Port Adelaide's plan to use jumpers similar to Collingwood

I'm looking at it as WA boy who loved the game & was interested enough to look at its history nationally & became aware of the most successful club in Australia. That was the 50s, iconic yep !

Check out Denis Commetti's comments:

"But I will always remember the Port Adelaide jumper."

Cometti was spellbound. Not by a grand assembly of future All-Australians and Hall of Famers from two proud portside football clubs ... but a guernsey.

Saturday's with Rucci: Port's best of the west (portadelaidefc.com.au)

"I was eight, saw East Fremantle run onto Subiaco Oval (the weekend after the "Sharks" beat East Perth for the WANFL premiership) in their blue-and-white hoops," added Cometti.

"And then Port Adelaide. I'd never seen a jumper like Port Adelaide's - and I never forgot it. It was the most-imposing football jumper I had seen. It is the best football jumper I have seen."

Those black-and-white bars made such a strong first impression on Cometti that he secured a Port Adelaide guernsey to wear in training during his 38 league games with WAFL club West Perth from 1967-1971 (before the move to Melbourne to spin discs for 3DB and to seek a VFL career with Footscray).

The Port Adelaide jumper also has a significant display point at Cometti's Perth home, in his gym. And this detail might just explain Cometti's enthusiastic remarks before the start of the 2014 AFL elimination final between Port Adelaide and Richmond at Adelaide Oval where - despite its higher ranking - Port Adelaide was forced out of its black V home guernsey by the AFL to avoid a clash with the travelling yellow-and-black Tigers.

"Got to say as a West Australian, I've always regarded that strip that Port Adelaide are wearing today as the best uniform in Australian football."

It’s a great strip, no doubt.
But it’s a SANFL strip, not an AFL strip.

How awesome it looks, nor how rock hard Cometti got when he saw it doesn’t change that.

You seriously don't think there are Port supporters in the legal profession who wouldn't take this on pro bono? Money is not the issue, it is the retribution that would follow from the AFL for going outside of its system in challenging its internal ruling in a Court of law.
Well... why havent they done it then?.. if its so simple, its not gonna cost them anything and they will, according to you, most definately win..

why havent they done it!..

That could be the reason, sure....

Another possible reason why no port fan lawyer have risked their legal reputation on this is that it’s un-winnable, and they know it.

Pro Bono does mean free, yes, but lawyers have their reasons for doing pro Bono work, usually to boost their experience credibility and /or reputations.

This wouldn’t be that case, and they know it.

If they were trying to wear a navy blue jumper with a white port logo on it you’d be squealing like a pig
No I wouldn't. I wouldn't care.

What's the issue if they wear the guernsey?

Not exactly rolling in $pondoola ... I'd donate to their costs if they gave that Melbourne based hierarchy a rocket.

Where are the Commission when the admin are so inadequate?

In my experience, NO matter is "un-winnable". The club would obviously need to engage someone to go down that path. It has chosen not to at this point, because they are aware that most sporting organisations take a dim view of their member clubs going outside of its internal procedures to get the Courts involved with their internal decisions. It may get to the point though where the continual disrespect of our club and its heritage simply becomes more intolerable than it already is and they choose to go down this path.

Likewise. Couldn't give a toss if another club adopted the hooped guernsey for 2 or 3 games per year just as long as they were not identical. In Port Adelaide's case, the guernsey's are fairly different.

I think a bigger concern is the Magpie emblem. That links the two together.

Port simply want to have their history respected and be able to honour that by wearing the jumper we’ve worn since 1902 and won a record number of premierships in.

The AFL knew exactly what our jumper was and what our history was when we were invited to join the national competition.

Its funny how quickly Collingwood have forgotten what their then president said. “If Port Adelaide finish about Collingwood for 3 consecutive years we will remove our objection to them wearing the prison bars”

FYI - Port did that in 3 years, on this basis Collingwood should have no objection to ok this any longer.... It’s funny how quickly Eddie picks when comments matter.

If Port are unhappy with the conditions in the contract they signed on entering the AFL they can always hand in the Licence. I'm sure Tasmanina would gladly take it off their hands and would have no problem coming up with a jumper that won't clash with any other team.
It was more like a gun to head negotiations.

Agree or not play.

Their never has been or will be a desire to put the Port Magpies logo on any jumper worn at AFL level by PAFC.

Worn prison bars for only slightly more than half of their existence.

Not according to this

What continual disrespect has there been ffs?.. Youre just making that up..

all you have been told is that you cannot wear the port adelaide sanfl jumper. How is that disrespectful?.

the port adelaide power when they entered the comp signed up to an agreement stating that they wouldnt wear or sell the PB’s jumper because it was deemed to be too close to collingwoods jumper.. thats what your club agreed to.

If anything.. the only ones being disrespectful here are port adelaide by trying to reneg on the agreements they themselves signed up to..

This is the Port Store tonight.

Because of the AFL and Collingwood's intransigence we are forced to sell PB jumpers with the Magpie logo on it. We can do that because that logo is not licenced to the AFL. I suspect that the AFL might not make any money out of the sale of these particular jumpers. If they could come to a new agreement with us on use and retailing of the PBs, we could sell these with our new PA monogram club logo which would surely help to alleviate any of the so-called confusion that the likes of Eddie McGuire claims to exist and also see the AFL receive a cut.
