Harmes signed until 2018. Is he officially off the rookie list yet?
Upgraded to the main list, with whatever late pick we got for Fitz last year, with Vanders

Negotiations are under way between defender Tom McDonald’s management and the Demons on a new contract beyond this season.

McDonald was in no hurry earlier this year to recommit to the club but Melbourne’s best start to a season in a decade will be a major influence on his future.

McDonald and key forward Jesse Hogan, out of contract at the end of next season, are the Demons’ priorities this year as the club builds momentum towards a first finals series since 2006.

Greetings

Pardon the intrusion.

Had a rumour posted over our way the Tom McDonald was interested in coming down the highway.
Im not sure of the validity of it, and honestly don't see why after all the hard years he's done with MFC why he would consider leaving now as the trend with your lot is definitely heading up.

That all said, he is OOC.
I like his play and what he does and with Lonergan done at end of this year and HT getting older it would help us out going forward.

Given OOC and knowing how when Bundy left us for Lions (as a top 10 player on our list at the time) we got pick 21 for him which we felt was unders, what is his considered worth to the MFC and what, if it came up, would you want for him.

We have no RD1 to offer but have Rd2 and 2 xRd3 this year.

Im not looking for a godfather deal but just opinions on what his value internally is.

If this is not appropriate here, Mods please move it.

Cheers.

I'm a critic of his but a young key defender who has shown a lot of promise would demand at least a 1st round pick in compensation.

Ok...

Danger got a Rd1, Rd2 and a non AFL player.

So TM is worth Rd1 plus something?

And if you are a critic, what are you critical of with him? Ive seen him play sparingly at best... hence my question. I liked what I saw so im interested in the down side.

Don't bring the Danger deal into it, he was a RFA whom you got for unders. TMac would be a round 1 + steak knives.

I'm critical of his 1 on 1 work (He gets outmuscled easily) and his clangers. His efficiency on paper isn't that bad but he makes some awful mistakes in D50.

And TM is OOC so you are kind of up against it if he chooses where he wants to go.

That aside, great information.:thumbsu:

Thanks

Put it this way, Carlisle got Essendon P5, can imagine Melbourne would look for similar.

Plus reports on Geelong's salary cap squeeze mean that I expect they would be priced out of the market.

Don't think Geelong have the assets to be quite honest.

If he's OOC and TM wants GFC as his only destination, then you kind of have to take what is offered. We are well versed in being fair so whilst it wont favour you, I could see it being reasonable. Whether it is reasonable enough... who knows. And our SC is up, but losing Lonergan, Enright and perhaps Bartel will open some space.

Regardless, as I said, I doubt it will happen/go anywhere for any number of the reasons already stated.

Thanks for the consideration and responses. :thumbsu:

Rightio, here's the lads left out of contract; I'm curious as to what is your order of preferences for re-signing, and for good measure throw Hogan into the mixer as well? Here's mine

  1. Neville Jetta
  2. Tom McDonald
  3. Jack Watts
  4. Dean Kent
  5. O-Mac
  6. Trenners
  7. Wagner
  8. Michie
  9. Dawes
  10. Pedo
  11. Grimes
  12. M. Jones
  13. King
  14. White
De-list:
  • Dean Terlich + 2

Hogan will naturally be #1 priority for everyone I think. But outside of him:

1. Neville Jetta
2. Jack Watts
3. Dean Kent
4. Tom McDonald
5. Jack Trengove
6. Cam Pederson
7. Chris Dawes
8. OMac
9. Jack Grimes (I get the feeling he might be traded or seek out a new club)
10 Josh Wagner (I just don't get the hype)
11. Viv Michie
12. Matt Jones
13. Mitch White

Unknown: Max King. Not sure where he's at, whether he's ticking the boxes or not. He's 3rd year rookie now so has to be elevated or delisted. I haven't heard a lot of news surrounding him.

1. Tom McDonald
2. Jack Watts
3. Neville Jetta
4. Dean Kent
5. Oscar McDonald
6. Josh Wagner

Why not. Here's mine:
  1. Tom McDonald
  2. Jack Watts
  3. Neville Jetta
  4. Pedersen

  11. Grimes
  12. M. Jones
  13. King
  14. White
Lock the key positions and specialist players in first. For sentimental reasons I'd love to give Trenners another contract. After Wagner you can throw a blanket over them really.

I'm amazed you have Pedo so high on your list. Would you prefer him to Dawes if they were on the same contract? I think I would perosnally take Dawes in that situation (provided he can stay injury free until the end of the year)

Cmon Melbourne. I'm bored and up for a good contract announcement. Even that Spencil thing for one year was something.

Max King seems to be at the lower end of everyones list, with only Gawn and Spencer as developed ruckman I think we need Max King to stay, ruckman take a few years to get their body right and with 3 years in the system already the club and he have put the work in, a couple more years and he should be right to be our 2nd ruck option.

Right now, yes. Two reasons: Pedersen's marking is better and he is also handy in the ruck. Dawes seems not keen to play in the ruck, and his overhead hands just aren't as good.

However, I think Dawes probably offers more at ground level inside the fifty with quick hands and good tackling. It was probably unfair to have Michie in front of Dawes though; an oversight on my part. I'd have him maybe equal with Wagner if not slightly behind.

Obviously we will delist a couple, also interesting to note JKH is contracted for 2017, so I'm not so sure we will delist him. M Jones is an obvious candidate but he does play a role we don't do very well, Grimes will most likely leave as a FA and King/White being on the rookie list are in big trouble.

I'll second this one

I'm really liking White as a long-term prospect. Showed he had the goods in his one game last year and is one of our most consistent performers at Casey. I'm comfortable delisting/trading the last 4 here. King would be higher if he had played a game (which I expect he will later in the year) as every club has a history of poaching developing ruckmen just as they are about to come good. You don't throw away a 2 metre prospect that's been on the list three years for nothing.
