None really. I feel like most of the undeniable flagless champions of the game have recently retired. Mundy, N.Jones and Betts probably foremost.

Maybe the likes of Callan Ward/Phil Davis, Daniel Rich, David Swallow/Jarrod Harbrow, etc. for sticking with their northern clubs through darker times (and in some cases, injuries). I naturally pull for the NSW/QLD clubs to do well, so I'd be keen for the above. Andrew Swallow never getting one might enhance the David Swallow option. Rischitelli is still listed after debuting for Brisbane in 2004, just one finals win to his name.

Robbie Gray and Marc Murphy are players I'd like to see win one, feel like their careers have been through it all.

Harry Cunningham has been playing at the Swans since 2012 without a flag. Rampe became a regular in 2013. Rohan had a season-ender in early 2012. Cameron Guthrie debuted in Rnd1 2011 from memory. They are the tragics for now.

Not dangerfield.

Picking outside of my own team, I would like to see fyfe get one. Super professional, dedicated, sets a great example, and buys into the coaches method. Great leader.

Although I don't think he is the player he was on field. I think he's a long way off his best, for whatever reason.

Always liked Nick Riewoldt and even more so hearing his stories of his playing days, so close a couple of times.

Back in the day when the Pies regularly made and lost GFs, I would have liked to see big Len, Billy P and Twiggy get a flag.

I'm working on a time travel theory where I can change the result of that game, hopefully I'll be able to remove your disappointment. My other aim is to change that Steven Milne bounce, have it sit up perfectly for him and then have him miss the simple goal - same result but even more enjoyable.

You can't change the present by going back to the past.
This is not your Hot Tub Time Machine sort of time travel.

Stephen Hill.
Toiled away relentlessly for years then his upstart younger brother gets drafted to Hawthorn on the back of his efforts and wins three of the bloody things.

I’m surprised so many say Kade Simpson and not Marc Murphy.

Simpson has been a solid servant but he isn’t much of a club man. He’s not great with fans, not much of a leader for the younger blokes, just a good solid footballer on a struggling team for a long time. Not a criticism, that’s just his personality. Has been a good servant of the club, not more or less than that.

Murphy has given so much to Carlton. Remember, he chose Carlton over going father/son to Brisbane. Then, when things got tough and others left for greener pastures, including his best mate Gibbs, he stuck around, when no one would have begrudged him going. His body has been shot to pieces playing an inside midfielder role, has suffered through some pretty nasty injuries, still fronts up week after week. Captained the club in its darkest hour, and to be honest, helped provide some pretty important leadership through literally the worst on field stretch in 100 years. He’s a good clubman, does the media and clinics despite not relishing it, has always represented the club well.

For some reason Simpson is loved by opposition supporters while Murphy is a whipping boy of sorts. I reckon if any Carlton player deserves one it’s Murphy...

From other teams - Fyfe, Betts, maybe Dangerfield, and I dunno how but half that St Kilda team that got close (Riewoldt, Kosi, Dal Santo, Montagna, etc)

That's mainly because Murphy has shown time after time that when it's his turn to go he always pulls out, not the kind of action to win you over opposition fans.

All I’ll say is that perception is an interesting thing. Obviously you don’t like Carlton and Murphy is the whipping boy. I’m probably not going to be able to change your view (which even allowing for hyperbole seems unfair)

I’d probably ask more why is Simpson so loved? There isn’t a lot of difference between Kade Simpson and Brendon Goddard in terms of traits, Goddard (whose 2010 grand final heroics get totally forgotten) became a whipping boy too, while Simpson is on everyone’s list.

Just strange how different people get perceived imo
