I can't believe that none of the Bulldogs kids have made it on the list .... absolute farse. They have the best group of young kids in the league.

Trent didn't get on the field much in 2002 so Livvo and Wiggins definitely had better seasons but I take your point. His skill level is infinitely superior to most around the club. Has the look of someone special. Hard to believe he debuted this year actually. I understand that he is one of the pacesetters in the fitness stakes too, is that right? After Prender of course, who is absolutely killing them on the track. Can you also let me know your thoughts on Oke. I knew he was too good to be lost to AFL football already but exactly why can't he get it together?

btw PP, where have you been hiding while Collo has been going through the place with a broom? ;) You've been quiet so I thought you might have moved on until I saw your name in Inside Carlton again.

I actually dont work there anymore and havent done since Collingwood's 108 point win. I left the week before that.

I wouldnt know how any of them are going this year, but i know prender was one of the hardest workers last pre-season.

In my opinion Wiggins was the best player out of the 3 i mentioned in my last post. But Sporn will be the best. Livingston will probably be solid, but no Silvagni, theres alot of pressure on that kids shoulders for only a 20 game player.

i thought O'Keefe was unlucky last year. Hes better than Jarrad Waite, who should have played basketball, not footy!

What did it say about me in the carlton magazine? I didnt see it?

I would trade Mark Mcgough at the first opportunity. He has but one skill - sure hands in heavy traffic - and that is not enough in modern football. He cannot kick, run fast, play attack or defence, and he is not a particularly strong mark.

Greg Williams was in in a million. Mark McGough is not within a country mile of Greg Williams (except a better temperament).
I have to disagree.
While McGough is a mile from Williams at this stage the kid played senior football and got a BOG following a two brownlow vote game in his first two games before he was allowed to get a licence. He has some flaws for sure but so did Carey at 17. I doubt he will ever be a great kick and he will never be pacey. Remamber Tony Shaw. Couldn't run, couldn't kick, couldn't mark. Had one skill. A footy brain which allowed him to get the footy and use it within his capabilities. That is what I see in McGough. In this age of athletes a footballer can still be a great player. To say he cannot attack or defend is a little harsh. At 17 he just went and got a kick from game one. I can't honestly see what more a 17 with his body type could possibly have done. Sure he got beated as a defender against Freo but he was a 17 year old with a couple of games under his belt. How would Buckley ahve gone in that game at 17? He'll probably play 50 games before the age of 21 when his peers will be getting regular starting gigs with 20 bit part games under their belts.

I see him a lot like I do Cloke. They have similar limitations but similar strengths. They may not improve as much as some others and may never be seen as superstars but the reality is if they improve just a little in 2003 they will have an impact. They have already had one in 2002 and to imagine zero improvement in these kids is a little difficult. Second year blues is always a possibility but MM has been pretty good at managing that to date. Given they rely on reading the play as opposed to athletic ability they could easilyl play well past 30 years of age.

IMO these 2 with Lonnie and Didak represent near certainties for significant imporvement and real impact in 2003. Cole is a maybe at this stage. Davidson is a maybe and this crop of draftess are unknown quantities. The good thing is that if noone improves at al we have a more effective outfit than we started 2002 with. Just add Woewodin and a little development of the aforementioned and we can start talking premierships in March like we used to.

Chasing Crawford up the MCG wing?
If you actually look at it like I did at the time you'l see Crawford didn't get away from him to any great extent until he got a shepard. Granted he was never going to actually make any ground in any event. There are planty of blokes who have not caught Crawford though. I would not think that is really being exposed. He didn't get caught much which I think is more the issue. Most first year players, even the quick ones, get caught regularly until they find their feet and th pace of AFL. McGough looks like he knows he isn't quick and doesn't try to be. Compare him to a guy like Damian Adkins, who I am a wrap for, but gets caught despite his great pace and flair.

3. Guy Richards (Collingwood)
A bit too adventurous unfortunately. I hope you are right and I am wrong but I can't see him having an impact in 2003 despite the clear need for a ruckman. He will get a run pre season but IMO he is not ready. I fear he may never be.

Crawford was cruising and doing it easily was my take on things, though in honesty it's no disgrace for that to happen, Crawford being one of the best 400-800m runners in the comp, he was "exposed" as being slower than Crawford ;)

I'd like to see Kent Kingsley have a repeat, at least, of his goal-scoring output last year, but I can't help but think that the Cats need a bit more production on the front line.

On that note, Steve Johnson had a pretty good 2002, and here's hoping that this talented young player takes the next step in '03.

Cheers,
William

Ah yes, i remember the time when Libba caught S. Rocca and swung him to the ground.

Ah that was a funny moment...

That was off the topic a bit, but I just thought i'd mention it.

Just mentioned your name under trainers in the 2002 staff credits.

The week before the drubbing huh? Coincidence? I think not. ;)

fair enough. He was one of 22 blokes who couldn't catch Crawford that night. Actually he was one of 22 who couldn't catch a cold that night. McGough actually got votes that game FWIW.

I recall that. It was inspriational stuff from the big bloke. Anyway, 1 is not many, is it?;)

If Gough really wants to be adventurous  , he could have named Flyin' Ryan Lonie as a "player to watch". One gets the feeling that he might one day be a fairly good player. We live in hope...

FWIW, I will be watching the progress of every single junior burger that sets foot on the senior stage. Some will meet their expectations, some will not, but at the end of the day, so long as all the Collingwood players meet their expectations, the world will be a better place.

An easy task this year, as there is only one true Junior Burger. In a few years, though, you'll have your eyes full-- a few more coming down the pike, I understand.
