I could live with Freeman at #10 but please not at #6. Salem I'd be rapt with at #10, as I would Bontempelli.

Still hoping for one of Aish/Scharenberg/Billings at #6.

An interest in Freeman could have been another reason to move up the draft order. He won't get past Dees at 9 so 10 wouldn't have cut it.

I could deal with Salem at 10. On the shortish side but is a competitive beast with a lethal left foot.

Still want Aish or Bontempelli (in that order) at 6.

Looking at all the videos he and Taylor were the ones that had star written all over them for me, they are just so better balanced than the others.. but one is slow and the other is a midget :(

Lol Sheed is medium paced not slow, that was blown way out of proportion.

Beautiful kick and great balance can get it good in the contest and outside as well, just a well rounded player has a bit of Luke Hodge's about him imo.

Salem's 185cm, so taller than Freeman and Aish.

Right. I could've sworn Salem was sub 6 foot. He looks short and compact in his highlights. Deceptive.

Might mean we go taller (Bontempelli) at 6. Not sure I'm that keen on two 6 foot mids after getting another six footer in Adams in already.

I must admit to being the only person on the board not blown away by Bontempelli's highlight reel. Having said that, it wasn't awful either, and having a guy who can move like that at now 194cm is obviously very appealing. I'd be keen to see how his disposal rates, and whether we think he can put the necessary weight on, because at that height he could play nearly anywhere on the ground.

I think with Bontempelli it is more of what he could become as opposed to what we can see now. In saying that what we can see now isn't horrible; far from it. Dal Santo's cousin too so the bloodlines are good too.

Just ticks a lot of boxes, seems to have some good tools (tall, agile , nice disposal, versatile and composed) and is very young in this draft crop (Hine's likes picking these). Think I still prefer Aish at 6 but would be rapt with Bontempelli at 10 if he got that far.

This means four fifth's of f@ck all.

Who was Pendles cousin brother of? who was Dal cousin of?

Your either a good player or not.

HSun (Jay Clark & Sam Landsberger) have just posted a top 20 phantom based on what they have been hearing from clubs. ie: what they have been reading on Big Footy!

They have us taking Bontempelli at 6 over Scharenberg who went to Brisbane at 7. They then have us taking Lennon at 10 over Salem who reached Richmond at 12.

Father son rule would be pointless if talent, speed & strength weren't hereditary and passed on genetically o_O

Obviously genetics can pass down traits and physical similarities but my point still stands they are a minority and not a guarantee of anything.

Conversely some players who became guns were from parents who didn't have an athletic bone in their body.

I think you'll find those numbers you keep relying on actually prove the opposite of your argument.. out of a population of millions there are many many examples of brothers cousins sons grandsons etc playing at the highest level.. far more than random distribution would predict.. and mathematics isn't an opinion.. it's brute fact o_O

Being the son of or brother of DOES not guarantee you anything.

This is not to say there are NO players who don't get passed down genetic traits or the work ethic/commitment to make it.

The point i was making is being the sun of gun doesn't guarantee anything.

Also I think you will find most players don't have a direct relative that played at the highest level, probably more likely to have played to high standard at a local club however or in a 2nd teir comp.

I vaguely remember watching pre-draft highlights of Scott Pendlebury and thinking the same thing. That pick was regarded as a reach. He looked composed with the footy, but slow and didn't show anything that really seemed to stand out. It's all about scope for improvement, and someone like Bontempelli has a lot more than other far more polished and physically well rounded players at the top of the draft. That of course doesn't mean he reaches it, which is where the risk is.

Incidentally those worried about the curse of pick 6 need not worry as Martin and Hogan provide a technical loophole, it's actually pick 8 o_O

ps: Bontempelli is a fake out to go after Freeman at 6 ;)

I think by the time we're talking about cousins, the correlation would likely be so weak as to be statistically insignificant.

Sons and brothers might well be significant.

That's how I justified fooling around with my cousin.. but blood lines will always give a statistical edge no matter how small o_O
