Port requests for Gold Coast to change home guernsey

Yeah, I really doubt this is a real issue. You can't deny this is raising the interest levels of opposition supporters. Bad publicity is good publicity for a reason.
People already know about the game. Koch is just putting people offside which isn't doing anyone any favours. Not all publicity is good, that's what people who get a lot of bad publicity say.

Let's just see if we can summarize this shall we?

- Koch attempts to negotiate a deal with Chinese backers to play in China
- AFL duly informs Koch that Port's home games MUST be played at Adelaide Oval due to contractual obligations
- Koch negotiates with Gold Coast to move their home game to Shanghai
- Koch is is apparently unaware that the Chinese flag is red and gold, or is unaware that Gold Coast wear red and gold
- Koch tells Gold Coast that he 'bought' their home game, so they have to wear their away strip
- Gold Coast says, "u ruddy wot m8?", and tells Koch they negotiated to MOVE their home game, not sell it
- Koch says they have an agreement
- Gold Coast says it must be written in invisible ink and be kept by the tooth fairy
- Koch tells Gold Coast he'll change their fixture next year
- AFL says "thx mete, we'll take care of the fixture"
- Koch cries
- BigFooty laughs
- Port fans get upset

That about cover it?
Take it to the Bay.

I do find the commentary on here about how the whole China business came about quite funny.
Watching posters write so much about who did what, with no inkling or idea about what has happened the last 3 years to get to this point.
Hint. Port Adelaide did not just "rock up".

No, no - please don't be mistaken.

I'm well aware that Port actively pursued and cultivated (with some help granted) their Chinese partners. Have never disputed that, nor will I.

I am also aware however, that Koch made an ass of himself during the final stages of negotiations and still is making an ass of himself with these false bravado statements.

Now thankfully, it actually appears based on commentary most Port fans get this, and want him to shut up just as much as we want to stop hearing from him.

Lighten up sunshine.

The post was accurate, and a bit of humour doesn't hurt anyone.

Or does it?
Post was inaccurate in a few areas (as if we don't know our deal with AO!). And trolling in a few more. All for humour but that wasn't it. Anyways its mostly harmless, I guess.

This comes from the nutjob conspiracy side of things, but could Port conjure up a "limited edition / commemorative / something" one-off jumper that was mostly red for no other reason than to piss GC off? If they did, would GC then have to change their jumper? I'm guessing (and really hoping) not as it is their home game, but just thought I'd put it out there.

The AFL would have to sign off on it.

(Hint: They wouldn't)

Will be watching with interest when GC take a number of home games to China in the future and Port cant take their own home games there and cant find anyone to buy a home game off, who will the Power play? Norwood!

GC may play WB, GWS whoever and those teams want even need to sell or lose a home game to do so and probably still get paid the bucks to play there

You clearly have no understanding of our history. We have always thrived on being hated! Why? Because we have always taken chances, our very existence in the AFL as the only non Vic 'Club' is testimony to that, that it is us creating this game is further testimony.
We are the black sheep of the code and always have been. The Crows are the 'establishment'.
Yawn.

Publicity is publicity. The more people read about the game the more likely they are to watch it. It's free advertising

Pretty simple scenario really: AFL and footy supporters in general see the China game as a way to promote AFL footy. Kochy sees it as a way of promoting the Port Adelaide Football club. He was so excited by it that he over looked what seems obvious to anyone aware of Chinese culture - the significance of particular colours. Now that he's been hit on the head with the cultural hammer maybe he'll organise a one off jumper number change - 8, 88, 888, 8888, ...... 8888888888888888888888?

The first sentence is just a vague fact, of course publicity, is in fact, publicity.
The second is a statement with no backing, you don't need to create crap controversy to sell a game, a first year marketing student would be able to recognise how garbage that is.
Maybe port should get half its playing list suspended. I mean publicity is publicity. It worked out for essendon

This is pretty funny. It's not Gold Coast's fault Port didnt think about this earlier i hope they stick to their guns.

That's exactly it, GC made no agreement to what strip they'd wear - if they did, Koch would've shown it by now. Why would they wear their clash strip if they don't have too?

Is that like talk to the hand? It seems dismissive based on peoples reactions but I'd love to know the origins/meaning behind it

It means "take it to bay 13" - the designated troll forum on bigfooty.
