The old media will need to get more and more extreme in order to get noticed.

Be prepared for much worse over the next decade.

Most likely, but if the problem (in this case, incarceration rates in the NT) is going to be turned into a race issue then you can hardly be surprised if the causes are going to be as well.

Yep. Typical right wing racist claiming victimhood.

He's a pathetic sook.
Apparently Aboriginal fathers not knowing their kids' names is "the truth".

I think the use of the Twitter bird is interesting, I sense that social media, and greater access to information via the internet unsettles those who formerly controlled how the information was disseminated, and rather trying to work with the new mediums, they seek to discredit it. Talk to most conservatives, and you'll find they are very dismissive of social media.

He presents a false racial stereotype as the truth?
Firstly, you're referring to the wrong cartoon. The cartoon being discussed is the one where Leak is being castigated by an online social justice warrior for having an opinion. Just like many of us are treated on here. We speak the truth which people don't like and their response is to label you a racist, bigot, ban you, etc rather than to discuss it like adults.

Secondly, in reference to that first cartoon, it is a stereotype but it is also accurate. The truth hurts sometimes. Do you not admit that there are significant issues, like those identified in the cartoon, within the Aboriginal community? Sweeping it under the carpet for the last 100 years hasn't worked. We need to acknowledge the problem in order to correct it. What is your solution? Let me guess. Your solution is to throw welfare money at the Koori community in order to appease them? That's worked very well so far hasn't it?

In fact it's not just an Aboriginal problem. It's a problem with many people from all backgrounds who are reliant on welfare. The people who can least afford it are encouraged to have lots of children because of the supplemented income despite not having parenting skills. The children are neglected and they grow up like the parents and then they have children. It's a never ending cycle which needs to by broken by making tough decisions.

Previous Liberal Governments have tried to solve this by limiting welfare and improving the funding for education programs. Labor gets in and they undo this and we are back to the same situation again. Labor and the Greens are reliant on the votes of the poor so the more poor people there are the more votes they get. They're never going to offer a solution.

Instead of giving me the usual response of racist, bigot, blah, blah. How about telling me what your solution to this problem is?

This is a master class in right wing victimhood.

If you don't want racist statements called out as racist, stop making racist statements.

Aside from demonising Indigenous people, what is your solution?

I wouldn't say that about social media generally, but a lot of conservatives tend to be dismissive of twitter. And to the contrary, a lot of people on the left tend to inflate the importance of twitter. If they can get a hashtag trending (which really isn't all that difficult) then suddenly people pretend it's what mainstream Australia is thinking. When in reality it may well just be a few dozen members of the socialist alternative getting together.

The problem with most social media is that the people on it tend to only follow people and topics that they are interested in and/or causes they support. Which gives you a distorted view of what the world actually thinks.

I am referring to both cartoons as a package.

In the first cartoon he is presenting a false racial stereotype (ie aboriginal fathers don't know their sons names).

In the second cartoon he is presenting that stereotype as the truth.

What's truthful about aboriginal fathers not knowing their sons' names?

Bill Leak has spoken out over backlash caused by his controversial cartoon earlier this week.

In response to being called a racist he says 'there is no greater racist than the anti-racist, because they see everything through a prism of race'.
