016. To the day i die i will view that as a mistake. Big forward with small forward pressure......nah, dime a dozen. Push him back.
 
Happy with the game. Didn’t get the 4 points but smoked Collingwood for majority of the game and played most of it on our terms.

I keep banging on about it, but this group is young and going by today’s game we’ve got plenty to look forward to.

On another note, Buckley’s face when the the camera was on their box on the siren, he didn’t look happy. If you asked him what he thought of today’s game, he’d tell you we should’ve given them a touch up.
Once we clean up our side of things, over the next 12-24 months we’ll be hard to beat.
