Right result in the end IMO but heck me dead what a rubbish way to end a game. Every single umpire can get in the bin this year, how they continually get worse year on year is astonishing
Maybe we need 5 umpires on field. That will eliminate the errors, isn't that how it works at AFL house? 🙃

Yeah totally corrupt. Collingwood with their 8 frees paid all day and blatant ones missed in the last quarter were clearly the umpires choice to win the match.

Absolutely fool. Enjoy the loss and the conspiracies.
This might just be the most sense a Richmond supporter has ever made on Big Footy

Shocking call. Did he run too far…. Maybe, maybe not but it was marginal either way. 1 minute to go, great game, spectacular piece of play, stupid call. Didn’t cost Crows the game, just put a dirty stain on the occasion.

Just let them play.
The mown strips are 9m I think. When he had run through 2 complete strips he was always going to be pinged. It wasn’t marginal.

Rankine bounces the ball pretty much exactly on centre wing. The grass changes colour where the ball bounces:

Ball comes back to his hands here (red line is the edge of the grass strip):

After 1 second the camera then pans back to the wider view

Rankine kicks the ball here, where the free is paid

Which means this is the approximate distance he runs

Anyone who wants to argue that that is genuinely less than 15 metres should permanently delete their account.

It's important to enforce the rule, otherwise players will avoid bouncing to prevent being caught htb.

So based on the above, Rankine sprinted approx. 28m in 3 seconds?

After 100 minutes or whatever if footy, he was running at Olympic Final speed?

Adelaide have copped the rough end of the pineapple multiple times over the past few months but today wasn't one of those times. That was absolutely the correct call by the umpire.

First thought was the umpire didn’t see he had a bounce. I think there’s a fair chance that’s actually what happened. Then they’ll adjust and say well no it was the second passage.

At the risk of going over the top, it was probably the worst umpiring decision I've seen in living memory.

It's so rare for that to ever be paid, and when it is it is usually very blatant.

To pluck it out in that situation was just bizarre. The only logical explanation is that he didn't see him take a bounce.

FWIW, I thought the umpiring was awful all day, and I also doubt Adelaide would have score from that entry anyway (as they couldn't score from any of the previous 900 they'd bombed in there), but regardless it was an absolutely appalling bit of umpiring.

You're happy with players running 25m and without a bounce?

Get this bloke on the Australian Olympic sprint team, that's astonishing how quickly he covered that distance
