List Mgmt. Plan B (No Cam) Fwds: Trade? Draft? Mature Aged Recruit?

Fremantle's trading has been negligent. They're quite clearly chuffed with themselves landing Bennell (it was a one horse race – you don't get many of those). This McCarthy stuff is a total farce, it's not like Aish who's out of contract and would go to the PSD. McCarthy has two more years on his contract (this bloke must be thick as five ******* fibro houses in Parramatta, seriously) and GWS have no reason to trade him. They have repeatedly stated this.

It's not like McCarthy is a bright young midfielder. Y'know, he's not someone who'd be really nice but who isn't essential. He is a tall forward: the greatest need in the team. How can the recruiters and traders literally be so arrogant that they're just waiting for him to fall to them? It is quite simply baffling. It's arrogant, dumb, and unrealistic.

Freo should keep banging on the door for McCarthy while working on Black or Casboult or whatever half-average full forward is laying around. Freo desperately needed a power forward in 2012... we are quite literally looking at having no genuine on in 2016. Pav could retire or will be on his last legs. Taberner isn't ready for 22 games (and that's me being ultra-rainbows about a payer I detest) while Apeness is promising but hasn't really done much.

It's offensive. How people are paying $1000 a year to sit at Subiaco Oval to support this club, while feeling nonplussed about the negligent trading Freo's employed? I pay a third of that and only a percentage goes to Freo, and to be brutally ******* frank, even that seems too much.

It's INSANE that a club would act like this, in a premiership window, in regards to a scarily depleted position. It is staggering.
Apeness could well turn out to be the next Moller. Maybe our strategy is only to target players in contract therefore we always have an out and can say it was too difficult to get a trade done. We will definitely have to play A Pearce in the forward line now and leave Smith, Dawson and Sivagni to hopefully be covered by others in the backline or else we will have nothing up forward.

Apeness debuted in his first season and was, what, a first round selection? He also kicked a few goals and showed some confidence in his two games. I thought he had the right mindset, a really suitable body type, but he just needed that experience. You could tell he was unsure of where to run and didn't seem to acclimatise well to the fast pace. But that comes with patience and patronisation. I remember roast threads thrown at Lachie Neale because he took too long to dispose and didn't look around enough... now he's a general, a very smart user of the play, and someone who manipulates the space and time of a match.

Moller was speculative, he was one of those B rookies from a basketball background. He got one game about half way through his five years. And that was through charity.

Totally different but yeah, agree. I love Alex Pearce and see him as a genuine A-grader in about four years. I have never seen such footy nous and body use from a Freo 0-5 gamer before. He's good up forward but he needs to be a backman.

Apeness hasn't kick any goals in AFL yet.

I remember his first shot on goal against the Dees up in Darwin. He shanked it. I've been worried ever since about him making it.

Don't we have like 6 spots on our list to fill and a weak draft coming up? o_O

Unless they have a swifty lined up no one is expecting, I can't say I'm overly pleased with thus trade period.

Getting Bennell was awesome, but, I don't think that alone is enough to take us the extra step.

Something needs to happen. Maybe the improvement will come from within.....

Ps. Make a reasonable offer for Casboult. He would be a good fit and improve our forward line.

Bennell will help and providing we play Langdon, Weller and Blakely as much as possible I can see some improvement there. This would also allow Fyfe to go forward more and Mundy back.

If Hughes and Grey continue to improve and get a handful of games or more at the top level, I can see improvement.

And if Apeness stays sound and improves his game he could force his way in for a game or two. That'd be improvement.

Lots of "if's" there I know and it certainly wouldn't be a patch on getting McCarthy but it looks like it's going to have to do and certainly better than wasting time and resources on a Black or Casboult who wouldn't provide improvement.

Casboult would provide an improvement IMO. We bomb into the forward line quite often. He clunks big marks but had 50/50 kicking.

He would probably lead the competition in marks inside forward 50 and kick 40 goals 60 behinds or something in our team next year.

Not the Messiah, but, better than nothing.

Don't forget the 4 mids we'll draft next month will be pushing for games also.
I know how those 6 spots will be easily filled: Pick 22 will be a key forward or a Westoff type swingwman, 2nd pick will be a mid, 3rd pick will be ruckman or forward/defender. The last 2 picks will be rookie elevations in Hughes and Smith. Then our 6th pick will be a PSD pick, Possibly Mason Shaw.

Let's go small forward line, awesome delivery. Grab Yarran. Comes home, plays with son son and hangs out with nic nat. Who says we can't make it work. Football is continuously evolving. With him and Harley there is "A" plus delivery.
Yarran half back, Stephen Hill Wing, Harley half forward. Even Chris Mayne could make this work.

He wanted to go to tiger , tiger offer pick 19 also no deal we only got 22.

Yarran is a bum, wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole.
I guess that's why we are of differing opinions. I see Yarran as a playmaker, crucial to making fast inside 50's and breaking lines. Yarran's footskills leave 95% of our players for dead. In imagination land Yarran for Danyle would get us into a GF,.......against WC.

All the skills in the world but he is one of the softest and laziest players I've ever seen.

I'd be pissed off at club even if we gave up pick 22 for him.
