Hinkley talks about how big a role the captaincy is and how both Rockliff and Boak said that having someone to share the load with them would have made them better leaders.

That just tells me that both were shit leaders, honestly.

And that picture is in front of Hart’s Mill. That’s telling the true story. We all know that if Hartlett was fit all year last year none of this shit would be happening.

It’s simply grasping at straws to try and justify what they have done.

FWIW both Boak and Rockliff did have someone to share the load. It’s called a Vice Captain.

And the photo is of heritage wool stores traditional Port hmmmm....

Good that we are trying to use the us v them thing that we have done successfully in the past but this time its the club v the fans.

We the fans made never tear us apart successful and I guess we have another reason to sing it long after the current custodians are gone.

Press release had me until it talked about winning being more important like we are idiots that don't football.

If the current custodians (as they now are to me) had a track record of recent wins or even fighting the good public fight ( re Guernsey, snafl, afl, media bias, player movements, social media, contracts club and player standards etc etc) then they might have the gravitas to get something like this through.

So many opportunities recently to be honest and upfront with the fans (and not just on this issue) so many failures.

Gonna be hard to walk this back if it isn't succesful.

Might be a case of

Port Adelaide always was never will be (again)

Just another weak decision by the so called leaders of a once proud club, who appear to have zero understanding of what makes the difference between being a real footy club and just another franchise.

Our tv `star ' president can stick this :poo: where the sun don't shine!

I still don't see how having one captain is a tradition. Even if it were, it's not uniquely Port Adelaide.

Number 1 yes but that's not 149 years old.

No other AFL Club has had one Captain for 149 years and that makes us unique. Once you break with tradition that is it- it is gone and you cannot return next year and pick up where you left off. We pride ourselves in being different from the rest but this decision simply makes us like the rest.

Next year we will celebrate 150 years and we will get the likes of Koch and Thomas telling us about our heritage and tradition. This will be the same Koch and Thomas who twelve months earlier presided over the breaking of a 149 year tradition. I see a touch of hypocrisy in that.

I actually rang the Club to voice my concerns and was given, 'it was what the players and the Coaches wanted'. I could not restrain myself and said, 'so it is now the players, not the Board, who are running the Club?' Obviously I have been left behind as I thought the players did as the Board directed. I was also given the, 'Co Captains means success' line and when I asked how they worked that out again I got the, 'it was what the players and Coaches wanted line'.

Registering a protest at this decision will not change anything but at least I let them know how I feel in a civilised manner. I have to add that the young lady who returned my call was extremely polite but I got feeling that my call was not the only one she had fielded during the day and that she had some sympathy for my stance.

I understand that. But is it worth keeping that to be behind the 17 other clubs in a reserves comp, therefore our senior side being behind the rest?
If you strip everything away that makes Port Adelaide unique, then we are not a real football club.

We might as well be one of those AFLX sides or a big bash team.

Are we still not Port Adelaide? We weren't ever going to be able to wear the prison bars in the AFL, we all knew that from day dot. Nor the black and white. That was just the way it is in the AFL, was part of the original conditions for us coming into the AFL wasn't it?

And do you keep tradition at the cost of the football side? Nearly all will say no. End of the day, we are still Port Adelaide, we can't keep traditions at the detriment of the football side.

PS- This is about the black and white being used or not used in the AFL reserves comp that will come in.

..or even worse, 'the crows'..

Plenty of football clubs have only ever had one captain. You can't use AFL only because we haven't been in the league for 149 years.

You only have to look at the Hodge & Mitchell model to know thats not really true
Mitchell and Hodge were never co-captains. Mitchell was captain 2008-10 and then Hodge took over for 6 years.
