Good weekend of the opening round for NAB League, my notes on Dande v Eastern and Sandy v Oakleigh will be up on rookiemecentral later in the week (will post here too), but of the other games I managed to see snippets of I was really impressed with Jason Gillbee (Bendigo), Aaron Cadman (GWV) and Darcy Edmends (Northern). Cadman in particular looked really improved from last season with a move from the wing to be the focal point of the Rebels attack. Gillbee was mostly a winger last year but looked comfortable woth his inside switch and Edmends didn't waste a kick on the wing
I was all set to head down to watch Sandy vs Oakleigh yesterday, but last minute couldn't go!
I know games are being live streamed but are they doing replays?

The girls had replays this season, so fingers crossed

How long will Alwyn junior be out for? Any guesses?
I don't know what he did tbh, but he was sporting shoulder tape all game and looked a little gassed towards the end of the game, anything you noted eDPS?

Only seen a very small amount of Jefferson, but I'm getting 'soft' vibes from him....
Did you watch the whole game yesterday? Put in some impressive efforts for a tall forward on a shitty day

He told me he did his shoulder in the warmup haha. Surprised he played.

Reckon there's some mayo there, if it was properly dislocated I doubt he would been played, at a guess he's subluxed it which you can generally play through, but can sometimes keep you out for a month if you get some complications

Watched three quarters of it.

I'll defer to you on this one as you would have seen more of him than me, but I have a tiny little question mark on him.
Watched the game yesterday and also last week’s practice match against Calder. I’m with you RanaNaved, but my question mark is bigger and in bold. For a kid who’s selected in the AFL national academy, we need a lot more output than what he’s shown. Hopefully he can turn things around in the coming weeks

If you google search for them you can sometimes find the replay available, even behind the paywall. Doesn’t seem to have them all there though.

For example.

I did a quick google but yeah couldn't see it yet, hoping like PMbanger said it will be up later in the week. As I can see the girls games are up.

Will be good to get your views on both games. Didn’t attend the Dandy vs Eastern game but was there on Sunday for the much anticipated battle between Sandy and Oakleigh. It was a great game in tough conditions. Oakleigh showed their class throughout the contest…they have a lot of talent in their squad. Oakleigh will be hard to beat this season.
For Sandy, I thought Ashcroft battled hard all day, going head to head with Wardlaw..won some good clearances and followed up. Sheezel up forward presented well but it was a tough day for marking forwards…worked hard and ended the day with 1 goal 2 behinds. Benton (top ager) was also good, really competed well at the stoppages…he worked well with Ashcroft at the stoppages.
For Oakleigh, there were several good players. Wardlaw was best for them (and best on ground) in the middle and takes early honours against Ashcroft for No. 1 pick.…he was hard at it and won several clearances…he has real desire to hunt and win the footy. Tsatas on the wing was busy all day, got lots of it, but wasteful at times…..does have a real knack of finding space and creating an optio. Down back, Rule (top ager) controlled things and repelled many of Sandy‘s forward entries.…his marking in the wet was a highlight. Up forward, Dammersmith (top ager) was great, leading well...kicked 3 for the day. Drury presented well playing high and managed to slot 3 for the day….he manages to get himself in the right spots a lot of the time. Voulanas was busy all day, constantly harassing the Sandy defence..missed a couple of opportunities to goal but setup several goals with his pressure and work rate.

Apologies to Oakleigh’s Angus Curry. He was excellent in the middle, had a real hunger for the contest and like Wardlaw, won several clearances. I believe part of the GWS academy squad.

I agree Wardlaw was best on ground.

I also really like the #43 for Oakleigh Weddie, when i googled him i saw he had a good yoyo combine score so has good endurance, i agree with most of your take on the game too.

Didn’t mind Weddle’s game at all

If he is a Giants academy player, I hope to see him jump out of the ground with amazing performances, be talked about as a genuine pick 1 contender before sliding to the teens causing an uproar from Eddie about the academies that he brings up at each of Angus's three brownlow victories.
Is that optimistic?
TBH, I was under the impression that we didnt have a lot in this years academy class, but next year was looking promising.

Not sure there'll be many differing thoughts tbh, Oakleigh were comprehensive in the win and the midfield dominance reflects in my views/ notes. I wasn't as impressed with Dammersmith as I expect most others were, the 3 goals were good and obviously impactful but didn't notice him outside of those passages which I don't think cuts the mustard, especially as an overager. Ashcroft was a bit weird, watching the game live I expected he would've had maybe 12 touches, he just didn't seem to find the space he usually gets when he had it, mostly due to Oakleigh's tackling pressure but with his athleticism there wasn't a reason he shouldn't have adjusted. My notes will be on rookiemecentral tomorrow regardless, doubt there'll be any surprises for the ones that caught the eye.

I've been talking up Curry and Lawrence for months smh

That's only for the Herald Sun stream games unfortunately, they only do the one a week and are focusing on covering all the Northern Academy sides and NT in the early parts of the season

If you could compare Waldlaw to a current AFL player who would that be? Every chance we will have the number 1 pick again.
